Art Brussels, which the organiser describes as one of Europe's leading contemporary art fairs, returns to Brussels Expo from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 April 2027. Founded in 1968 by the association of Brussels galleries and held every year since 1997, the fair brings together around 150 galleries in five sections: Prime, Solo, '68 Forward, Discovery and Horizons, which Chris Dercon will select for 2027. The 2026 edition welcomed 25,969 visitors and 139 galleries from 26 countries, with the whole fair in Hall 5, opposite the Atomium. In 2026 the Thursday opened with a preview and an evening vernissage, and Friday to Sunday were the public days; the 2027 hours were not yet published when we checked. Whether you are collecting, visiting with friends or working on a gallery stand, the main hotel choice is between Heysel and Laeken beside the halls, the city centre and Brussels-Midi on metro line 6, and the gallery streets around Avenue Louise and Ixelles. This page shows live Art Brussels hotel rates for your dates. Fair tickets are sold separately by the organiser, and Event Escapes is independent of Art Brussels and its hotel suggestions.

Where should you eat during Art Brussels?

Brussels Expo/Heysel is in the far north of the city; Metro line 6 runs from Heysel to the centre in about 15 minutes, or a taxi in 15-20. There are solid Belgian brasseries walkable from the halls, but the Michelin tables are a ride into town. Lock those in before you fly for Busworld.

How do you get to Art Brussels?

From Brussels Airport (BRU)

  • Visit Brussels says a direct train leaves Brussels Airport every 15 minutes, taking 12 minutes to Brussels North, 17 minutes to Brussels Central and 21 minutes to Brussels-Midi
  • Every rail passenger to or from the airport pays the Diabolo supplement on top of the fare, so check the price in the SNCB app before you travel
  • From any of those stations, continue on metro line 6 to Heysel; Brussels Expo says the metro from Brussels-Midi takes 15 minutes
  • From Brussels South Charleroi Airport, Visit Brussels lists the Brussels City Shuttle twice an hour (about 45 minutes) or a TEC bus and train combination

By train and car

  • Eurostar, TGV and ICE trains arrive at Brussels-Midi, and Visit Brussels says London, Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne are under two hours away by train
  • By car, take the Brussels Ring (R0) to exit 7A and follow the signs for Expo, as Art Brussels and Brussels Expo both direct
  • The organiser points visitors to Parking C, reached from exit 7A, with no less than 10,000 spaces and a footbridge or shuttle to the fair
  • In 2026 the organiser listed parking at 12 euros, with presale on the Brussels Expo website; check the 2027 rate before you drive

How do you get around during Art Brussels?

Metro, tram and bus to Heysel

  • Art Brussels and Brussels Expo both say metro line 6 from the city centre reaches the venue directly in a few minutes; get off at Heysel or Koning Boudewijn (Roi Baudouin)
  • Tram 7 and bus 83 stop at Heysel, trams 9, 51 and 93 and several De Lijn buses stop at Stadium, and tram 3 stops at Esplanade, according to the organiser
  • From the north west, the organiser suggests bus 84 or 89 to the Koning Boudewijn (Amandiers) stop
  • The organiser notes that some of these services stop in the afternoon (bus 83 until 16:00 and tram 9 until 17:00 at certain stops), so check the STIB planner for your return trip

Choosing where to stay

  • Hotels in Heysel and Laeken keep you closest to Hall 5 and the Atomium, which helps if you plan long days at the fair
  • Central Brussels and the area around Brussels-Midi give more choice for evenings, with metro line 6 to Heysel; check each hotel's distance to a line 6 station on the map
  • Avenue Louise and Ixelles are home to many Brussels galleries, and several hotels on the organiser's own suggestions list are there; allow for a metro change to reach Heysel
  • Brussels Expo is fully accessible for people with reduced mobility, the organiser says, with dedicated parking and restrooms on site

Do you need a visa for Art Brussels?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Belgium is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries need no visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
  • ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through Belgian embassies, consulates or their appointed visa centres
  • Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
  • Gallerists and collectors who need a supporting letter should contact the Art Brussels team early; the pages we checked do not describe a visa letter service

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
  • Your Art Brussels e-ticket or invitation, and proof of age if you use a youth ticket, plus a bank card, as there is no cash payment on site
  • Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the Belgian embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.

First time at Art Brussels?

  • In 2026 the public days ran from 11:00 to 19:00 on Friday and Saturday and 11:00 to 18:00 on Sunday, after a Thursday preview and vernissage; check the organiser's access page for the 2027 hours
  • Buy your ticket online in advance to avoid queues, as the organiser recommends; tickets are also sold on site, but there is no cash payment and no refunds
  • The organiser offers reduced tickets for children, visitors aged 16 to 26 and Article 27 holders, but no senior, disability or Museumpass discount, and student groups can ask for free entry by email
  • Small handbags can go into the halls, but backpacks, suitcases, umbrellas and trolleys of any size must be left at the cloakroom at the entrance
  • Free public guided tours ran on the 2026 public days without registration, mostly in French and Dutch, with an English tour of the '68 Forward section on the Sunday

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • In 2026 Brussels galleries taking part in Gallery Night stayed open until 21:00 on the eve of the fair, so arriving the night before gives you time for the city's galleries as well
  • On the day you check out, leave your suitcase at the hotel, as luggage of any size has to go to the cloakroom at the fair
  • Families: in 2026 the Kids Corner for children aged 5 to 12 ran on the Saturday and Sunday, and kids' tours could be booked in French, Dutch or English
