Autumn Fair, the UK wholesale trade show for gifts, home and retail products, runs at NEC Birmingham from Sunday 5 to Wednesday 8 September 2027. The organiser reports 800+ exhibitors and 13,000+ buyers, and Glee, the garden and leisure trade show, shares the NEC from 6 to 8 September, so one badge gets you into both on the overlapping days. Autumn Fair is a separate show from Spring Fair, which uses the same venue earlier in the year. For Autumn Fair hotels the key choice is between NEC and airport area stays, where you can walk to the halls, and central Birmingham, about 10 minutes away by train with far more choice for evenings. Solihull and Coventry are also on the line to Birmingham International. This page shows live hotel rates near the NEC for your dates, so you can compare Birmingham accommodation for Autumn Fair independently of the organiser's own hotel portal.

How do you get to Autumn Fair?

From Birmingham Airport (BHX)

  • The free Air-Rail Link connects the airport terminal with Birmingham International station in about 90 seconds
  • From the station, the NEC halls are a short walk, so you can be at the show soon after landing
  • Long-haul visitors landing at London or Manchester airports can continue to Birmingham International by train
  • Taxis are available at the airport, though the Air-Rail Link and a short walk are usually quicker

By rail and road

  • Birmingham International is on the West Coast Main Line, with direct trains from London Euston in about 70 minutes
  • Trains from Birmingham New Street to Birmingham International take about 10 minutes
  • The NEC sits beside the M42 and close to the M6; the organiser says parking in the NEC's standard visitor car parks is free for Autumn Fair, with shuttle buses to the halls
  • Parking spaces cannot be pre-booked, so follow the event signage on arrival

How do you get around during Autumn Fair?

Getting to the NEC each day

  • Hotels on the NEC campus, including those at Resorts World, let you walk to the halls; the organiser puts hotels near Birmingham International station about a 5 minute walk away
  • From central Birmingham, local and intercity trains run frequently from New Street to Birmingham International
  • Solihull and Coventry also have frequent trains to Birmingham International
  • Shuttle buses run from all NEC car parks to the main exhibition halls

Around Birmingham

  • The city centre's Colmore Row, Brindleyplace and the Jewellery Quarter offer most of the restaurants and bars
  • West Midlands Metro trams run through the centre, linking New Street with the Jewellery Quarter and Broad Street
  • Trains from Birmingham International back to New Street run late, but check the last service if you plan a late evening at the NEC
  • Early September is usually mild, but bring a light layer for the walk between the station and the halls

Do you need a visa for Autumn Fair?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • British and Irish citizens do not need a visa or an ETA
  • Most visitors who do not need a visa, including EU, US, Canadian, Australian and Japanese nationals, must hold a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they travel
  • An ETA costs £20, covers multiple visits of up to six months and lasts two years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first
  • Most ETA decisions arrive within minutes in the UK ETA app, but the Home Office advises applying at least three working days before travel; without one, your airline or ferry can refuse boarding

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, Nigeria and Pakistan need a Standard Visitor visa to attend Autumn Fair
  • Apply online on GOV.UK and book a biometrics appointment at a visa application centre; allow several weeks, longer in busy seasons
  • Visitors may attend trade fairs, meetings and conferences, but may not take up paid work or sell goods directly to the public
  • Autumn Fair cannot issue invitation letters, but the organiser says your confirmation email and badge may support an application

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for your whole stay, the same one used for your ETA or visa
  • Your Autumn Fair registration confirmation and hotel booking, in case the Border Force officer asks about your visit
  • A letter from your employer setting out the business purpose of the trip and who is paying for it

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements on GOV.UK before you book.

First time at Autumn Fair?

  • Autumn Fair is strictly trade only: buyers, retail staff and people planning a retail business within 12 months can register free online
  • Your badge is valid on any open day, as often as you like, and it also covers Glee on the days the two shows run together
  • Opening hours are 09:00 to 18:00 from Sunday to Tuesday and 09:00 to 16:00 on Wednesday 8 September
  • Children under 16 are not recommended; if you must bring one, read the organiser's children's policy first
  • Only assistance dogs are allowed at the NEC, and the cloakroom in the Atrium charges per item

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • The organiser warns that NEC hotels fill up quickly in September, so book as soon as your dates are fixed
  • If you plan to cover both Autumn Fair and Glee, Monday to Wednesday is when the two shows overlap
  • A city centre hotel near New Street gives you more restaurants and a short train ride to Birmingham International
