Scanpack is the Nordic region's largest packaging fair, held at Svenska Mässan, the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, at Korsvägen in central Gothenburg. The next edition runs from Tuesday 26 to Friday 29 October 2027, and the organiser says the fair has been the meeting place for the Scandinavian packaging industry since 1964. The 2024 edition brought together 407 exhibitors and 14,117 participants from 50 countries, covering packaging machinery, materials, labelling, transport packaging and more. The venue sits in the heart of the city, with Avenyn, Gothenburg's main avenue, within walking distance and the trams and airport buses stopping at Korsvägen. That makes it easy to stay right at the venue, along Avenyn, or around the Central Station with a short tram ride each morning. How do you get to Scanpack?
From Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT)
- Vy flygbussarna airport buses run between Landvetter Airport and Gothenburg C with a stop at Korsvägen, right by the venue, and the operator lists departures up to every 15 minutes
- The organiser puts the airport bus journey to Korsvägen/Svenska Mässan at about 20 minutes; the operator says the full trip from Gothenburg C takes about 40 minutes
- Landvetter is Sweden's second largest airport and lies about 25 km from central Gothenburg, according to Vy flygbussarna
- Buy your bus ticket online or in the operator's app, and check the timetable for early build-up days and late departures
By train, tram and car
- Trains arrive at Gothenburg's main railway station, and the trams stop at Korsvägen/Svenska Mässan
- The organiser's directions name trams 4 and 12 (towards Mölndal) from the main railway station and tram 5 (towards Östra Sjukhuset) from Brunnsparken; check Västtrafik for the current lines on your travel days
- The venue's address is Mässans gata, Gothenburg, and the organiser points drivers to the Parkering Göteborg search for car parks near Svenska Mässan
- Short-term accessible parking spaces are outside the hotel entrance (2 hours) and along Skånegatan (4 hours), according to the venue
How do you get around during Scanpack?
Getting around Gothenburg during the fair
- The organiser points to the Västtrafik website for tram timetables, the place to check journeys to Korsvägen
- Avenyn, Gothenburg's best known avenue, is within walking distance of the venue, as are the Liseberg theme park, Universeum, the Scandinavium and Ullevi arenas
- The main entrance to Svenska Mässan is Entrance 5, where the information desk is
- Wheelchairs can be collected from the information desk at the main entrance and booked ahead by email or phone
Choosing where to stay
- Korsvägen puts you next to the halls: the venue's own hotels, Gothia Towers and Upper House, are in the same building as the exhibition centre
- Avenyn and the streets around it give you restaurants and bars for the evenings, within walking distance of Svenska Mässan
- The Central Station and Nordstan area suits train arrivals and has a wide choice of hotels, a short tram ride from Korsvägen
- Check each hotel's distance to Korsvägen or to a tram stop on the map before you book
Do you need a visa for Scanpack?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Sweden is a member of the EU and of the Schengen Area, so EU and Schengen citizens and residents do not need a Schengen visa to visit
- Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and many other countries can visit the Schengen Area, Sweden included, without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the Entry/Exit System at the Schengen area's external borders, with fingerprints and a facial image taken, so allow extra time at passport control at Landvetter
- ETIAS, the planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors to the Schengen area, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen visa for a short business visit; the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) explains who must apply
- In many countries Sweden's applications are received by VFS Global; in others you apply at a Swedish embassy or consulate, or at another Schengen country's mission that represents Sweden
- Under Schengen rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel, and the normal processing time is 15 days
- We could not find a visa letter service on the Scanpack website, so exhibitors and visitors who need one should contact the organiser early
Documents to carry
- A passport valid for at least three months after you plan to leave the Schengen area
- A return ticket, your hotel booking confirmation and proof of funds; Migrationsverket says Sweden expects SEK 700 for each day of your visit
- Travel medical insurance covering at least 30,000 euros, which the Swedish Migration Agency recommends, and your Scanpack ticket on your phone or printed
Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket), the Swedish embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.
First time at Scanpack?
- Opening hours for 26 to 29 October are Tuesday 10:00 to 17:00, Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 to 17:00 and Friday 9:00 to 15:00, so plan a shorter last day
- At the 2024 edition the fair was open to professional visitors over 16, with one ticket valid for all days; children under 16 were not admitted, apart from infants under one in a pram or baby carrier
- Tickets for 2027 were not on sale when we checked; in 2024 an entry ticket cost 295 SEK excluding VAT, and assistants, companions and sign language interpreters entered free
- The stage programme for 2027 is due in June 2027, so check back then to plan seminars around your meetings

Insider tips from repeat attendees
- Try the shrimp sandwich at Twentyfourseven, which the venue says has been served at Gothia Towers since 1984 and is also sold on the exhibition floor
- Exhibitors often receive invoices from directory companies that use the fair's logo; the organiser says it has no link with them, so check carefully before you pay
- Book early if you want to stay in the building itself, since Gothia Towers and Upper House sit directly above the halls
