The European Coatings Show (ECS), which its organisers call the industry's leading trade fair for paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants and construction chemicals, runs at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg (NürnbergMesse) from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 April 2027, with the ECS Conference from Monday 26 to Wednesday 28 April. It is held every two years and brings together formulators of paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants, raw material and additive producers, construction chemicals makers, laboratory and production equipment suppliers and researchers. The 2025 edition counted around 25,700 trade visitors from 120 countries and 1,215 exhibitors from 46 countries on more than 40,000 square metres, all FKM certified. ECS is purely a trade fair, so nothing is sold at the stands. How do you get to European Coatings Show?
From Nuremberg Airport (NUE)
- Take the U2 from the Airport station towards Nürnberg Röthenbach and change at the Central Station to the U1 towards Langwasser Süd; the organisers put the total at around 25 minutes to the Messe station
- A taxi from the airport to the Exhibition Centre takes about 25 minutes, according to the organisers
- Car hire desks at the airport include Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Sixt
- For transport services with specially equipped vehicles for people with disabilities, the organisers point to Nuremberg's central taxi station on +49 911 19410
By rail and road
- From Nuremberg Central Station the U1 towards Langwasser Süd reaches the Exhibition Centre in eight minutes
- The organisers point to Deutsche Bahn event offers for train journeys within Germany, with fares from €16.19
- By car, the venue has fast links to the A3, A6, A9 and A73; enter Karl-Schönleben-Strasse or the special destination Messe in your navigation system
- NürnbergMesse has around 14,000 parking spaces; parking costs €16 a day with tickets sold on site, disabled parking is next to the entrances, and electric cars can be charged in three areas
How do you get around during European Coatings Show?
Getting to the Exhibition Centre each day
- Your fair ticket includes a VGN KombiTicket for public transport in fare zones 100 and 200 (Nuremberg, Fürth, Stein, Oberasbach and Zirndorf)
- The KombiTicket covers all VGN transport in those zones, but not IC, EC or ICE trains or 1st class
- Exhibition hours are 09:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday and 09:00 to 17:00 on Thursday; exhibitors can enter from 08:00
- The ECS Conference runs over two and a half days from Monday 26 to Wednesday 28 April 2027 in Nuremberg
Langwasser, the Old Town or Fürth?
- Hotels in Langwasser, near the fairground, keep the morning trip shortest
- The Old Town and the Central Station area have more hotels and restaurants, and the U1 runs straight from the Central Station to the Messe
- Fürth is inside the KombiTicket fare zones, so a hotel there still gives you public transport on fair days
- The Dutzendteich lake, with walks and a beer garden, is right next to the exhibition centre, and the former Nazi party rally grounds with their museum are nearby
Do you need a visa for European Coatings Show?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date ahead of time, so check before you fly
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
- The organisers say an invitation letter has generally not been needed for a trade fair visa since July 2013; visitors from Mainland China who still need one have their own form, and exhibitors can request a letter once their stand is confirmed

- ECS is a trade fair for the coatings industry, from formulators of paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants, printing inks and construction chemicals to raw material suppliers and laboratory and production equipment makers; in 2025 the largest visitor groups were paint and coatings formulators and raw material suppliers
- The show is held every two years, so April 2027 is the next chance to meet suppliers in person; in the year between, ECS Reloaded brings selected highlights online
- Conference delegates start on Monday 26 April, a day before the halls open, so book an extra night if you are attending the ECS Conference
- The direct sale of exhibition goods at the stands is not permitted, so plan meetings and follow up orders rather than buying on site
- Visitor tickets were not yet on sale on the official website when we checked; watch european-coatings-show.com or contact the NürnbergMesse visitor service for tickets and registration
Insider tips from repeat attendees
- Exhibitors: assembly runs from Friday 23 to Monday 26 April 2027, 07:00 to 20:00 each day, and dismantling from Thursday 29 April at 17:00 until Saturday 1 May, so stand teams usually need a full week in Nuremberg
- Stand space on which assembly has not started by 15:00 on Monday 26 April can be reallocated by the organisers, so plan your arrival early in the build period
