Getting to Harrogate Convention Centre
Harrogate Convention Centre is on Kings Road in the middle of Harrogate, at the postcode HG1 5LA, which is the address printed in the venue's footer. Map listings sometimes call it Harrogate International Centre. For satellite navigation the venue gives HG1 2HR, which is the postcode of its own car park. It is a town centre venue, not an out of town show ground, and the venue makes a point of that, saying it is not stuck at the side of a motorway or in the middle of a trading estate.
By rail, Harrogate station is a seven minute walk from the centre, or a short taxi ride, according to the venue's getting here page. Taxis wait across the road opposite the main doors of the station. The venue says there are four daily direct LNER services between London Kings Cross and Harrogate, taking 2 hours 46 minutes, and that LNER offers a discount for people travelling to an exhibition or conference at the centre, with a code supplied by the event. The discount excludes entertainment events, so it is worth checking the terms with your organiser. For other routes into Harrogate, the venue refers people to Visit Harrogate for local bus and rail information.
By road, the venue says it is 21 minutes from the A1 if you are coming from the south. From the M1 and A1(M), leave at junction 45 for Wetherby and take the A661 to Harrogate, or stay on the A1(M) to junction 47 for Knaresborough and follow the signs. From the north it gives 24 minutes from the A1, leaving the A1(M) at junction 47. Leeds Bradford Airport is the closest airport, about 12 miles and 20 minutes away by road. The A2 bus runs hourly from the airport to Harrogate's main bus station in around 31 minutes, and from the bus station it is a five minute walk to the Convention Centre. The venue also mentions flights into Leeds Bradford from Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin.
Entrances and halls at Harrogate Convention Centre
The Convention Centre is a complex of connected spaces with several numbered entrances, and the entrance you need depends on the event. The venue's parking page links the underground car park on Springfield Avenue to Entrances 1, 2 and 3. Entrance 1 is the one used for the Auditorium, with lift access from the Blue Badge bays in the underground car park. Entrance 4 serves Hall M and Entrance 5 serves Hall A, and the Royal Hall has its own entrance. Hall Q, the largest exhibition hall, has its own dedicated entrance, registration area and suite of offices, so for shows in Hall Q the signs on the day matter more than a general rule.
The exhibition halls are lettered. The venue's space descriptions give these floor areas: Hall A 1,600 square metres, Hall B 1,815, Hall C 1,853, Hall D 1,050, Hall M 1,560 and Hall Q 3,285. Hall C has an integral public catering outlet, Hall B has retail catering, and Hall D acts as a central hub that links the Auditorium with the rest of the complex. Hall M has its own offices and reception and is described as a self contained space for exhibitions. The venue states a total of 13,700 square metres of space overall.
The Auditorium is the large conference room, seating up to 1,977 and described by the venue as accommodating almost 2,000 people. The Royal Hall is a separate theatre built in 1903 by the architect Frank Matcham, with a seated capacity just under 1,000. Studio One at 1,592 square metres and Studio Two at 1,250 square metres are the newer flexible spaces, and the Queen's Suite and King's Suite handle smaller conferences. The Kings Conservatory is a small multi purpose room next to the King's Suite. Not every room is open for every event, so look at your own show's floor plan.
On accessibility, the venue works with AccessAble, whose detailed access guide is also in the AccessAble app. There are designated wheelchair spaces in both the Auditorium and the Royal Hall and accessible toilets throughout. A fixed hearing loop covers the main reception and the Auditorium, and the Royal Hall has an infrared system. The venue takes part in the Sunflower Scheme for hidden disabilities.
Last trains and getting back late
We do not quote a last train time for Harrogate, because times change by day and by operator. The venue itself only names LNER for the London direct trains. Before an evening event, check the National Rail journey planner or the timetable of the operator you are travelling with, for the exact day you are travelling.
