Arte Fiera, Italy's longest running fair for modern and contemporary art, celebrates its 50th edition at BolognaFiere from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 February 2027, with a preview on Thursday 4 February. Founded in 1974 and organised by BolognaFiere, it fills halls 25 and 26, reached through the Costituzione entrance: historic 20th century art in hall 26, contemporary work and the newest generations in hall 25. The 2026 edition brought together 201 exhibitors, and the organiser reported 50,000 attendances on the public days. For 2027, titled C'è tempo, the new Viaggio in Italia project asks every Main Section gallery to show a work on paper by an Italian artist, alongside five curated sections and a programme of book talks. BolognaFiere is about 4 km from Bologna Centrale, with buses 35 and 38 to the Costituzione entrance, and the Marconi Express links the airport with the station in 7 minutes. Stay in the Fiera District or San Donato for the shortest trip, or in the historic centre for the galleries and exhibitions around the city. This page shows live Arte Fiera hotel rates for your dates. Fair tickets are sold separately by the organiser.

Where should you eat during Arte Fiera?

BolognaFiere is 15 minutes from the medieval center by taxi or bus, and the Fiera district has its own serious dining nearby - but most evenings you'll want the Quadrilatero's food streets and the city's storied trattorias. This is Italy's food capital: book trattorias days ahead during major fairs.

  • Taxi companies listed by BolognaFiere include CO.TA.BO and C.A.T., both bookable by phone or app

By train or car

  • Bologna Centrale handles over 700 regional, intercity and high speed trains a day, with Trenitalia and Italo services from across Italy and Europe, says BolognaFiere
  • From the station, take bus 35 or 38 from Piazzale Medaglie d'Oro, a taxi from the main exit, or walk about 30 minutes from the via Carracci exit, the venue says
  • A BolognaFiere train station opens during high attendance fairs, with trains to and from Bologna Centrale
  • Drivers can use the dedicated BOLOGNA FIERA exit on the A14, or exit 7 of the ring road for the Costituzione entrance and car park

How do you get around during Arte Fiera?

Getting to BolognaFiere

  • Arte Fiera uses the Costituzione entrance and halls 25 and 26, according to the organiser
  • Buses 35 and 38 run from Bologna Centrale to the fair, stopping at the Piazza Costituzione and Viale Aldo Moro entrances; take bus 35 or 39 back to the station
  • Bus 28 runs from the city centre, under 5 km away, and BolognaFiere suggests the Roger app to plan routes and buy tickets
  • BolognaFiere advises checking trambologna.it and tper.it before you travel, as tram construction is diverting some city bus routes

Where to stay for Arte Fiera

  • The Fiera District and San Donato are closest to the halls and suit gallery teams with early starts; check each hotel's position on the map before you book
  • Hotels around Bologna Centrale and Bolognina put the Marconi Express, the trains and buses 35 and 38 on your doorstep
  • The historic centre around Piazza Maggiore is the base for evenings and for the exhibitions and events that ART CITY Bologna, the city's contemporary art programme, has run alongside the fair
  • Arte Fiera falls on a weekend, so hotels fill with both trade and leisure visitors; book early if you want to stay in the centre

Do you need a visa for Arte Fiera?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Italy is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries can visit the Schengen Area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
  • ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through Italy's consulates or their appointed visa centres
  • Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
  • An Arte Fiera ticket is not a letter of invitation; exhibiting galleries that need one for a visa application should ask the organiser well before they apply

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
  • Your fair ticket, or your preview invitation if you have one
  • Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the Italian embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.

  • The organiser had not published 2027 opening hours or ticket prices when we checked, so watch the site or sign up to its newsletter before you plan your days
  • Hall 26 holds the historic 20th century galleries and hall 25 the contemporary and younger galleries, so plan which hall to see first
  • Look out for Viaggio in Italia in the Main Section: every gallery shows one work on paper by an Italian artist, from 20th century masters to new generations
