How do you get to IBC?

From Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS)

  • Direct trains run from Schiphol to Amsterdam RAI station, next to the convention centre, and the journey is short
  • A taxi from Schiphol to the RAI usually takes about 20 minutes outside rush hour
  • If you are staying in the city centre, trains from Schiphol run frequently to Amsterdam Centraal
  • Contactless bank cards can be used to check in and out on Dutch trains, metro and trams, so you do not need to buy a separate ticket

By train from elsewhere in Europe

  • International trains from Brussels, Paris and Germany arrive at Amsterdam Centraal, with onward metro links to the RAI
  • Some international services also stop at Schiphol, which can be convenient for hotels in the airport area
  • From Amsterdam Centraal, metro line 52 runs south to Europaplein station beside the RAI
  • Book international rail early for the week of the show, as trains on the opening day are popular with exhibitors

How do you get around during IBC?

Getting to the RAI each day

  • Metro line 52 stops at Europaplein, right by the RAI, and connects with De Pijp and the city centre
  • Amsterdam RAI station is served by trains and metro lines 50 and 51, linking the venue with Zuid, Sloterdijk and the ring
  • Tram 4 runs from the city centre through the canal belt to the RAI
  • From Zuidas hotels, the RAI is a short walk or one stop on the train
  • At IBC2026 every badge included a GVB QR code for trams, buses and the metro; check the IBC travel page to see whether the same applies in 2027

Around Amsterdam

  • Public transport works with a contactless bank card or a GVB day ticket, which suits several show days of short hops
  • Watch for cyclists: bike lanes are busy and often look like pavements to first-time visitors
  • Taxis are relatively expensive in Amsterdam; trams and the metro are usually quicker for short trips in the centre
  • September weather in Amsterdam can bring showers, so pack an umbrella or a light waterproof for walks between hotel, venue and dinner

Do you need a visa for IBC?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • The Netherlands is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries can visit Schengen for business for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa
  • Non-EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System at the border, with fingerprints and a photo taken on first entry, so allow extra time at passport control at Schiphol

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short-stay (type C) visa, applied for through Dutch embassies or their appointed visa centres
  • Applications can be lodged up to six months before travel; appointment slots fill up before major shows, so apply early
  • Exhibitors and registered visitors can usually request an invitation letter from the organiser to support the visa application

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area, issued within the last ten years
  • Your show registration confirmation, hotel booking and return travel details, which border officers may ask to see
  • If you need a visa, keep copies of your invitation letter, travel insurance and employer letter in your hand luggage

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the Dutch embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.

First time at IBC?

  • Register on the IBC site first; IBC registration and passes are handled by the organiser, and we only book your hotel
  • Plan around the opening hours: 10:30 to 18:00 on Friday, 09:30 to 18:00 on Saturday and Sunday, and 09:30 to 16:00 on Monday
  • Check which days your conference sessions fall on, as delegates often need a different stay from exhibition only visitors
  • IBC no longer runs a free airport shuttle, so take the train from Schiphol to Amsterdam RAI station instead
  • Wear comfortable shoes: the show fills many halls at the RAI and you will cover a lot of ground each day

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • IBC works with RAI Hotel Services for official event rates, and warns attendees about third parties offering rooms, so only book through sources you trust
  • Dutch VAT on hotel stays rose from 9 to 21 percent on 1 January 2026; to reclaim it, ask the hotel at check out whether it can issue a VAT invoice in your company name
  • Past attendees suggest Hoofddorp, Amstelveen or Haarlem as alternatives when central rooms are scarce