The practical point is that the station is only a seven minute walk from the Convention Centre, so you can leave the hall late and still reach a platform quickly. Taxis wait opposite the station's main doors, which helps if you arrive after a late finish or are carrying stand materials. The venue's Victoria Car Park is next to the railway station, which is useful if you have parked there for the day and want to walk back to your car after dark.
The venue runs a lot of evening entertainment in the Royal Hall and Auditorium alongside trade and consumer shows, and the whats on page lists dates and venues for each. If you are catching a long distance train home, check whether you are at a daytime exhibition or an evening show, and leave a safe margin. If the show finishes late, a hotel connected to or beside the centre means no journey at all, and we can book rooms for a team on a company invoice with a custom quote if you have several people to place.
Also remember car park closing times. The venue warns that vehicles locked in a car park after closing will be charged a release fee, and says to check the closing time of your car park if you plan to stay late.
Parking at Harrogate Convention Centre
The venue says there are over 1,200 parking spaces in the centre of Harrogate, plus electric car charging one minute away. Its own car park, known as HCC Car Park, has around 158 spaces and a number of Blue Badge spaces. The entrance is on Springfield Avenue and the venue describes it as perfect for events using Entrances 1, 2 and 3. It is open between 06:00 and midnight. The height limits matter if you drive a van: HCC Car Park 1 is 2.0 metres high and 2.5 metres wide, and the service road is 4.95 metres high. The venue says HCC Car Park 2 is closed from 2 July until further notice because of refurbishment works for the Studio 2 project, with alternative parking in HCC Car Park 1. Check whether that notice is still current before you rely on it.
The other two main car parks are Jubilee and Victoria. Jubilee Car Park, HG1 1DJ, is the closest, about three minutes' walk from Entrance 4 (Hall M), the Royal Hall and Entrance 5 (Hall A). It is free for Blue Badge holders. Victoria Car Park, HG1 5LQ, is next to the railway station and the venue gives about ten minutes' walk to Entrances 4 and 5 and the Royal Hall. West Park Car Park is about twelve minutes' walk away. There is also a 180 space car park on Dragon Road for contractors only, so exhibitors who are building a stand should ask the organiser whether they should use it. For other locations the venue refers people to North Yorkshire Council's car park directory.
For large fairs, the venue says there may be an event specific park and ride or shuttle bus run by the organiser, so check your event's website for it. For electric vehicles, Harrogate Civic Centre, HG1 2AE, is a one minute drive from the centre and has three dedicated rapid charging bays in its lower level car park. The venue gives the charger types as 50 kW DC and 43 kW AC. Exit Kings Road onto St Luke's Avenue and the bays are on your right as you enter the site. We have not listed parking prices, because charges differ by car park and by whether the event is a daytime show or an evening performance. The venue lists its own tariff on its parking page.
The Premier Inn at Springfield Avenue has no on site parking, and says its guests can use HCC Car Park 1 off site at a charge, noting that it is a third party car park not run by Premier Inn. By contrast, the Premier Inn at Hornbeam Park Avenue has free on site parking, and the Travelodge hotels in the centre point guests to public car parks nearby.
Which side of Harrogate Convention Centre to stay on
Harrogate is compact, so almost every hotel in the centre is a short walk from the Convention Centre. The useful way to choose is by what is around the hotel rather than by distance. The venue's accommodation page says it is directly connected to 320 rooms through the integrated Premier Inn and Crowne Plaza, and lists the Harrogate Inn and the Majestic, now a DoubleTree by Hilton, as opposite the centre. That Kings Road and Springfield Avenue side suits you if your priority is the shortest possible walk, particularly with stand materials or in bad weather.
The second area is the town centre, where the venue lists the Old Swan at three minutes, and the Studley Hotel, the Crown Hotel and Travelodge Harrogate at seven minutes each. The venue describes the whole centre as an easy stroll from dozens of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops, so this side is a matter of preference. The Travelodge Harrogate in The Ginnel says the International Conference Centre is a five minute walk away, a different name and a slightly different time from the venue's own figure of seven minutes, so allow for both.
