Getting to the BIC

The Bournemouth International Centre, known as the BIC, is on Exeter Road, Bournemouth, BH2 5BH, on the seafront. Wikipedia gives the address as Exeter Road and says the venue sits on the seafront, and the postcode BH2 5BH is also the satnav postcode given in a conference venue guide that reproduces the BIC's travel information. BH Live, the charity that runs it, lists the same address as its registered office. The venue is owned by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council and run by BH Live, according to Wikipedia.

A note on sources. The BIC's own website refused to load for this research, so the travel details below come from pages that repeat them or from other official bodies, and each is checked against another where possible. Always confirm event day details with your organiser or the BIC before you travel.

By train, you arrive at Bournemouth station on Holdenhurst Road, BH8 8HX. National Rail lists South Western Railway as the operator, with toilets, a Changing Places toilet, refreshments, Wi Fi and step free access to all platforms in category B2, meaning some step free access. Staff help is listed as available around the clock. The station is not close to the BIC. A conference venue guide that repeats the BIC's own travel information puts the BIC 1.3 miles from the station, about a 28 minute walk. A separate delegate guide from the CAA conference in 2019 gives about 30 minutes on foot from the Transport Interchange and notes a taxi rank outside the station. The same guide says regular buses run from the interchange to the BIC and names Yellowbuses, Morebus and Plusbus as operators.

By bus, the same conference guide lists the nearest stops to the BIC with walking times: Bournemouth Pier about 2 minutes (82 metres), Beacon Road about 4 minutes (232 metres), Westover Road about 7 minutes (425 metres) and Bournemouth Square about 8 minutes (471 metres). Route details are on the Morebus website. Because walking times are given for each stop, a good rule is to ask the driver or the Morebus journey planner which of these stops your service uses, and choose the one that suits your luggage and the weather.

By car, the BIC says on the guide that it has an attached multi storey public car park with 644 spaces, covered in the parking section below. The Oceanarium, next door to the BIC at Pier Approach, adds that coaches can drop passengers in the turning area behind the Oceanarium, next to the BIC. National Rail says Bournemouth station has 414 car park spaces including 7 accessible spaces, a drop off and pick up point, and cycle storage and hire. For arrivals by air, the guide says Bournemouth Airport is about 6 miles from the centre and reached by bus or taxi, and that Southampton Airport is a 36 minute train ride to Bournemouth station followed by a short bus or taxi trip.

Entrances and halls at the BIC

The BIC is a large multi hall venue, and the official website is the right place for the current floor plans. Because it could not be read for this research, this section sticks to what could be confirmed from other pages and says where information is missing. Wikipedia lists the main halls. Windsor Hall is the largest and holds 6,500 standing or 4,000 seated, and Wikipedia describes it as one of the bigger indoor music venues in England, with the largest tensile grid in Europe, made of 30 miles of steel wire, which can suspend about 90 tonnes. Purbeck Hall is a circular hall added in 1990. Solent Hall holds exhibitions or up to 2,000 people for standing concerts and replaced the leisure swimming pool and wave machine in the 2004 refurbishment. Tregonwell Hall was one of the two halls at opening in 1984 alongside Windsor Hall, but the Wikipedia article gives no capacity and does not say whether it is still used. The concert listings site Songkick gives the venue a capacity of 4,100 for music shows.

On entrances, only the car park access is described in a page that repeats the BIC's information. The conference venue guide says the multi storey car park has step free access to the foyer from all levels and wider accessible spaces on levels 1, 2 and 3. The guide does not describe which door leads to which hall, so use the entry details on your ticket or your exhibitor pack. For exhibitors with deliveries and stand build, the event organiser holds the load in plan, and Business Events Bournemouth, the destination conference bureau, is the contact for venue finding at 01202 816147.

The venue's history helps explain the layout. Wikipedia says the BIC was built between 1982 and 1984 and opened on 6 September 1984 at a cost of 19.5 million pounds. It was expanded in 1990, refurbished in 2004, and a 1.8 million pound refurbishment was announced in June 2022. It sits on the seafront, a short way from Bournemouth Pier and next to the Oceanarium, which is why a trip to a show at the BIC often becomes a trip to the seafront too.

A word on the Pavilion. Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre and Ballroom is a separate sister venue run by BH Live, and one conference organiser used it for a dinner while holding sessions at the BIC. If you see Pavilion mentioned on a ticket, check the address before you travel, because it is a different building from the BIC.

Last trains and getting back late

This guide does not quote a last train time from Bournemouth. The only official source read for the station, National Rail, does not print a timetable. It links to live departures and to a Bournemouth Onward Travel Information PDF. Before an evening event, look up the last departure for your date and direction on the National Rail website or the South Western Railway app, and check the operator timetable on the day, because engineering works and event day changes can move the last service.

