Aqua-Fisch, the international fair for angling, fly fishing and aquaristics, returns to Messe Friedrichshafen on the German shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee) from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 March 2027. A meeting point for anglers and aquarists since 1984, now held every year and billed by its organiser as the largest fishing fair in southern Germany, it marks the start of the season for anglers, fly fishers and fish keepers, with rods, tackle, baits, fishing trips, aquariums, plants, ponds and terrarium supplies to buy and try. The 2026 edition, the 32nd, drew 17,700 visitors (16,400 in 2025) to 138 exhibitors. Experts give talks in the angling and aquaristics forums, there are casting and test tanks and hands-on workshops, and for 2027 the aquascaping contest The Art of the PLANTED AQUARIUM comes to the fair for the first time, with some tanks built live in front of visitors. Aqua-Fisch is open to private and trade visitors alike, so it suits a family day out as well as a weekend on a stand. Friedrichshafen is a small lakeside town, so many visitors stay around the lake. This page shows live hotel rates in Friedrichshafen and around Lake Constance; tickets are bought separately from the organiser.

  • From Switzerland, take the SBB line towards Lindau, or the train to Romanshorn and the hourly ferry, or the intercity from Zurich and Winterthur to Konstanz and the catamaran
  • From western Austria, ÖBB trains run via Bregenz and the German interchange station of Lindau; from the rest of Austria the organiser suggests long distance routes via Munich and Ulm
  • Driving? The address for navigation is Neue Messe 1, 88046 Friedrichshafen, reached via the A81, A98 and B31 from the west or the A96 and B31 from the east; the organiser suggests the signed fair diversion routes if there is traffic

How do you get around during Aqua-Fisch?

Getting to the halls

  • The free MesseExpress bus (line MX) runs from Friedrichshafen Stadtbahnhof and Hafenbahnhof (the ferry dock) to the fairgrounds and back, the organiser says, and the city bus operator listed Aqua-Fisch among its MX fairs in 2026
  • City bus line 5 also runs from town to the fair, but a fare applies
  • In 2026 the fair used Halls A7 and B5 and the East foyer; check the hall plan on the organiser's site for 2027
  • Free Wi-Fi covers the grounds (network HotSpot-Messe, no password), and there is a Volksbank cash machine in the East foyer

Friedrichshafen or around the lake?

  • Friedrichshafen's centre and lakefront are the closest base, with both the Stadtbahnhof and the Hafenbahnhof on the free MX route
  • Konstanz is across the lake: the catamaran links it with Friedrichshafen every hour

  • Romanshorn on the Swiss shore has an hourly car ferry to Friedrichshafen, handy for visitors from Switzerland

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
  • ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
  • Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
  • If you will also stay in Switzerland or Austria, or cross the lake from Romanshorn or Konstanz, check that your visa covers the Schengen Area for the whole trip; Switzerland says a Schengen visa is valid there unless stated otherwise on the visa

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area, and keep it with you on cross border ferries
  • Your Aqua-Fisch ticket or exhibitor pass, as a print out or on your phone
  • Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the German embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.
