ORNARIS, the trade fair for trends, inspiration and design, returns to the BERNEXPO grounds in Bern from Sunday 22 to Tuesday 24 August 2027. Its organiser, BERNEXPO AG, calls it Switzerland's largest consumer goods trade fair and a meeting place for the specialist trade. Exhibitors show new products, seasonal trends, bestsellers and sustainable lines in six areas (Jewelry & Accessories, Home & Garden, Beauty & Wellbeing, Paper & Office, Giving & Fun, Gourmet & Drinks), with newcomers in O-STARTER and FRESH IDEAS & DESIGN and special zones such as CHOSEN FOR YOU and 3D PRINT DESIGN MADE IN CH. The 2026 Bern edition brought together more than 700 brands from Switzerland and abroad, including over 50 new exhibitors, for retailers ordering for autumn and Christmas. It is for trade visitors only. BERNEXPO sits in Wankdorf, a few hundred metres from the motorway junction, with tram 9 from Bern station, so hotels by the grounds, in Breitenrain, the Old Town and around the Hauptbahnhof all work. - BERNEXPO says international guests can use four airports: Bern-Belp is 15 minutes away, Basel-Mulhouse and Zurich 80 minutes and Geneva 110 minutes
- Taxis wait at the rank directly by the Guisanplatz tram stop on Mingerstrasse, beside the grounds
- From Bern station, tram 9 runs to the Wankdorf Center stop, or take bus 20 to Wankdorf Bahnhof and change to tram 9 or walk about 10 minutes
- Check rail and tram times on the SBB or BERNMOBIL journey planner before you travel
By rail and road
- S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S3, S4, S31 and S44 stop at Bern Wankdorf, from where tram 9 runs to Wankdorf Center or it is about a 10 minute walk
- From Ittigen and Muri, bus 40 runs to the Guisanplatz Expo stop; from Ostermundigen take bus 28 to Wankdorf Bahnhof and change to tram 9
- By car, the BERNEXPO site lies a few hundred metres from the Wankdorf motorway junction on the A1, A6 and A12; follow the signs for BERNEXPO or expo from the exit
- The organiser recommends public transport because there are few parking spaces on ORNARIS days
How do you get around during ORNARIS Bern?
On site at BERNEXPO
- In 2026 the fair was open 09:00 to 18:00 on Sunday and Monday and 09:00 to 16:00 on Tuesday; 2027 hours follow the same Sunday to Tuesday pattern but check them before you travel
- All catering at ORNARIS is cashless: you can load cash onto a value card at the fair office in the entrance foyer, and the card carries a deposit
- The fair office and lost property are at the main entrance in hall 2.1, with a cash machine by entrance 2.1 and a cloakroom costing CHF 2.00 per item
- Dogs are not allowed in the halls or on the grounds, except guide and assistance dogs; the grounds and halls are wheelchair accessible
Wankdorf, Breitenrain, the Old Town or the station?
- Wankdorf hotels sit right by the grounds: BERNEXPO lists hotels directly opposite and next to the site, with the tram outside
- Breitenrain is a popular residential quarter close to BERNEXPO with smaller hotels on quiet side streets
- The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with arcades, fountains and cafés, is within 10 minutes by tram from the hotels by the grounds, according to BERNEXPO
- The Hauptbahnhof area suits a rail arrival, with tram 9 running out to Wankdorf
Do you need a visa for ORNARIS Bern?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Switzerland is in the Schengen Area but is not a member of the EU; the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) describes it as one of the associated states that apply all the Schengen rules, and EU and EFTA citizens enter with a valid ID card or passport
- Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and many other countries can visit the Schengen Area, Switzerland included, without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- SEM says the Entry/Exit System has been introduced throughout the Schengen area since 12 October 2025, so non EU travellers have their fingerprints and a facial image taken at the external border; allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, is not yet in operation; SEM says no applications are collected yet
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen (type C) visa, which SEM says is valid for Switzerland and the other Schengen states
- SEM does not issue visas itself: Swiss representations abroad decide on them, and the swiss-visa.ch portal explains how and where to apply
- Under Schengen rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel, and the normal processing time is 15 days
Documents to carry
- A passport issued within the last ten years and valid for at least three months after you leave the Schengen area, as SEM requires for short stays
- Proof that you are a trade visitor or exhibitor, as ORNARIS admits trade visitors only
- Your hotel booking, return travel details and travel medical insurance if you need a visa