What can be said is how far you have to go. The station is 1.3 miles and about 28 minutes on foot from the BIC, according to the venue information reproduced by a conference organiser, so a late finish means either a bus from the stops around the Pier, Westover Road or Bournemouth Square, or a taxi. National Rail says staff help is available at the station 24 hours a day and that there is a drop off and pick up point, and that the ticket office hours are Monday to Friday 05:45 to 19:15, Saturday 06:15 to 18:00 and Sunday 07:45 to 18:30. Outside those hours you will need to use the ticket machines.

The CAA delegate guide notes a taxi rank outside the railway station, which matters for the other end of the journey. If you are leaving the BIC late, ask a steward or your hotel to book a taxi. For a group, it is often simplest to stay within walking distance so that nobody has to catch the last train, and the next sections list the hotels that are closest.

Parking at the BIC

The BIC has its own car park, attached to the venue. The conference venue guide gives the facts: 644 spaces, a cashless, multi storey public car park open 24 hours, with step free access to the foyer from all levels, wider accessible spaces on levels 1, 2 and 3, and a height limit of 6 feet 6 inches (2 metres), marked by a fixed yellow barrier at the entrance. Check your vehicle height before you come. The satnav postcode for the venue is BH2 5BH.

Prices change, so this guide does not quote them. Because the car park is cashless, make sure you have a card with you.

There are other car parks close by. The Oceanarium's getting here page lists four pay and display car parks within a few minutes' walk of Pier Approach: Bath Road South, Bath Road North, the BH2 Centre car park and the BIC car park. It sends visitors to the council's car park finder for prices. It also says the nearest disabled bays are at Bath Road North and Bath Road South, and that there is a drop off point behind Hot Rocks Cafe. On a busy day, such as a Saturday in summer, a big concert or a popular fair, the nearest car parks can be full, so allow extra time.

If you do not want to drive into the seafront, Bournemouth station has its own car park of 414 spaces, according to National Rail, but it is a long walk from the BIC, so you would be combining parking with a bus or taxi. For coaches, the Oceanarium says passengers can be dropped in the turning area behind it, next to the BIC. Event organisers and coach companies can confirm the arrangements for their own groups.

Which side of the BIC to stay on

Visit Bournemouth's accommodation pages split the hotels near the seafront into areas such as West Cliff and Town Centre, and those labels are a useful way to choose. It lists Hotel Collingwood as West Cliff, near the beach, and the Chelsea Hotel and Carrington House Hotel as Town Centre, near the beach.

West Cliff is the closest for walking. The Travelodge Bournemouth Seafront is on West Hill Road in West Cliff and Hotel Collingwood is on Priory Road, about 400 yards from the BIC, according to Visit Bournemouth. The Hilton Bournemouth is on Terrace Road, BH2 5EL. Business Events Bournemouth also names the Royal Exeter Hotel and the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott on its site, and the Nici Hotel on West Cliff, though it does not state distances for them.

The town centre side is the better choice if you want shops, restaurants and bars close to your hotel. Premier Inn Bournemouth Central is on Westover Road, BH1 2BZ, and describes itself as a few short steps to the sea front. Westover Road is also the name of one of the bus stops about 7 minutes' walk from the BIC, which gives you a sense of the distance in the town centre direction.

In practice, either side works for a trip to the BIC, because the seafront and the town centre are both compact. If you have luggage or mobility needs, check each hotel's own directions and the walking route before you book.

Budget hotel brands near the BIC: what we could confirm

Two budget chains with hotels in the central seafront area could be verified. Travelodge Bournemouth Seafront is at West Hill Road, Bournemouth, BH2 5EG. Visit Bournemouth describes it as having a coastal location in West Cliff, with the seafront only 200 yards away and Bournemouth Pier less than half a mile's walk. The page does not mention the BIC, so this guide cannot give a distance to it. A glance at a map will show how close West Hill Road is to Exeter Road before you book.

Premier Inn Bournemouth Central is on Westover Road, Bournemouth, BH1 2BZ. Visit Bournemouth lists it as just a few short steps to the sea front. Again, the page does not state a distance to the BIC. Westover Road is in the town centre side of the seafront, and the Westover Road bus stop is about 7 minutes' walk from the BIC, according to the conference venue guide, so it is a reasonable walking distance, but check the route yourself.

A third option for a lower budget is to stay further from the sea. Bournemouth station and its surrounding streets have more hotels and guest houses, but they are at least 1.3 miles and about 28 minutes on foot from the BIC, so you would be relying on buses or taxis. Prices vary with events at the BIC, and the nights around large concerts or conferences sell out first. Event Escapes can book hotels for a team with a company invoice, and a custom quote is available for groups attending a conference or exhibition here.

How close are the hotels to the BIC on foot?

Bournemouth has more walkable hotels than many UK exhibition venues, because the BIC is in the middle of the hotel district. Three have a stated link to the BIC on a page that was read. Hotel Collingwood, at 11 to 13 Priory Road, BH2 5DF, is about 400 yards from the BIC according to Visit Bournemouth, which also says the beach is a 4 minute walk and the pier about 5 minutes. Best Western's own page gives the same address and says that the BIC, the pier and the seafront are all within walking distance, without figures. The Visit Bournemouth page adds that there is car parking and free Wi Fi.

