16 Nov – 19 Nov 2026 Messe Düsseldorf 80,000+ attendees
MEDICA 2026 fills Messe Düsseldorf each November as the world's largest medical trade fair, running alongside COMPAMED, its co-located event for the medtech supply chain. More than 80,000 visitors and over 5,000 exhibiting companies from around 70 nations occupy the hall complex on the Rhine: hospital procurement teams, distributors, physicians, lab specialists and medical-device engineers come to source everything from imaging and diagnostics to disposables, digital health and components. Düsseldorf's hotel capacity is famously mismatched to a fair this size — rooms in Stockum by the Messe, the Altstadt and the city centre sell out months out, rates multiply, and thousands of attendees commute from Cologne, Duisburg, Essen and Neuss. This page focuses on exactly that problem: a MEDICA-specific guide to DUS airport transfers, the U78 route to the halls, German visa requirements by nationality and hard-won attendee tips, paired with live, bookable hotel rates near the venue.

Messe Düsseldorf visitors can round off trade-fair days with second-division football, a giant Rhine funfair and big arena shows.
Merkur Spiel-Arena is right next to the Messe grounds, so a Fortuna home match is the easiest possible add-on to a trade-fair trip.

Rules shift, particularly through the ETIAS rollout in late 2026 — confirm requirements with the German embassy or an official government source before you book.
Stockum, immediately by the fairgrounds, is the most convenient and sells out first. The Altstadt and central Düsseldorf balance evening life with a 20-minute U78 ride, and rail-connected neighbours — Neuss, Duisburg, Cologne, Essen — are entirely workable overflow bases.
Expect the steepest hotel inflation of Düsseldorf's fair calendar — rates commonly reach two to four times normal November levels, and the closest properties carry the biggest premiums. Commuting from a nearby city often halves the nightly cost.
Six months or more ahead is normal for regulars; realistically, anything bookable within Düsseldorf at a fair price three months out is worth taking. Use free-cancellation rates and lock something in the moment attendance is likely.
Düsseldorf (DUS) — it is a 10–15 minute taxi from the Messe, which is about as good as airport-to-venue logistics get in Europe. Frankfurt (FRA) plus a 90-minute direct ICE, or Cologne/Bonn (CGN) an hour away, are solid alternatives when DUS fares spike.
MEDICA is the main medical trade fair covering devices, diagnostics, imaging, lab and digital health for buyers and practitioners, while COMPAMED, co-located at the same venue on overlapping dates, serves the upstream supply chain — components, materials and manufacturing services for medtech makers. One trip covers both.
