INTERBOOT, the international water sports fair on the German shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee), returns to Messe Friedrichshafen from Wednesday 22 to Sunday 26 September 2027. It is held every September, and the organiser counted 36,100 visitors at the 2026 edition, with more than 300 exhibitors and represented companies, over 250 boats and around 60,000 m² of exhibition space. It is open to private visitors as well as the trade, so it draws boat buyers, sailors, paddlers, divers and families alongside dealers, boatyards and charter firms. Boats are tried out on the exhibition lake and at the INTERBOOT Marina, which the free MesseExpress shuttle links to the halls, and the diving fair InterDive runs alongside on the same ticket. The organiser says 20 to 30 percent of visitors come from Switzerland, so many people stay around the lake. This page shows live INTERBOOT hotel rates in Friedrichshafen and around Lake Constance; tickets are bought separately from the organiser.

Popular areas for attendees: Friedrichshafen centre and lakefront · Konstanz (by catamaran) · Lindau · Romanshorn, Switzerland (by ferry).

Where should you eat during INTERBOOT?

Messe Friedrichshafen is about a 10-minute taxi (or the Fakuma shuttle bus) from the town centre and the Lake Constance promenade, where nearly all the good dining sits; once you're downtown everything is walkable along the lakeshore. Book lakeside terraces early in Fakuma week, they fill with exhibitors.

How do you get to INTERBOOT?

By air

  • Bodensee Airport Friedrichshafen (FDH) is close to the fairgrounds, according to the organiser
  • The organiser also names Memmingen, Munich and Stuttgart airports as easy options for reaching Messe Friedrichshafen
  • Zurich Airport has good connections to Friedrichshafen by train, or by train and ferry or catamaran, and the organiser notes that most taxi companies offer a shuttle service to Zurich Airport

By rail, road and lake

  • Within Germany, InterRegioExpress (IRE) and RegionalExpress (RE) trains run to Friedrichshafen, plus an hourly ICE or IC connection via Ulm; Flixbus intercity coaches stop at Friedrichshafen Stadt station
  • From Switzerland, the organiser suggests the SBB Basel to Lindau line, the hourly car ferry from Romanshorn to Friedrichshafen, or the intercity from Zurich and Winterthur to Konstanz, which has a direct link to the catamaran
  • From Austria, ÖBB trains run via Bregenz and the German transfer station of Lindau; from further afield the organiser recommends long distance routes via Munich and Ulm
  • Driving? The address for navigation is Neue Messe 1, 88046 Friedrichshafen; from the west the organiser routes you via the A81 and A98 then the B31, and from the east via the A96 towards Lindau, exit Sigmarszell/Friedrichshafen, then the B31

How do you get around during INTERBOOT?

Getting to the halls and the marina

  • The free MesseExpress bus (line MX) runs from Friedrichshafen Stadt station and Friedrichshafen Hafen station (the ferry dock) to the fairgrounds and back; the timetable on the organiser's site when we checked was for 2026
  • City bus line 5 also runs from Friedrichshafen Stadt station to the fair and stops at the West entrance, but a fare applies
  • The INTERBOOT Marina, where boats are tested on the lake, is free to visit and linked to the exhibition grounds at regular intervals by the MX shuttle
  • The organiser lists local taxi firms on its travel page, and a live parking guidance system shows which visitor car parks still have space

Friedrichshafen or around the lake?

  • Friedrichshafen's centre and lakefront are the closest base, with both the town station and the harbour station on the free MX route
  • Konstanz is across the lake: the catamaran links it with Friedrichshafen every hour, and the MX shuttle also serves Friedrichshafen Hafen station
  • Lindau is the German rail interchange for trains from Austria, a practical base if you arrive via Bregenz
  • Romanshorn on the Swiss shore has an hourly car ferry to Friedrichshafen, handy for the many Swiss visitors

Do you need a visa for INTERBOOT?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
  • ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
  • Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
  • If you will stay in Switzerland or Austria, or cross the lake from Romanshorn, make sure your visa covers the Schengen Area for the whole trip and allows the entries you need

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area, and keep it with you on cross border ferries
  • Your INTERBOOT ticket, plus your boating licence if you hope to take the helm on a test drive
  • Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the German embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.

  • In 2026 a cheaper afternoon ticket was sold from 3pm on weekdays and a Last Chance Ticket from 2pm on Sunday, so check whether the same offers return for 2027

  • Your INTERBOOT ticket also gets you into InterDive, the diving fair in Hall B5, during its opening hours
