About Carnoustie Golf Links — Championship Course
Carnoustie has staged The Open eight times since 1931 and is routinely called the most difficult course on the Championship rota, thanks to a relentless finish where the Barry Burn coils through the 17th and 18th. Golf has been played on the links since 1842, with the modern championship layout shaped by James Braid in 1926 and later fine-tuned by Martin Ebert. It is a genuine public links run by a community trust, so visitors — not just members or resort guests — can tee up on the same turf where Hogan, Watson and Molinari won their Opens. From the championship tees it stretches past 7,400 yards; visitors usually play the medal tees at a little under 6,950.

The brutal closing stretch — the par-4 17th “Island”, where the Barry Burn snakes across the fairway, and the par-4 18th “Home”, played back over the burn into town.
