interlift, the international trade fair for lifts, components and accessories, runs from Tuesday 12 to Friday 15 October 2027 at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg (NürnbergMesse). It is held every two years and was first staged in 1991; for most of its history it was in Augsburg, and 2025 was the first edition in Nuremberg and, the organiser says, the largest ever, with more than 500 exhibitors from 43 countries and over 25,000 visitors from more than 100 countries. For 2027 the fair fills halls 1, 3, 3A, 3C, 4 and 4A, covering lifts, shafts, drives, doors, cars, controls, escalators and platform lifts, with the VFA-Forum lecture programme run by the industry association VFA-Interlift. With most exhibitors coming from abroad, interlift hotels in Nuremberg are worth booking early. The fairground sits in Langwasser, southeast of the centre, and the organiser says the U-Bahn reaches it in eight minutes from the Central Station, so the Old Town and the station area work well alongside hotels near the Messe. How do you get to interlift?
From Nuremberg Airport (NUE)
- Take the U2 from the Airport station towards Nürnberg Röthenbach and change at the Hauptbahnhof to the U1 towards Langwasser Süd as far as Messe; the organiser puts the total at around 25 minutes
- From Messe station it is a few minutes on foot to the MITTE entrance used for interlift, according to the organiser
- A taxi from the airport to the Exhibition Centre takes about 25 minutes, the organiser says, and Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Sixt all have desks at the airport
- The organiser points out direct flights to Nuremberg from across Europe and daily connections through the Amsterdam and Istanbul hubs, and names Turkish Airlines as the official airline of interlift 2027
By rail and road
- The organiser recommends arriving by train: the U-Bahn takes eight minutes from Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof to the Messe
- Deutsche Bahn event fares for interlift start from €16.19, according to the organiser, which says the booking link will appear on its travel page from spring 2027
- By car, the address is Messezentrum 1, 90471 Nürnberg; enter Karl-Schönleben-Straße or the special destination Messe in your navigation system, and follow the Messe signs within the city
- There are electric vehicle charging points on the exhibition grounds
How do you get around during interlift?
Getting to the Exhibition Centre each day
- The organiser says a fair ticket bought online includes a VGN public transport ticket valid on all VGN services in fare zones 100 and 200
- Visitors can enter from 09:00 to 18:00 each day; exhibitors have access from 08:00 to 19:00
- The U1 runs straight from the Hauptbahnhof to Messe, so a hotel near the station or in the Old Town keeps the daily trip simple
- Download the organiser's 2027 hall plan before you go: interlift spreads across six halls, so plan your route between stands
Langwasser, the Old Town or Fürth?
- Hotels in Langwasser, near the fairground, keep the morning trip shortest
- The Old Town and the Central Station area have more hotels and restaurants, close to the Hauptmarkt and the Kaiserburg that the organiser lists among the city's highlights
- Fürth is inside VGN fare zones 100 and 200, so a hotel there is still covered by the public transport ticket that comes with an online fair ticket
- If you travel by motorhome, the organiser lists eight free spaces at the Dutzendteich motorhome site, a 10 minute walk from the Messe (maximum three nights), and the KNAUS Campingpark right by the exhibition grounds
Do you need a visa for interlift?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
- Exhibitors and visitors who need a supporting letter should contact the interlift team at AFAG early; the interlift pages we checked do not describe a visa letter service

- A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
- Your interlift ticket or exhibitor pass, printed or on your phone
- Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

- Buy your ticket online if you can: the organiser says the online ticket includes VGN public transport in fare zones 100 and 200
- The fair is open from 09:00 to 18:00 on all four days, Tuesday to Friday, so a Friday evening departure is realistic
- The VFA-Forum runs talks throughout the four fair days; in 2025 the organiser counted around 2,000 listeners, with talks on regulations and standards among the busiest
- The organiser's 2027 exhibitor and product directory is on its website, so you can map out stand visits before you travel
