EMO MILANO 2027, the world exhibition for the metalworking sector, runs from Monday 4 to Friday 8 October 2027 at Fiera Milano Rho, on the north western edge of Milan. EMO alternates between Hanover and Milan, and the organisers say this edition brings it back to Italy after six years, with all 12 exhibition halls reserved for machine tools, robots, automation and the wider manufacturing technology chain. The last Milan edition, in 2021, registered more than 60,000 visitors from 91 countries. The fairground has its own railway station and sits at the end of the red M1 metro line, which EMO's travel page puts at 30 to 35 minutes from the city centre. That leaves you a simple choice when you book EMO MILANO hotels: stay close to Rho Fiera for the shortest morning journey, or stay central near an M1 stop for Milan's restaurants and evening meetings. How do you get to EMO MILANO?
From Milan's airports
- Milan Malpensa (MXP) is the main long haul gateway; EMO's travel page lists a Malpensa Express rail connection to Rho Fiera Milano station, so check the Trenord timetable for your train and whether it needs a change in central Milan
- From Milan Linate (LIN), the M4 metro line connects the airport with the city centre, according to ATM, and EMO's travel page lists bus links to Milan's central railway stations, from where you continue by metro or train to Rho Fiera
- From Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY), EMO's travel page lists shuttles to Milano Centrale, then a train or the metro to Rho Fiera
- EMO's travel page notes fixed fare taxi trips to and from Linate, Malpensa and Orio al Serio airports
By rail or road
- Fiera Milano Rho has its own railway station inside the exhibition centre, with regional services from Milano Porta Garibaldi, Centrale and Lambrate, according to EMO
- EMO's travel page says high speed Frecciarossa, Italo and Eurocity trains make a direct stop at Rho Fiera during major events; check whether your train does
- By car, EMO lists the A4 (Pero Fieramilano exit) and the A8 and A9 (Fieramilano exit), with the A1 and A7 reached through the western ring road
- EMO's travel page lists car parks with more than 20,000 spaces at Porta Est, Porta Ovest and Porta Sud
How do you get around during EMO MILANO?
Getting to Fiera Milano Rho each day
- Take the red M1 metro line to its Rho Fieramilano terminus; EMO's travel page gives an average of 30 to 35 minutes from the city centre
- ATM, Milan's transport operator, says the suburban S5, S6 and S11 trains also stop at Rho Fiera railway station
- ATM says a Mi1 to Mi3 ticket (2.20 euros, valid for 90 minutes) covers the trip by either metro or S line train; holders of an urban travel pass need a 1.70 euro supplement
- EMO's travel page says Uber, Free Now and Lyft operate in Milan, alongside licensed taxis, but on fair mornings the train and metro avoid the traffic around the fairground
Rho Fiera or central Milan?
- Rho and Pero are the closest areas to the halls and suit exhibitors with early stand set ups, but evenings are quiet, so check each hotel's position on the map
- Cadorna and the Duomo are on the M1 line, so a central hotel still gives you a direct metro ride to the fair with the city's restaurants close by after the show
- Porta Garibaldi and Centrale have regional trains to Rho Fiera station, according to EMO, which suits travellers arriving by high speed rail
- HostMilano 2027 is also at Fiera Milano Rho, from 22 to 26 October, so if you are staying on in Milan check hotel availability for both weeks
Do you need a visa for EMO MILANO?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Italy is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries can visit the Schengen Area for business without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through Italy's consulates or their appointed visa centres
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
- If you need an invitation letter for a visa, ask the exhibitor you are meeting or the EMO organisers well before your consulate appointment
Documents to carry
- A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
- Your EMO MILANO 2027 registration or entry pass once the organiser issues it
- Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

- EMO had not published visitor tickets, admission rules or opening hours for 2027 when we checked, so watch the EMO website for visitor registration before you plan each day
- All 12 halls at Fiera Milano Rho are reserved for EMO 2027, so list the halls and stands you want to see and plan them in order rather than crossing the fairground several times
- The last Milan edition drew visitors from 91 countries, so book your hotel early for the week
- Buy a Mi1 to Mi3 ticket for the trip to Rho Fiera rather than a cheaper city ticket, and keep it until you leave the station
- Wear comfortable shoes, as the walk between halls at Rho is long

- Staying near an M1 stop such as Cadorna or the Duomo gives you one train to the fair and back, with no change, and keeps evenings in the city simple
- The organisers say foreign visitors to the 2021 edition often spent more than one day at the fair, so consider booking enough nights for a second day rather than squeezing everything into one