The third is further out. The venue lists Hotel Du Vin at 11 minutes, the West Park Hotel at 14 minutes, and Travelodge West Park and Cedar Court at 15 minutes. These add a longer walk each way. For rail, the Premier Inn at Springfield Avenue lists Harrogate Railway Station at 0.5 miles, and Victoria Car Park is next to the station.
Out of town, the Premier Inn at Hornbeam Park Avenue is next to Hornbeam Park railway station, which its page puts 200 yards away, and it has free parking. Rudding Park is listed by the venue at 13 minutes by car, with no walking time. These work if you are driving and want parking included, but they are not a stroll to the exhibition halls.
Budget hotel brands near Harrogate Convention Centre: what we could confirm
The cheapest place to start is the budget chains, and Harrogate has a few close by. We have not quoted prices because they change with the exhibition calendar. Book early if your dates match a major fair.
Premier Inn Harrogate Town Centre is on Springfield Avenue, HG1 2HY, and its page describes it as next to Harrogate Convention Centre and the Royal Hall. The venue lists it two minutes from the centre and as one of the two integrated hotels. It has no on site parking; the hotel points guests to HCC Car Park 1 at a charge. The same page lists Harrogate Railway Station at 0.5 miles.
Travelodge Harrogate is at The Ginnel, HG1 2RB, and the venue lists it seven minutes' walk from the centre. The hotel page says chargeable parking is nearby at the Montpellier Car Park and West Park Multi Storey, and that parking is free for Blue Badge holders. Travelodge Harrogate West Park, HG1 1HS, is a bit further out; the venue lists it at 15 minutes' walk, and its page describes it as a short walk from central Harrogate with a nearby chargeable car park.
If you drive, the Premier Inn Harrogate South on Hornbeam Park Avenue, HG2 8RA, has free on site parking according to its page, and Hornbeam Park Station is 200 yards away. It is a separate hotel from the town centre Premier Inn, and its page gives no walking distance to the Convention Centre, so plan on the train or a car. For a team booking, we can arrange rooms on a company invoice, and a custom quote is available.
How close are the hotels to Harrogate Convention Centre on foot?
The venue's own accommodation page is unusually detailed. It says Harrogate has over 2,000 beds within a short walk of the Convention Centre, and it lists many hotels with a walking time from the venue's doors. We have used those venue times for the hotels below. They are the venue's own figures, so treat them as a guide and check the route if you are walking with luggage.
Within about two minutes: Crowne Plaza Harrogate, which the venue lists as connected to the centre; Premier Inn Harrogate, two minutes; and the DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel and Spa, two minutes, with 184 bedrooms and extensive gardens. The venue also lists the Harrogate Inn at five minutes and describes the centre as opposite the Harrogate Inn and the Majestic. Smaller guest houses and bed and breakfasts on Kings Road, such as Scotia House, are also listed as directly opposite or one to a few minutes away.
A little further, still a walk: the Old Swan Hotel at three minutes, the Studley Hotel at seven minutes, Travelodge Harrogate at seven minutes, and the Crown Hotel Harrogate, with 115 guest rooms, at seven minutes. Hotel Du Vin is listed at eleven minutes, the West Park Hotel at fourteen, Travelodge West Park at fifteen and Cedar Court Hotel at fifteen.
Many of the other listings on the page are serviced apartments and guest houses, which can suit longer stays or groups. If you are organising a team, these also help with kitchens and extra bedrooms, but check each listing's own terms. Hotels can be booked through us for a team on a company invoice, and a custom quote is available.
