Getting to Baltimore Convention Center
The Baltimore Convention Center is at One West Pratt Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21201, in the downtown core near the Inner Harbor. The venue's own site says it sits off Interstate 95 and is about 20 minutes by car from Baltimore Washington International Airport. Its directions page links to driving routes from New York City, Washington DC and Alexandria, York and Harrisburg in Pennsylvania, Annapolis and the Eastern Shore, BWI Airport and Baltimore Penn Station. The center has no parking of its own, so before you set off by car, read the parking section below.
The Light Rail is the simplest public transit route from the airport. The MTA Light RailLink runs between BWI Airport and Hunt Valley, and its station list includes Camden Station and Camden Yards and then Convention Center, followed by Baltimore Arena (University Center), Lexington Market and Mt. Vernon. The BWI Airport website says the light rail station is just outside the lower level of the terminal, next to Concourse E, and that one fare covers a trip that includes a transfer. We did not read a journey time or a walking time from the Convention Center station to the entrance, so check the MTA trip planner for the current timetable and plan a short walk.
Baltimore Penn Station, at 1500 North Charles Street, is the Amtrak stop for the city. Amtrak's station page says it connects with MARC commuter rail, the Baltimore Light Rail and the Charm City Circulator. The Convention Center says it is under 2 miles from Penn Station, a short cab ride, and the BWI airport site says to leave the light rail at Mt. Royal and transfer to the Penn Station light rail line if you want to reach Penn Station by rail. MARC also operates the Penn Line and the Camden Line, and the MTA lists schedules for both.
Downtown, the venue also points visitors to the Charm City Circulator, a free shuttle serving downtown attractions, historic sites, parking and businesses. The city says it has five routes, Green, Purple, Orange, Banner and Cherry, and that the Banner and Cherry routes both start at the Inner Harbor. The city's Circulator page does not list stops at the Convention Center, so use the schedules page or the TripShot app to find the nearest one. The center's site also links to the Baltimore Water Taxi, but the pages we read do not list stops or hours.
Entrances and halls at Baltimore Convention Center
The venue's floor plan pages describe a building arranged by level. Level 100 holds the exhibition halls, level 200 is a mezzanine, level 300 has the meeting rooms and level 400 has the ballroom. In total the center lists about 300,000 square feet of contiguous exhibition space, about 85,000 square feet of flexible meeting space across 50 rooms and a 36,672 square foot ballroom. The About page adds that the center opened in August 1979, was expanded in 1996 and hosts more than 125 events a year with about 500,000 attendees.
The Level 100 map names the exhibit halls as Hall A, Hall B, Hall C, Hall D, Hall E, Hall F and Hall G, with a Swing Hall, and describes the space as 300,000 square feet divided into seven separate halls with a ceiling height of 30 feet at the center. The same page lists 28 covered loading docks. The venue's map views show Exhibit Hall A from the Charles Street Lobby, Exhibit Halls C and D, and Exhibit Halls E, F and Swing, and there are Charles North and Charles South show offices.
Two public entrances appear in the venue's own materials. The Charles Street Lobby is a main lobby on the first floor. The Pratt Street entrance is listed with the Swing Hall, and the CharmCity Pass business center is in the 300 Level Pratt Street Lobby. The venue's site does not give a list of numbered doors or a drop off zone, so we are not going to invent one. If your show has a registration area, the organizer will tell you which lobby it is in.
For deliveries, the venue's directions page says that from Pratt Street you turn right onto South Charles Street, and from Conway Street you turn left onto South Charles Street. The entrance to the loading dock area is between the Center and the Sheraton Hotel, at the Public Safety Office entrance. This route is for move in and move out, not for visitors, so use the public entrances if you are attending.
Accessibility details on the venue's FAQ page include curb cuts to the main lobbies, level entrance thresholds, accessible restrooms, elevators with Braille, chimes and raised letters, and water stations near restrooms on levels 100 through 400. Nursing stations are on the first floor in the Charles Street Lobby and outside Meeting Rooms 341 and 342.
