FACHPACK, the European trade fair for packaging, technology and processing, runs from Tuesday 21 to Thursday 23 September 2027 at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg (NürnbergMesse). It began in Nuremberg in 1979 with 80 exhibitors and around 2,000 visitors, and the 2025 edition drew more than 32,000 visitors from 91 countries and around 1,400 exhibitors from 84 countries, according to the organiser. The fair covers packaging materials and aids, filling and packaging machinery, labelling and marking, packaging printing, palletising and intralogistics, with the 2027 lead theme Transition in Packaging. The organiser says FACHPACK pauses every three years, and the edition before 2027 ran in September 2025, so FACHPACK hotels in Nuremberg are worth booking early. The fairground sits in Langwasser, southeast of the centre, and the U1 reaches it in eight minutes from Nuremberg Central Station, so the Old Town and the station area work well alongside hotels near the Messe. How do you get to FACHPACK?
From Nuremberg Airport (NUE)
- Take the U2 from the Airport station towards Nürnberg Röthenbach and change at the Central Station to the U1 towards Langwasser Süd as far as Messe; the organiser puts the total at around 25 minutes
- A taxi from the airport to the Exhibition Centre takes about 25 minutes, according to the organiser
- There is no organiser shuttle from the airport or the Central Station, because public transport reaches the venue directly
- Car hire desks at the airport include Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Sixt
By rail and road
- From Nuremberg Central Station the U1 towards Langwasser Süd reaches the Exhibition Centre in eight minutes
- NürnbergMesse points to Deutsche Bahn event offers for journeys within Germany, with fares from €16.19
- By car, the venue has fast links to the A3, A6, A9 and A73; enter Karl-Schönleben-Strasse or the special destination Messe in your navigation system
- Parking on site costs €14 a day, a parking guidance system directs you to free spaces, and electric cars can be charged in five areas of the Exhibition Centre
How do you get around during FACHPACK?
Getting to the Exhibition Centre each day
- Your FACHPACK ticket includes a VGN KombiTicket for 2nd class public transport in fare zones 100 and 200 (Nuremberg, Fürth, Stein, Oberasbach and Zirndorf), valid only for the ticket holder
- The KombiTicket covers underground, tram, bus and regional trains, but not IC, EC or ICE trains or 1st class
- The halls open from 09:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 09:00 to 16:00 on Thursday
- Lockers in the Mitte and Ost entrance areas are free to use with a returnable coin deposit, and the coat check takes trolleys and suitcases for €3 each
Langwasser, the Old Town or further out?
- Hotels in Langwasser, near the fairground, keep the morning trip shortest
- The Old Town and the Central Station area have more hotels and restaurants, and the U1 runs straight from the Central Station to the Messe
- Fürth is inside the KombiTicket fare zones, so a hotel there still gives you free public transport on fair days
- The organiser suggests Fürth, Erlangen, Neumarkt or Forchheim for lower hotel prices; outside zones 100 and 200 you need a separate ticket, such as a VGN TagesTicket Plus or the Deutschlandticket
Do you need a visa for FACHPACK?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
- NürnbergMesse no longer issues invitation letters to visitors: a copy of your admission ticket is enough proof, with separate request forms for visitors from mainland China and visa support from Feustel Fairs & Travel for visitors from Türkiye; exhibitors use their stand confirmation, or the invitation letter form in the exhibitor area
Documents to carry
- A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
- Your FACHPACK e-ticket or exhibitor pass, printed or on your phone
- Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa
Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the German embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.
First time at FACHPACK?
- FACHPACK is a trade fair for packaging professionals, but you do not have to prove your industry affiliation to get in, and nothing is sold to end consumers at the stands
- Tickets are sold online only and voucher codes must be redeemed in advance; nothing can be bought or redeemed on site. The organiser says its TicketShop opens in good time before the 2027 fair
- Children up to and including 12 get in free, and students and apprentices from the packaging sector can visit at no charge by contacting the organiser's VisitorService
- A voucher ticket is valid for the whole fair, so you can come back on a second or third day
- The programme includes the PACKBOX expert forum and the INNOVATIONBOX, where exhibitors present new products in short talks; download the 2027 floor plan before you go
Insider tips from repeat attendees
- The halls close at 16:00 on Thursday 23 September, so an evening train or flight home is realistic on the last day
- The organiser works with partner hotels through NürnbergMesse's own booking service; Event Escapes is a separate, independent option, and you book a named hotel directly with us at the rate shown
- Exhibitors cannot dismantle their stands before the official end of the fair, and NürnbergMesse charges €800 if they do, so plan departures for after closing on Thursday