Upmarket hotels near Harrogate Convention Centre: what we could confirm
For a premium stay with the shortest walk, the Crowne Plaza Harrogate is the obvious choice, since the venue says it is directly connected to the Convention Centre. It is listed as a stay for business, pleasure and leisure in the centre of Harrogate. The connection and the walking time come from the venue's own accommodation page.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel and Spa is the other large hotel two minutes from the centre. The venue describes it as sitting in acres of landscaped gardens with 184 bedrooms, a Champagne Bar, a lounge and a spa. The Premier Inn directions mention it as the Majestic Hotel, and say the Premier Inn is on your left just after the entrance to it.
In the town centre, the venue lists the Old Swan Hotel at three minutes and describes it as one of the most famous hotels in Harrogate, with a history going back nearly 200 years. The Studley Hotel is described as a four star boutique hotel next to Valley Gardens with 28 bedrooms. The Crown Hotel Harrogate has 115 guest rooms and 24 hour room service. Hotel Du Vin is listed at 11 minutes' walk.
A larger country house option is Rudding Park, which the venue describes as a privately owned luxury hotel with 90 bedrooms and suites, a spa and two golf courses. It is listed at 13 minutes by car, so it is a drive rather than a walk. If you need rooms for a whole team, we can book on a company invoice and arrange a custom quote.
Eating and evenings near Harrogate Convention Centre
The venue's food and drink page describes dozens of places within an easy walk, from fine dining to award winning fish and chips, with independent places ranging from burgers to traditional Greek cuisine, and a gin distillery in town. Its visitor discount page, which uses a Visitor Discount Card available from the venue, lists a number of partners. Starling Independent Beer and Coffee House is described as a couple of minutes' walk from the centre, with craft beer, specialist coffee and an all day brunch menu.
Other partners on that page include 17 Miles, an independent bar on Cold Bath Road, Paradise Tap and Taco, a bar with Mexican inspired street food, the Elysian cocktail bar and Taverna Harrogate, a family run Greek restaurant that says it is a few metres from the centre. The page also lists the Turkish Baths Harrogate and RHS Garden Harlow Carr. The offers are set by each business, so check the terms before you rely on one.
Inside the venue, catering is run in house under the name Matcham's, named for the architect of the Royal Hall. The Royal Hall has ambulatory and corridor bars, the Auditorium has bars on Levels 4 and 5, and you can order refreshments on your phone and collect from a point. The venue says it is cashless, so bring a card. At large exhibitions, Hall B and Hall C have retail catering outlets.
Harrogate is a spa town and the venue says that makes for a relaxed evening compared with a big city. Many delegates walk from the hall to dinner, so booking a table before a busy exhibition week is wise.
Tips for exhibitors and visitors
Exhibitors should note that all vehicle access at the centre is managed by the venue's in house traffic services team and is pre booked. The venue uses the MobileDock system, and the Traffic and Deliveries page has a guide. Organisers send details of the booking window, so look for your event's vehicle booking email well before build up. Vehicle access is pre booked, so do not turn up without a booking.
The easiest way to pick the right entrance is to read your event's visitor information. Entrances 1, 2 and 3 are served by the underground car park on Springfield Avenue, Entrance 4 is for Hall M, and Entrance 5 is for Hall A. Hall Q has its own entrance. If the show is in the Royal Hall, remember its entrance is separate from the exhibition halls. Security measures such as bag searches may be required for some events, so keep bag size to a minimum and allow extra time on arrival.
If you are visiting for a day show, the nearest car parks are Jubilee and Victoria, with Victoria beside the railway station. Allow time at the end of the day to walk back, and remember each car park has closing times. The venue runs a Visitor Discount Card for food, drink and attractions, available from the venue.
The events calendar is varied. As of our check, the whats on page listed trade fairs and consumer shows such as the Harrogate International Nursery Fair, Thought Bubble Comic Convention, KNIT and STITCH, Harrogate Christmas and Gift, BTME, Harrogate Fashion Week and the Home and Gift Buyers' Festival, alongside a long run of entertainment dates in the Royal Hall and Auditorium. Because trade fairs can fill the town's hotels, book your accommodation as soon as your dates are fixed.