The Hilton Bournemouth is on Terrace Road, BH2 5EL. Visit Bournemouth says it is five minutes' walk from the seafront promenade and beach, and that the hotel has easy access to the BIC. It does not give a distance. Travelodge Bournemouth Seafront and Premier Inn Bournemouth Central, covered in the previous section, are also in the area, but their pages do not state a distance to the BIC.

As a rule of thumb for planning, the conference venue guide gives walking times to the nearest bus stops of 2 minutes for the Pier, 4 minutes for Beacon Road and 7 minutes for Westover Road. That gives a feel for how compact the area around the BIC is. Confirm walking time to the hotel's door on a map before you book, particularly if your event ends late and you will be walking back in the dark.

Upmarket hotels near the BIC: what we could confirm

The Hilton Bournemouth is the main upscale chain hotel named close to the BIC, on Terrace Road. Visit Bournemouth says it has easy access to the BIC and is five minutes' walk from the beach. Business Events Bournemouth also names the Hilton Bournemouth on its site. The Hilton website blocked access, so this guide does not describe its rooms or facilities.

Hotel Collingwood is a West Cliff hotel on Priory Road, about 400 yards from the BIC by Visit Bournemouth's figure. Business Events Bournemouth also lists the Royal Exeter Hotel, which it calls a three star hotel, the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott, and the Nici Hotel, which it describes as five star and on West Cliff, but the page gives no distances. Visit Bournemouth lists Carrington House Hotel and the Chelsea Hotel in the Town Centre, near the beach, and says Carrington House has a swimming pool and spa.

If you want an upscale hotel for a conference or exhibition, ask the organiser whether they have negotiated a delegate rate, and use Business Events Bournemouth for accommodation enquiries. Its listed contact for delegate accommodation is 01202 816147 or bookings@bebres.org.uk. Event Escapes can also quote for a team booking with a company invoice.

Eating and evenings near the BIC

The BIC sits beside the seafront attractions, and the conference venue guide lists what is nearby without stating walking times: the Russell Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, Bournemouth Beach, the pier and arcades, the Lower and Upper Gardens, the Oceanarium and Westbourne village. These give you places to spend time before a show or between sessions at a fair.

For food, the sources read for this guide name only a few places. The Oceanarium's getting here page mentions Hot Rocks Cafe, behind the Oceanarium, as a reference point for the drop off area. Visit Bournemouth lists The Real Greek, in the Town Centre, as a Mediterranean and Greek restaurant, and Sala Thai Restaurant as a Thai option. None of the pages states the walking distance from the BIC, so treat these as options to look up on a map. The pier and the seafront have many more places that were not individually checked, and this guide does not name them.

For an evening out, Visit Bournemouth's what's on page lists venues such as The Anvil, The Vault Nightclub, Bearcave and Canvas as hosting music events in the town in mid October 2026. It does not state distances from the BIC. For the BIC itself, the Songkick page lists upcoming concerts such as The Script on 16 November 2026, Bill Bailey on 21 November 2026, Bob Dylan on 25 November 2026 and The Australian Pink Floyd Show on 26 November 2026. Check the BIC's own what's on page before booking, because dates change.

Tips for exhibitors and visitors

Plan the end of the day first. The BIC is about 28 minutes on foot from the station, the car park has a 2 metre height limit and is cashless, and the nearest bus stops are 2 to 8 minutes' walk away. Decide before you leave how you will get back, and whether you want a hotel within walking distance so that nobody has to catch the last train.

Know the recurring events. The Cool Coast Ice Rink, run by the charity BH Live, ran its 2025 to 2026 season at the BIC until Sunday 22 February 2026, including February half term. Bournemouth Comic Con, run by Creed Conventions, is listed for Saturday 5 September 2026. The Bournemouth Brick Festival, established in 2018, ran at the BIC on Saturday 6 September 2025. The Green Party of England and Wales held its autumn conference at the BIC in 2025, and Wikipedia says the Liberal Democrat Conference continues to be held there. Check the BIC's calendar for any date you rely on.

Exhibitors and conference organisers should use the destination bureau. Business Events Bournemouth gives 01202 816147 and info@bebres.org.uk for venue finding, and bookings@bebres.org.uk for delegate accommodation. The conference organiser guide also suggests booking through that service for secure hotel booking. Event Escapes can book hotels for a team with a company invoice, and a custom quote is available.

Finally, if you are coming for a concert, expect the area around the seafront to be busy. Park early or use public transport, and keep your ticket and booking details on your phone. The Oceanarium notes that coaches can drop passengers behind it, next to the BIC, which is useful for group organisers. Check with the BIC for accessible parking and drop off, because the details were not available from the sources read here.
