GIFA, the international foundry trade fair, runs at Messe Düsseldorf from Monday 21 to Friday 25 June 2027. Messe Düsseldorf holds it together with METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST as The Bright World of Metals, so foundry, metallurgy, thermal processing and casting visitors all share the same week and the same hotel supply. The organiser reports 854 GIFA exhibitors and 63,300 visitors at the 2023 edition, a visitor figure that covers the whole quartet. That is why GIFA hotels in Düsseldorf book up early. Stockum, beside the exhibition centre and minutes from the airport, lets you walk to the halls, while the Altstadt and city centre give you far more room choice, a direct U78 ride to the Messe and better evenings for client dinners. This page shows live hotel rates near Messe Düsseldorf for your dates, so you can compare GIFA accommodation before June demand peaks.

How do you get to GIFA?

From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS)

  • DUS sits unusually close to the venue: a taxi reaches the Messe in about 10 to 15 minutes
  • By train, ride the S11 or a regional service one or two stops to Hauptbahnhof and change to the U78 light rail, about 35 to 45 minutes in total
  • The airport offers dense European coverage and selected long haul routes; many visitors connect via Frankfurt, Istanbul or Gulf hubs
  • Arrivals surge on the Sunday before the fair opens, so pre-book any taxi transfer or expect a queue

By rail from across the region

  • Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof is a major ICE stop: Frankfurt Airport is about 1h30 direct and Cologne roughly 25 minutes away
  • Commuting from Cologne, Essen or Duisburg is common during big Messe weeks, with frequent regional and S-Bahn services into Düsseldorf
  • From Hauptbahnhof, the U78 runs to the fairground stops in 15 to 20 minutes
  • Long distance trains fill up around 08:00 and 18:00 during fair weeks, so reserving seats on ICE legs is worth the small fee

How do you get around during GIFA?

Getting to Messe Düsseldorf daily

  • The U78 to Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord is the workhorse route, with the U79 serving nearby stops; entrances also connect by local buses
  • GIFA admission tickets no longer include free local public transport, so buy a separate bus and train ticket; the organiser points visitors to the eezy check-in/check-out fare
  • Taxi ranks at the halls develop long waits when the fair empties at 18:00; walking a stop away before hailing helps
  • Staying in Stockum or near the Rheinpark lets you walk to the halls and skip the tram entirely

Around Düsseldorf

  • Rheinbahn's app sells local tickets, and a day ticket is usually better value on any show day with an evening plan
  • The Deutschland-Ticket covers local transport plus regional trains from Cologne or Essen if you are commuting in
  • Altstadt and Medienhafen restaurants are busy during big fair weeks, so reserve dinner venues for client evenings in advance
  • Late June is usually warm in Düsseldorf, so pack light layers for the halls and the walk along the Rhine in the evening

Do you need a visa for GIFA?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Around 59 nationalities (including the US, UK, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the UAE, Australia and most of Latin America) enter Germany without a visa for stays up to 90 days in 180
  • The EU's ETIAS authorisation begins operating in late 2026; a transitional period applies initially, so visa-exempt visitors should check whether it is required by June 2027
  • First-time non-EU entrants are enrolled in the EU Entry/Exit System with fingerprints and photo at the border

eVisa / visa required

  • Attendees from India, China, Pakistan, Egypt, Nigeria, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and many other foundry markets need a Schengen C business visa via German consulates or visa centres
  • Large Düsseldorf fairs create heavy consular demand, so lodge applications 8 to 12 weeks ahead, especially in India and China where slots are tightest
  • A German-issued Schengen visa permits travel across the Schengen area, convenient for combined European supplier tours

Documents to carry

  • Your GIFA registration or ticket confirmation and any invitation letter from Messe Düsseldorf or a German partner company
  • Accommodation proof covering every night and a return or onward ticket
  • Schengen visa holders must carry evidence of travel medical insurance with at least €30,000 in coverage

Rules shift, particularly through the ETIAS rollout from late 2026: confirm requirements with the German embassy or an official government source before you book.

First time at GIFA?

  • Visitor hours are 10:00 to 18:00 every day from Monday 21 to Friday 25 June, so plan a realistic number of stand visits per day
  • Hall allocation for 2027 is still to follow, so check the organiser's hall plan before you arrive
  • Register in the GIFA ticket shop early; the organiser says ticket sales open later
  • Buy a separate local transport ticket, as GIFA admission no longer includes free buses and trains
  • METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST share the week, so check their halls too if your suppliers span casting, metallurgy and heat treatment

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • With four fairs drawing on one hotel supply, Stockum and airport area rooms go first; book as soon as your dates are fixed
  • An Altstadt or city centre hotel near a U78 stop gives you a direct ride to the Messe and more choice of restaurants
  • Exhibitors build up from 11 June, so exhibitor teams often need extra nights before the fair opens