Last trains and getting back late
Getting back late in Baltimore depends on the Light Rail, the Charm City Circulator, rideshare and taxis. We are not giving a last train time for the Convention Center station, because we did not read a timetable for that station. What we can say is that the MTA Light RailLink schedule page lists BWI departures every 30 minutes in the evening on the sample day we saw, and that the line has its own published hours and holiday schedules. Check the MTA site at mta.maryland.gov/light-rail or call 410 539 5000 before you plan a late return.
The BWI Airport website lists the hours for the light rail station at the airport. On Monday to Friday its first arrival is 4:45 a.m. and its final departure is 12:40 a.m. On Saturday it is 5:05 a.m. and 12:45 a.m., and on Sunday and holidays it is 10:35 a.m. and 8:40 p.m. Those are the airport station's hours, not the Convention Center station's, so use them as a rough guide only and check the MTA timetable.
The MTA runs MARC on the Penn Line and the Camden Line, and says its Transit Information Contact Center can help with last train times and weekend service on 410 539 5000. We did not read the MARC timetables, so we are not quoting any times. If you are returning to Washington or elsewhere on MARC after an evening show, confirm the last departure in advance.
The Charm City Circulator is free, but the city's page does not list a late night end time and says service sometimes runs later on special event days. For the simplest late trip, use a rideshare or taxi. The venue says a cab from the center to Penn Station is short, and the Convention Center is under 2 miles from there. If your hotel is connected to the center by a skywalk, such as the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor or the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor, you may not need to go outside at all.
Parking at Baltimore Convention Center
The Baltimore Convention Center does not have on site parking. Its FAQ says there is none, but that there are numerous options within a mile, and it recommends SpotHero for finding nearby spots. The directions page also says to reserve parking in advance through SpotHero and links a dedicated Baltimore Convention Center page there.
SpotHero's destination page lists six garages and lots near the center, with walking times as SpotHero shows them. They are the DownUnder Garage at 110 W Lombard Street at about 2 minutes or 505 feet, the One E Pratt Street Garage at 31 E Camden Street at about 4 minutes or 0.2 miles, a lot at 300 W Pratt Street, the Lombard Garage at 221 W Lombard Street, the CFG Bank Arena Garage at 99 S Howard Street and a lot at 110 W Conway Street, each at about 4 minutes or 0.2 miles. These are third party figures, so treat them as a guide. We do not quote rates, because they vary by event and by day.
Some shows publish parking pages for their own attendees, so check your event's page before you book a space. If you stay at a hotel, check whether the hotel charges for parking and whether that is cheaper than the garages above.
The loading dock area is not for visitor parking. The directions page says the entrance to it is between the Center and the Sheraton Hotel, reached from South Charles Street. If you are driving a vehicle with exhibit materials, follow your show's move in schedule and drive directly to the loading area rather than stopping at a public entrance.
Which side of Baltimore Convention Center to stay on
The Baltimore Convention Center is near the Inner Harbor, and a good way to think about where to stay is by street. The venue says it is directly connected to three hotels by skywalk and within walking distance of 8,000 hotel rooms. Third party sources agree that the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor at 401 W Pratt Street and the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor at 300 Light Street are connected, and some list the Sheraton Inner Harbor at 300 S Charles Street as a third. Sources differ on the Sheraton, so confirm with the hotel.
Along West Pratt Street and toward Camden Yards you will find the Hilton, the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards at 110 S Eutaw Street and the Hampton Inn at 550 Washington Boulevard. Navan lists the Hilton at 0.1 miles, the Marriott at 0.2 miles and the Hampton at 0.3 miles. This side also suits Light Rail users, because Camden Station and Convention Center are listed one after the other on the line.
