Automechanika Shanghai fills the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Hongqiao from 2 to 5 December 2026, drawing roughly 253,500 trade visitors to one of the world's largest automotive parts, aftermarket and mobility-supply-chain shows. Organised by Messe Frankfurt, it packs more than 6,000 exhibitors into the NECC's vast four-leaf-clover halls — parts makers, workshop-equipment brands, e-mobility and connectivity suppliers — with buyers arriving from across Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. The venue's location is its own story: NECC sits beside the Hongqiao transport hub, one metro stop from Hongqiao airport and the high-speed railway station, so the hotel stock in Hongqiao, Qingpu and Changning absorbs both exhibitors and the December business-travel baseline, and sells through early. The hotel rates on this page are live and bookable, letting you lock in venue-side accommodation before the pre-show squeeze.

Popular areas for attendees: Hongqiao · Qingpu · Changning.

  • Properties ranked by genuine distance to the NECC and to Metro Line 2, the show's lifeline
  • Live 4 and 5 star rates across Hongqiao, Qingpu and Changning, converted to your currency
  • Free-cancellation options surfaced first, handy while China travel plans and visas firm up
  • Tax invoice generated instantly at booking for corporate reimbursement

Getting there

From SHA (Shanghai Hongqiao)

  • Hongqiao airport adjoins the NECC district: Metro Line 2 from Hongqiao Terminal 2 reaches East Xujing station, at the exhibition centre, in one stop
  • A taxi from the terminal takes about 10-15 minutes and costs roughly CNY 25-40
  • Hongqiao Railway Station is in the same hub, so high-speed rail arrivals from Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou or Guangzhou are minutes from the venue
  • Domestic connections via Hongqiao are usually more convenient than Pudong for this show

From PVG (Shanghai Pudong)

  • Pudong is on the opposite side of the city, about 60 km away; a taxi runs CNY 200-280 and takes 60-100 minutes depending on traffic
  • Metro Line 2 runs the whole way from Pudong airport to East Xujing, but it is a 90-minute-plus ride with a train change at Guanglan Road
  • The Maglev to Longyang Road then Line 2 westbound trims some time but still means over an hour with luggage
  • Most intercontinental flights land at Pudong, so factor the cross-city transfer into arrival-day plans rather than scheduling meetings that evening

Getting around during Automechanika Shanghai

Getting to the NECC daily

  • Metro Line 2 to East Xujing (Xujingdong) station drops you at the complex; entry gates and security queues are longest between 9:00 and 10:00
  • The NECC is one of the largest buildings in the world — halls sit on two levels around a central axis, and crossing between far halls can take 20 minutes, so cluster meetings by hall
  • Didi (China's ride-hail app) works with international cards; pickups at closing time are slow, and walking to a hotel in the Hongqiao hub is often faster
  • Several hotels are attached to or within walking distance of the NECC itself — these are the first to sell out

Around Shanghai

  • Alipay and WeChat Pay both accept foreign cards and are effectively mandatory — many taxis and cafes handle little cash
  • The Shanghai Metro app's QR ticket, or a transport card, covers the metro network; fares are a few yuan per ride
  • December is cold and dry (roughly 3-10°C); the walk from East Xujing station to far halls is partly outdoors, so bring a proper coat
  • Expect Google services to be unreachable without roaming or a VPN configured before arrival; download offline maps and translation tools first

Visa & entry

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • China currently grants 30-day visa-free entry, including for business, to ordinary passport holders from about 50 countries — most EU states, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea among them — with the scheme confirmed through 31 December 2026, which covers this edition
  • The 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit applies to nationals of around 55 countries, including the US, when arriving from and departing to different third countries via designated ports including Shanghai
  • Stay counting starts from midnight after entry; keep evidence of your onward flight within the permitted window

eVisa / visa required

  • US and Indian nationals (among others) need a visa unless using the 240-hour transit route; the appropriate category for the show is the M business visa
  • M visa applications typically require an invitation letter — exhibitors can obtain one via the organiser, and visitors can use registration confirmation plus a company letter
  • Apply through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in your country; processing is usually about a week, longer in the pre-Canton-Fair and year-end rush

Documents to carry

  • Passport with at least six months' validity and blank pages
  • Automechanika Shanghai badge or pre-registration confirmation and business cards — useful at the border and required at the show
  • Hotel confirmation and return ticket; visa-free entrants can be asked to show both

Chinese entry policies are updated frequently; verify the current visa-free list and transit rules with your nearest Chinese embassy before booking.

First time at Automechanika Shanghai?

  • Pre-register online well before travelling — on-site registration for overseas visitors requires passport checks and moves slowly on the opening morning
  • Study the hall plan by product sector in advance; parts, accessories, repair-and-maintenance and e-mobility zones are in different wings of a genuinely enormous building
  • Arrive a day early (Tuesday 1 December) — cross-city transfers from Pudong plus badge collection eat most of an afternoon
  • Hotels physically attached to the NECC and in the Hongqiao hub sell out first; Qingpu and Changning are the fallback rings, still on Line 2 or a short taxi
  • Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay with your international card before you fly — it is the difference between a smooth week and constant friction

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • The final day (Saturday) is much quieter and good for unhurried supplier conversations, though smaller stands start dismantling by mid-afternoon
  • Serious buyers do factory-visit side trips — many exhibitors are within two hours of Shanghai, and the Hongqiao HSR station next door makes day trips to Suzhou or Ningbo suppliers easy
  • Hall food courts queue heavily 12:00-13:00; the hotel and mall dining across the sky-bridge in the Hongqiao hub is faster and better
  • If your schedule is hall-hopping, use the NECC's elevated circular corridor rather than ground level — it is the fastest way around the clover

Automechanika Shanghai travel FAQs

Where should I stay for Automechanika Shanghai?

Hongqiao is the obvious answer — hotels attached to the NECC or around the Hongqiao transport hub put you within one metro stop or a short walk. Qingpu (west of the venue) and Changning (toward the city) are strong alternatives on the Line 2 corridor with more availability and better prices.

How much do hotels cost during Automechanika Shanghai?

Venue-adjacent Hongqiao hotels typically run two to three times their normal rates during the show and sell out weeks ahead. Prices step down noticeably one or two metro stops away, so a 15-minute commute can halve the bill.

How early should I book hotels for Automechanika Shanghai?

Three to six months out for NECC-adjacent properties, earlier if you need multiple rooms as an exhibiting team. December has little leisure competition, so the ring outside Hongqiao stays bookable longer.

Which airport do I fly into for Automechanika Shanghai?

Hongqiao (SHA) if you can — it is one metro stop from the venue — but it mainly serves domestic and short-haul East Asian routes. Most international attendees land at Pudong (PVG) and should budget 60-100 minutes for the cross-city transfer.

Do I need a visa to attend Automechanika Shanghai 2026?

Possibly not: China's 30-day visa-free scheme covers about 50 countries, including most of Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan and South Korea, through the end of 2026. US and Indian passport holders generally need an M business visa or to qualify for the 240-hour visa-free transit.
