AERO Friedrichshafen, which the organiser calls the leading show for general aviation, returns to Messe Friedrichshafen on the German shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee) from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 April 2027. It is held every year, and the organiser counted around 37,000 visitors from 88 countries and 860 exhibitors from 50 countries at AERO 2026. The fair is open to trade visitors and end consumers alike, so it draws pilots, aircraft owners, flight schools and enthusiasts as well as exhibitors and buyers, with business aviation, helicopters, gliders and new propulsion all on show. Friedrichshafen is a compact lakeside town and Bodensee Airport sits right beside the fairgrounds, so many visitors spread their search around the lake. The organiser's travel page lists free shuttle buses to the fair from Friedrichshafen's two stations and from the airport, hotel shuttle buses (one ran from Langenargen in 2026), and hourly boats from Konstanz and Romanshorn. This page shows live hotel rates for your dates in Friedrichshafen and around Lake Constance. Your AERO ticket is bought separately from the organiser.

Where should you eat during AERO Friedrichshafen?

Messe Friedrichshafen is about a 10-minute taxi (or the Fakuma shuttle bus) from the town centre and the Lake Constance promenade, where nearly all the good dining sits; once you're downtown everything is walkable along the lakeshore. Book lakeside terraces early in Fakuma week, they fill with exhibitors.

How do you get to AERO Friedrichshafen?

By air

  • Bodensee Airport Friedrichshafen (FDH) is in the immediate vicinity of the fairgrounds, according to Messe Friedrichshafen, and during AERO a free airport shuttle runs to the East entrance every 30 minutes between 9am and 7pm
  • The organiser notes that Air Uniqon flies to Friedrichshafen from Berlin and Hamburg, with early morning and late evening scheduled flights
  • Zurich Airport connects to Friedrichshafen by train, or by train and ferry or catamaran; Messe Friedrichshafen also names Memmingen, Munich and Stuttgart airports as good options
  • Flying your own aircraft or helicopter? Arrivals and departures on fair days need a slot booking: pre-registration opens online in mid February 2027 and registered pilots get the slot booking tool in mid March 2027

By rail, road and lake

  • A free MesseExpress bus (line MX) runs from Friedrichshafen Stadt station and Friedrichshafen Hafen station to the fairgrounds and back
  • From Switzerland the organiser suggests the SBB Basel to Lindau line, or the intercity from Zurich and Winterthur to Konstanz; from Austria, ÖBB trains run via Bregenz and the German interchange station of Lindau
  • A car ferry crosses between Romanshorn in Switzerland and Friedrichshafen every hour, and the catamaran links Friedrichshafen and Konstanz every hour
  • Driving? Electric car charging is offered in car parks East 1, East 2 and West 1 and in front of Hall B1 at €20 per charge including parking, with no reservations; the venue address for navigation is Neue Messe 1, 88046 Friedrichshafen

How do you get around during AERO Friedrichshafen?

Getting to the halls each day

  • The organiser's FAQ calls public transport to AERO possible and highly recommended
  • The free MX shuttle from Friedrichshafen Stadt and Hafen stations is the simplest link from a town centre hotel; city bus line 5 also runs to the fair and stops at the West entrance, but needs a ticket
  • Hotel shuttle buses run during the fair, and the organiser publishes their departure times as a PDF on its travel page; the timetable posted when we checked was for 2026, so look for the 2027 version
  • The organiser lists local taxi firms and car hire companies on its travel page; book a taxi ahead for the busy opening and closing times

Friedrichshafen or around the lake?

  • Friedrichshafen's centre and lakefront are the closest base, with both stations on the free MX shuttle route
  • Langenargen, along the lakeshore, had its own AERO hotel shuttle in 2026, so check the 2027 hotel shuttle timetable before you book there
  • Konstanz is across the lake: the catamaran reaches Friedrichshafen every hour, and the MX shuttle serves Friedrichshafen Hafen station
  • Lindau is the German rail interchange for trains from Austria, a practical base if you arrive by rail from Bregenz or beyond; take the train to Friedrichshafen Stadt and the MX from there

Do you need a visa for AERO Friedrichshafen?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
  • ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
  • Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
  • If you will stay in Switzerland or Austria, or cross the lake from Romanshorn, make sure your visa covers the Schengen Area for the whole trip and allows the entries you need; your AERO ticket is not a visa letter of invitation

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area, and keep it with you on cross-border ferries
  • Your AERO ticket, plus pilot licence and aircraft papers if you are flying in yourself
  • Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the German embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.

  • Opening hours are 9am to 5pm from Wednesday to Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturday
  • The business aviation area (all of Hall A1 and the Business Aviation Dome) is open for two and a half days only, from Wednesday and closing at 2pm on Friday, so plan those visits early in the week
  • An air show is planned for AERO Saturday, so expect Saturday to be the busiest day and book rooms early if you want to stay for it
