Around 69,000 square metres of open air site and more than 20,000 square metres of halls cover construction machinery, commercial vehicles, building materials, timber construction, heating and energy, with a seminar and congress programme alongside. The 2026 edition drew 53,200 visitors and more than 700 exhibitors, from contractors, trades and local authorities to private home builders, and Denmark has been the fair's partner country for over 45 years. Neumünster is a compact town, so many NordBau visitors look at Kiel and Hamburg as well, both linked to the fairground by rail and by the KIELIUS airport bus. From Hamburg Airport (HAM)
- The organiser names Hamburg Airport as the international airport for NordBau
- The KIELIUS airport bus (Autokraft line 4550) runs from Hamburg Airport via Neumünster to Kiel and stops at the fairground, according to the organiser
- At Hamburg Airport the KIELIUS stop is in front of the airport building on the lower level at the Airport Plaza, between the arrival terminals; in Neumünster it stops on Rendsburger Straße level with the Holstenhallen
- The Deutschlandticket is not valid on the KIELIUS, so buy a KIELIUS ticket online or for the journey
By rail or by road
- Neumünster is an IC station on the Hamburg to Neumünster to Kiel and Flensburg line, according to the organiser

- Kiel is the other end of the rail line through Neumünster, and the KIELIUS bus links Kiel ZOB (stand C) directly with the Holstenhallen stop
- Hamburg is on the same rail line in the other direction, and the KIELIUS links Hamburg Airport directly with the Holstenhallen stop, which suits a fly in, fly out visit
- Check the KIELIUS timetable for your dates: the summer timetable runs from March to October, and stops can move for roadworks at short notice
On the showground
- Construction machinery and commercial vehicles fill the large open air site, while the halls cover tools, building materials, interior fit out, heating and energy
- Dogs are allowed on the showground but must be kept on a lead at all times, and the organiser warns about loud demonstrations and big crowds
- The Holstenhallen site is largely step free, with disabled parking close to the entrance and wheelchairs to borrow at the entrances
- Day tickets are valid for one visit only and lapse when you leave the grounds, so plan breaks on site or buy a season ticket for several days
Do you need a visa for NordBau?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly

- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
- The NordBau pages we checked do not describe a visa letter service, so exhibitors who need a supporting letter should contact the organiser at the Holstenhallen early

- NordBau 2027 is open daily from 9:00 to 17:00, and the box offices keep the same hours
- Tickets are sold at the box offices on site as well as online; children up to 14 go free with an adult, and there are reduced tickets for pupils, students and people with disabilities
- A cheaper late hour ticket is valid from 15:00 on Wednesday to Friday, handy if you arrive in Neumünster in the afternoon
- Private home builders can book a Messe-Scout: an independent architect or engineer from ARGE who guides you around relevant stands for 1.5 hours; booking is needed at least two days ahead
- Bring sturdy shoes and a waterproof layer: much of the machinery is on the open air site
Insider tips from repeat attendees
- Exhibitors should note the organiser's fraud warning: forms for 'FAIR Guide', 'Expo Guide' and 'International Fairs Directory' entries are not from NordBau and can bind you to a paid contract over several years
- Build-up is long: in 2026 open air build-up started on the Monday nine days before opening, and in the final two days a cash deposit was charged per vehicle entering the site, so crews should plan hotel nights from early in the build-up week
- In 2026 childcare for children aged 3 to 8 ran daily from 10:00 to 17:00 in the Hall 1 entrance foyer with the Deutscher Kinderschutzbund; check it runs again in 2027
