The 2026 edition, its 25th, set records with more than 37,000 trade visitors and 1,136 exhibitors, with participants from 126 nations. Four expert forums run on stages inside the halls, and entry to them is included in the fair ticket. E-world is a trade fair for professional visitors, with paid day and three day tickets bought online through the organiser's ticket shop. From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS)
- Düsseldorf Airport is about a 20 minute drive from Messe Essen, according to the organiser
- On all three fair days an Airport Express Bus runs direct from the arrival level, exit door C, to Messe Essen every 30 minutes between 07:45 and 18:45, taking about 20 minutes; the organiser lists €25 one way and €35 return
- Messe Essen has its own information counter in the middle of the arrivals level of Terminal B
- Essen/Mülheim Airport is about 10 minutes from the fairground by car or taxi, according to Messe Essen
By rail and road
- Essen Hauptbahnhof has more than 120 long distance connections a day, and the U11 reaches Messe Essen in about five minutes
- The organiser offers a Deutsche Bahn event ticket for long distance trains within Germany
- By car, the A52, A3, A40 and A42 lead to Messe Essen; use Norbertstrasse 2, 45131 Essen in your navigation system
- The Park and Ride car park P10 on Lilienthalstrasse, reached from the A52 Essen-Kettwig exit, has regular shuttle buses to the fairground

Getting to the halls each day
- Visitors use the Ost (East), Süd (South) and West entrances; the West Entrance is a two minute walk from the U11 stop Messe West-Süd/Gruga, and the East Entrance is right next to Messe Ost/Grugahalle
- Opening hours are 09:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday and 09:00 to 17:00 on Thursday
- Local tickets in Essen are sold by Ruhrbahn; Messe Essen says the last U11 leaves at 23:30, after which the Ruhrbahn night service runs

Rüttenscheid, the city centre or further out?
- Rüttenscheid is the district around Messe Essen, so it keeps the morning trip short
- The city centre and Hauptbahnhof area have the most hotels and the U11 runs straight to the fair
- The Südviertel lies between the city centre and the fairground
- Bredeney lies south of the fairground, towards Lake Baldeney and Villa Hügel
Do you need a visa for E-world energy & water?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date ahead of time, so check before you fly

- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45, so with a mid February fair, apply in the autumn or early winter
- Messe Essen works with CIBTvisas to handle visa formalities, with service fees shown during the application

- A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the last ten years

First time at E-world energy & water?
- Tickets for 2027 are on sale in the organiser's ticket shop: a day ticket is €85 and a three day pass €255, with reduced prices of €42.50 and €127.50, all including VAT
- Pupils and students get a free day ticket, valid on Thursday only, and Thursday is also Career Day for young professionals entering the industry
- If an exhibitor has sent you a voucher, redeem it in the ticket shop to get your ticket
- Only card payment is accepted at the box office, so do not count on paying cash on site
- Entry to the four expert forums in the halls is included in the fair ticket, and the organiser says more than half of the 2026 programme was in English, with the rest interpreted

- Exhibitors: stand assembly runs from Thursday 11 to Monday 15 February 2027, and dismantling from Thursday 18 February at 17:00 until Saturday 20 February at 18:00, so stand teams often need a full week in Essen
- In 2026 the fair filled Halls 1 to 6 and the connecting Galeria, and in 2027 the Resilience Forum is in Hall 7, so leave time to walk between halls and sessions
