Indian Wells Tennis Garden (Stadium 1)Seating Guide: Where to Sit & Best Seats

Stadium 1 is the principal show court at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and, with a capacity of approximately 16,100, is one of the largest tennis-specific stadiums in the world (second only to Arthur Ashe Stadium). Seating rises from courtside outward and upward, with the lower bowl divided into Front Row Boxes, Premium Courtside Boxes, Courtside Boxes and Stadium Boxes (all sold by row, AA at the front through to V), then Prime Loge and Loge seating, an air-conditioned suite ring on the 200 and 300 levels, and a Grandstand/upper level at the very top. The best overall views are the lower box rows closest to the court, particularly behind the baselines for tennis; the best value sits in the upper rows of the lower level and the Loge, which also catch shade earlier in the day. Because most of the bowl is uncovered, shade exposure is a major consideration when choosing seats at this desert venue.

Configurations

Tennis — BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells Masters)

The venue's primary use. Stadium 1 hosts the marquee day and night sessions of the combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tournament each March. The full lower-bowl box, Loge and suite configuration is in use; a Stadium 1 ticket also grants general-admission access to the outer courts (Stadiums 3–9).

Tennis — other day/night sessions and exhibitions

Outside the main draw, Stadium 1 is used for qualifying days, exhibition matches and special tennis events. Lower sections may be sold first and the upper level/Grandstand kept closed for smaller crowds.

Concerts and special events (occasional)

The stadium occasionally hosts concerts and other large outdoor events using an end-stage layout. In this mode the court area is replaced by a stage and floor seating, and sightlines and the best sections differ from the tennis configuration; always check the event-specific map.

Seating levels explained

Courtside Boxes (Front Box / Premium Courtside / Courtside / Stadium Box)

Rows AA–V (Front Row Boxes AA–BB, Premium Courtside CC–H, Courtside Box I–R, Stadium Box S–V)

The premium lower-bowl seating closest to the court, sold by row band. Front Row Boxes (rows AA–BB) sit right on the court and include access to the Front Box Club; Premium Courtside (CC–H), Courtside (I–R) and Stadium Box (S–V) step back from there.

Pros: Closest proximity to the players; the most immersive tennis atmosphere; Front Row Boxes include Front Box Club access.

Cons: The most expensive seats; lower front rows are exposed to direct sun for much of the day; very low rows can have a flatter sightline across the far baseline.

Prime Loge / Loge

Prime Loge rows A–K; Loge rows L and higher

Elevated reserved seating above the box levels, offering a raised, panoramic view of the whole court. Prime Loge occupies the lower Loge rows; standard Loge runs from row L upward.

Pros: Excellent overall sightlines of the full court; better value than courtside boxes; upper rows catch shade earlier in the day.

Cons: Further from the action than the boxes; lower Loge rows can still be in the sun during peak hours.

Suites

Suite ring on the 200 and 300 levels (e.g. suites around 304 and 321)

Around 44 private luxury suites set in a ring on the 200 and 300 levels, offering air-conditioned, shaded hospitality with private seating overlooking the court.

Pros: Shaded and air-conditioned even during peak sun; private hospitality; consistent comfort; among the only reliably shaded seats around midday.

Cons: Premium pricing, generally sold by quote/package; set back and elevated, so less of a courtside feel than the boxes.

Grandstand / Upper Level

Upper-level sections (e.g. 200-series such as 203–217); Grandstand in the very top rows

The highest reserved seating in the stadium, set above the Loge in the upper deck, with the Grandstand occupying the topmost rows.

Pros: The most economical reserved tickets; full view of the court; top rows on the south and west sides fall into shade earlier in the afternoon.

Cons: Furthest from the court; players appear small; steepest climb and most exposed to sun and wind earlier in the day.

ForSectionsWhy
Best overall view (tennis)Premium Courtside and Courtside Boxes (roughly rows CC–R) behind the baseline endsSeats square to the baseline at the ends give the classic broadcast-style view down the length of the court, ideal for following rallies and serve speed, while staying close to the players.
Best valueUpper rows of the lower level and the Loge (rows L and higher) on the south or west sideThese rows offer clear full-court sightlines at a fraction of courtside box prices, and they fall into shade earlier than the front rows — a notable comfort gain at this desert venue.
Best atmosphereFront Row and Premium Courtside Boxes (rows AA–H)Right on the court, you hear the ball strike and player calls and sit among the most engaged crowd; Front Row Boxes add Front Box Club access for a full premium experience.
Best for sun avoidance / shadeSuites on the 200 and 300 levels, or the top rows of sections 108–118 (south side) and 126–135 (west side)The suites are air-conditioned and shaded throughout the day. Among open seats, the top rows of the south-side sections shade from late morning, and the west-side sections from mid-afternoon with the sun behind you.
Best for a serve-line / behind-the-server angleLower box rows positioned behind the baseline (request 'behind the server' at checkout where offered)Sitting behind the baseline lets you judge serve placement and depth; the venue allows seat-location requests such as 'behind the server' or 'in the shade' during online checkout, subject to availability.
Best budget reserved for a full sessionLoge upper rows and the upper-level/Grandstand on the shaded sideFor day-long sessions, an upper shaded reserved seat keeps you comfortable across multiple matches at the lowest reserved price, and a Stadium 1 ticket also opens up the outer courts.

Seats to avoid & obstructed views

  • Lowest front rows of the courtside boxes (around rows AA–CC) at peak sun: Fully exposed to direct desert sun for most of the day; very low rows also give a flatter sightline across the far side of the court.
  • Highest rows of the upper level / Grandstand: Furthest from the court so players appear small; steepest climb and most exposed to sun and wind until shade arrives later in the day.
  • Corner sections of the lower bowl (where the bowl curves at the ends): Angled rather than square-on views can make it harder to judge line calls and follow cross-court play compared with seats centred on the court.
  • Sun-side sections during midday play: Around the hour before and after the sun's peak, almost no open seating is shaded — only the 200/300-level suites stay shaded, so non-suite sun-side seats can be uncomfortably hot.

Premium & hospitality

Front Box Club

Premium club access included with Front Row Boxes (rows AA–BB), the most exclusive courtside seating in Stadium 1, combining on-court seats with a dedicated club space.

Luxury Suites (200 & 300 levels)

Around 44 private suites offering air-conditioned, shaded hospitality with private seating overlooking the court — among the only reliably shaded seats at midday. Generally sold as packages or by quote.

Courtside hospitality / box packages

Premium Courtside and Courtside Box tickets provide the closest non-suite hospitality experience; packages and hospitality add-ons are offered through the tournament and official partners.

Accessibility & companion seating

The Indian Wells Tennis Garden is fully ADA accessible, with ramps and elevators throughout the grounds and accessible restrooms, parking and concessions. Wheelchair-accessible seating is available in Stadium 1 (as well as Stadiums 2 and 3) as reserved seating, with guaranteed unobstructed views; an adjacent companion seat may usually be purchased, subject to availability.

Where: Wheelchair-accessible and companion seating is offered across multiple levels of Stadium 1 rather than a single block. Accessible parking for guests with an ADA placard is on the north side via Gate 9 (Warner Trail), and wheelchair-using guests are directed to the WC Parking Lot via Gate 1 (southbound Washington Street). Accessible tickets are best arranged through the official box office (1-800-999-1585) or the official ticketing channels to confirm location and companion availability.
