Chemspec Europe, the International Exhibition for Fine and Speciality Chemicals, moves to Messe Basel in Switzerland for its 40th edition on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 May 2027, after two editions in Cologne. Organised by RX, it is a sourcing show for custom synthesis, contract manufacturing, raw materials and intermediates, with a pharma zone for APIs, intermediates, excipients, CDMOs and CROs, a New Exhibitor Zone and a conference programme on the show floor. Visitors come from pharmaceuticals, agriculture, paints and coatings, oil and gas, and personal care, and the 2026 edition drew 4,238 attendees from 60 nations and 454 exhibitors from 28 countries. Admission is for professional and business visitors only. Messe Basel stands on Messeplatz in Kleinbasel, about ten minutes by tram from Basel SBB station and two tram stops from Badischer Bahnhof, so Chemspec Europe hotels around Messeplatz, in the Old Town across the Rhine and near either station all work. How do you get to Chemspec Europe?
From EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL)
- The organiser puts EuroAirport about a 15 minute drive from Messe Basel
- Bus 50 leaves from the terminal forecourt in the arrivals zone of the Swiss sector and runs direct to Basel SBB station every 7 to 10 minutes from 04:30 to midnight, about 20 minutes, according to EuroAirport
- From Basel SBB, tram 1 or 2 runs to the Messeplatz stop in around 10 minutes, the organiser says
- Messe Basel says hotel guests receive a BaselCard at check-in, giving free public transport in Basel and the surrounding area, the EuroAirport included, for the whole stay
From Zurich Airport, by rail or by car
- Zurich Airport (ZRH) is the alternative gateway, with direct trains to Basel taking just over an hour, the organiser says
- Basel Badischer Bahnhof is the closest main station to Messe Basel, two tram stops away on line 2 or 6; Basel SBB/SNCF is the main station for national and international trains
- Messe Basel is reached from the A2 motorway via the Messe exit, and the organiser lists an on site parking garage with 1,200 spaces
- Another event at the same venue reported in late 2026 that the former Messe car park was closed for construction work, so check parking before you drive

Getting to Messe Basel each day
- The organiser's venue page gives opening hours of 10:00 to 18:00 on Monday 24 May and 09:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday 25 May 2027; its help page lists 09:00 to 17:00 on both days, so check before you plan an early meeting
- Trams 1 and 2 from Basel SBB/SNCF and trams 2 and 6 from Badischer Bahnhof stop at Messeplatz, right by the halls
- Messe Basel says it is a five to ten minute public transport ride from all three main stations: Basel SBB, Basel SNCF and Badischer Bahnhof
- Print your badge at home and bring photo ID: only pre-registered badge holders get in, and the organiser may ask for ID that matches your badge

- Messeplatz and Kleinbasel keep you closest to the halls, which helps with early stand duty
- Messe Basel says the Old Town, shopping streets, museums and parks are easy to reach on foot or within a few minutes by public transport, so Grossbasel across the Rhine works well for evenings

Do you need a visa for Chemspec Europe?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Switzerland is in the Schengen Area but is not a member of the EU; the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) describes it as one of the associated states that apply all the Schengen rules, and EU and EFTA citizens enter with a valid ID card or passport
- Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and many other countries can visit the Schengen Area, Switzerland included, without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- SEM says the Entry/Exit System has been introduced throughout the Schengen area since 12 October 2025, so non EU travellers have their fingerprints and a facial image taken at the external border; allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, is not yet in operation; SEM says no applications are collected at this point
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen (type C) visa, which SEM says is valid for Switzerland and the other Schengen states
- SEM does not issue visas itself: Swiss representations abroad decide on them, and the swiss-visa.ch portal explains how and where to apply
- Under Schengen rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel, and the normal processing time is 15 days
- If your application needs an invitation letter, the organiser asks you to contact the show team; it cannot apply for visas on your behalf

- A passport issued within the last ten years and valid for at least three months after you leave the Schengen area, as SEM requires for short stays
- Your printed Chemspec Europe badge and a photo ID that matches it
