100% Optical, the UK's largest optical event, returns to Hall N9 at ExCeL London from Saturday 27 February to Monday 1 March 2027. Organised with the Association of Optometrists (AOP), it brings eyewear, contact lenses, clinical technology and practice business together, with more than 250 exhibitors, over 110 hours of CPD, daily catwalk shows and the Love Eyewear Awards on the opening Saturday. The organiser cites more than 11,000 delegates from the UK and abroad, and 100% Ophthalmology runs alongside on the same pass. Because the show opens on a weekend, many optometrists, dispensing opticians and practice owners travel in on the Friday or Saturday, so weekend hotel nights near ExCeL are worth booking early. The Royal Docks, Canary Wharf, Stratford and central London near the Elizabeth line all work as bases for 100% Optical hotels. This page shows live rates near ExCeL for your dates; your delegate pass comes from the organiser and is separate from your hotel booking.

How do you get to 100% Optical?

From London airports

  • London City Airport (LCY) is the closest airport: ExCeL puts it a 15 minute walk away or a short journey by DLR, bus or taxi, with flights to more than 30 destinations across Europe
  • By DLR from London City Airport, ride to Canning Town and change to a Beckton train for Custom House (for ExCeL) or Prince Regent, according to the TfL route maps
  • From Heathrow (LHR), Elizabeth line trains to Abbey Wood run through central London and Canary Wharf to Custom House; Heathrow says four trains an hour run direct from Terminal 4 to Abbey Wood and four of the six an hour at Terminals 2 and 3 run to Abbey Wood
  • From Gatwick, Stansted, Luton or Southend, take the airport rail link into London and connect to the Elizabeth line, the Jubilee line or the DLR

By rail and road

  • The organiser puts ExCeL 10 minutes from Canary Wharf and 25 minutes from central London, and London has rail links to every major UK city
  • Elizabeth line stations such as Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon and Liverpool Street are on the Abbey Wood branch through Custom House
  • Drivers must pre-book: the organiser says anyone without a booking will not be let into the ExCeL car park, and the venue says the car park is reached only from the A13 (postcode E16 1FR)
  • The Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels are tolled, so check the TfL charges if you drive in from south of the river

How do you get around during 100% Optical?

Getting to ExCeL each day

  • The organiser says to leave the DLR at Custom House or Prince Regent, or the Elizabeth line at Custom House
  • ExCeL puts Custom House about 200 metres from the West Entrance and Prince Regent about 200 metres from the East Entrance, with the two stations about 1 km apart through the venue
  • 100% Optical is in Hall N9, so check the floor plan on arrival and allow a few minutes to walk the boulevard to the hall
  • The IFS Cloud Cable Car from North Greenwich and Uber Boat river services are the scenic options the organiser lists

Around London

  • ExCeL suggests a contactless bank card, a visitor Oyster card or a Travelcard for the best value on the Tube, DLR, Elizabeth line and buses
  • Canary Wharf is one Elizabeth line stop from Custom House and has plenty of restaurants for supplier dinners
  • From Stratford, the Jubilee line and the DLR both run to Canning Town for the Beckton branch to ExCeL
  • Late February in London is cold and often wet, and the cloakroom does not keep items overnight, so travel with a coat you can carry

Do you need a visa for 100% Optical?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • British and Irish passport holders do not need an ETA or a visa
  • Most visitors who do not need a visa, including those from Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia, need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they travel
  • An ETA costs £20 and lets you visit the UK for up to six months; apply only through GOV.UK or the official UK ETA app
  • Each person travelling needs their own ETA, including babies and children

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals who are not eligible for an ETA need a Standard Visitor visa to attend 100% Optical; check your nationality on GOV.UK
  • A Standard Visitor visa costs £135 for up to six months, and the earliest you can apply is three months before you travel
  • Registered delegates can ask the organiser for a visa invitation letter for a non refundable fee of £99 plus VAT; exhibitors and speakers get one free on request, and the organiser cannot guarantee a visa

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for your whole stay, the same one you used for your ETA or visa
  • Your 100% Optical badge or registration confirmation, the organiser's invitation letter if you used one, and your hotel booking
  • A letter from your employer or practice setting out the purpose of the trip, in case the Border Force officer asks

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements on GOV.UK before you book.

First time at 100% Optical?

  • Entry is free for optical and ophthalmic professionals and students in related fields; every registration is vetted, and commercial delegates pay a fee plus a £4 admin fee per transaction

Insider tips from repeat attendees