Toward the Inner Harbor on Light Street you will find the Hyatt Regency at 300 Light Street, The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court at 550 Light Street and the Residence Inn by Marriott Baltimore Inner Harbor at 17 Light Street, each listed by Navan at 0.3 miles. An ICNA conference page also lists the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel at 202 E. Pratt Street at 0.3 miles, about an 8 minute walk. This side puts you near the waterfront for the evening.
Further along Eutaw, Baltimore and Redwood Streets, SpringHill Suites by Marriott Baltimore Downtown Convention Center Area is at 100 North Eutaw Street, and the Lord Baltimore Hotel is at 20 W Baltimore Street, listed at 0.4 and 0.3 miles respectively. The Hampton Inn and Suites Baltimore Inner Harbor at 131 E Redwood Street is at 0.4 miles. All of these figures come from Navan, a business travel site, and are straight line distances, not walking routes.
Budget hotel brands near Baltimore Convention Center: what we could confirm
We do not show hotel prices, because rates in Baltimore move with the convention calendar. Instead, here are the chain hotels that Visit Baltimore and Navan place close to the center, so you can compare live rates yourself.
Visit Baltimore names two hotels with the Convention Center in their title. They are the Hampton Inn Baltimore Downtown Convention Center, listed by Navan at 550 Washington Boulevard and 0.3 miles, and SpringHill Suites Baltimore Downtown Convention Center Area, at 100 North Eutaw Street and 0.4 miles. Navan also lists the Hampton Inn and Suites Baltimore Inner Harbor at 131 E Redwood Street at 0.4 miles and the Residence Inn by Marriott Baltimore Inner Harbor at 17 Light Street at 0.3 miles.
Visit Baltimore also lists the Courtyard Baltimore Downtown Inner Harbor, Hotel Indigo Baltimore Downtown and La Quinta Inn and Suites by Wyndham Baltimore Downtown as downtown options, but its page does not give distances for them. An ICNA conference page lists Tru by Hilton Baltimore Harbor East at 411 S Central Avenue as close to Harbor East, with no distance given. Harbor East is a short ride, not a walk.
The best way to keep costs down is to book early, check the rate for the nights either side of your show, and compare a chain hotel a few blocks away with the connected hotels. The Light Rail and the free Charm City Circulator can fill the gap. If you are booking for a team, hotels can be booked for the group with a company invoice, and a custom quote is available.
How close are the hotels to Baltimore Convention Center on foot?
The Convention Center's booking page says it is within walking distance of 8,000 hotel rooms, and the center itself is directly connected to three hotels via skywalk. What matters for most visitors is the group that is closest.
Navan lists nine hotels within 0.4 miles, and says only the Hilton and the Hyatt Regency connect by skybridge. The Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor at 401 W Pratt Street is at 0.1 miles with an enclosed climate controlled skybridge. The Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards, 110 S Eutaw Street, is at 0.2 miles with no skybridge. The Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor, 300 Light Street, is at 0.3 miles with a covered skywalk.
At 0.3 miles Navan also lists the Hampton Inn, The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court, the Residence Inn by Marriott Baltimore Inner Harbor and the Lord Baltimore Hotel. At 0.4 miles are SpringHill Suites and the Hampton Inn and Suites Baltimore Inner Harbor. An ICNA conference page describes the Sheraton Inner Harbor at 300 South Charles Street as attached to the convention center, and a Cvent article describes it as steps away. The venue's own loading dock directions place the Sheraton beside the center.
These are straight line distances from third party sites, not timed walks, and a city block in Baltimore can be steeper and slower than it looks. If you need step free access, check with the hotel.
Upmarket hotels near Baltimore Convention Center: what we could confirm
For the best hotels near the Baltimore Convention Center, the first choice for most trade visitors is one that connects directly to the building. The Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor has a sky bridge straight into the convention center, 757 guest rooms and 100,000 square feet of its own meeting space, according to a Cvent article. The Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor has direct skywalk access, 488 guest rooms and a 14,161 square foot ballroom. The Sheraton Inner Harbor is described as steps away with 338 guest rooms.
The Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards, with 524 guest rooms, is described by the same article as about two blocks away, and Navan lists it at 0.2 miles. For a harbor setting with a little more distance, The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court at 550 Light Street and the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel at 202 E. Pratt Street are both listed at 0.3 miles.
The order above is by connection and distance, not by service or room quality, and we have not rated these hotels. If your show has an official housing block, look at it first, because organizers often negotiate the room rates and the shuttle arrangements. Beware of unsolicited calls or emails offering rooms for your show. One conference page warns about housing pirates and says the hotel only contacts guests about reservation questions.
Eating and evenings near Baltimore Convention Center
Inside the building, Levy is the official hospitality partner and exclusive caterer, and the FAQ says outside food and drinks are not allowed. Food and drinks are sold at concessions run by Levy. The venue is also cashless, so bring a card, and the FAQ says a free kiosk converts cash to card.
Outside, Visit Baltimore's neighborhood guide describes the Inner Harbor as the city's focal point. Harbor East is described as a luxury area with high end waterfront restaurants, and the guide recommends reservations at Charleston, The Bygone and The Atlas Quarter. Fells Point is one of the oldest neighborhoods, with waterfront restaurants and bars, and Little Italy is known for Italian restaurants including La Scala, Cafe Gia, La Tavola, Sabatino's and Vaccaro's for desserts. Federal Hill has a lively bar and restaurant scene and views of the Inner Harbor. The guide does not give walking times from the Convention Center, so check a map.
Visit Baltimore's where to eat page lists Phillips Seafood Baltimore, Nola Seafood and Spirits, Hard Rock Cafe, Rusty Scupper Restaurant, Acqua Restaurant, Stacks Bar and Grill, The Collab, Sabatino's Italian Restaurant and Ruth's Chris Steak House at Pier 5 in a harbor area section. It does not state where each one is, so confirm the address first.
Power Plant Live is at 34 Market Place, Baltimore, MD 21202, and lists Nevermore Hall, PBR Baltimore, Mosaic Ultra Lounge, Rally's Corner Bar, Luckie's Tavern, Underground Pizza Company, Leinie Lodge and Beer Garden and Geno's Steaks. The Downtown Partnership of Baltimore lists live music at Keystone Korner and events at Power Plant Live. The Light Rail stops at Lexington Market, but we could not confirm the market's current vendors, so look at their own site first.
Tips for exhibitors and visitors
Start with your show's website. The Baltimore Convention Center lists events as varied as the Baltimore Comic-Con, the Baltimore Running Festival, the SLEEP Annual Meeting, TechNet Cyber, the Baltimore Home Show and the Maryland Bridal and Wedding Expo, and each organizer sets its own registration areas, hours and rules. An exhibitor move in for a trade show is a very different day from a consumer weekend.
Exhibitors should note the loading dock route and the 28 covered loading docks, and should use the venue's CharmCity Pass business center on the 300 Level Pratt Street Lobby for shipping and receiving. It receives and stores packages, delivers them to your event and ships them out afterward by FedEx, UPS and carrier service, and has self service copying. Four service partners provide catering, audio visual, telecommunications and electrical services, so order those through the organizer's exhibitor kit.
Visitors should bring a payment card, because the center is cashless. The ATM is on the 300 Level West side near meeting room 327, according to the FAQ. Lost items go to Public Safety on 410 649 7055. AEDs are located throughout the building, and the center does not provide EMT services, so event planners arrange their own. Mobility scooters and wheelchairs are not provided but guests can bring their own.
Plan your arrival around transit. The Light Rail has a Convention Center station, listed right after Camden Station and Camden Yards, and the venue's number is 410 649 7000. If you are booking for a team, hotels can be booked for the group with a company invoice, and a custom quote is available.
