The Ideal Home Show, which its organiser calls the UK's biggest home event and which has been inspiring visitors since 1908, returns to Olympia London from Friday 2 to Sunday 11 April 2027. Over ten days it brings more than 600 exhibiting brands together across interiors, home improvement, gardens, smart home and the Eat & Drink Festival, and the organiser reports more than 136,000 visitors each year. It is a public show open to anyone with a ticket, so many visitors come for a day out, while exhibitors and their teams stay in London for the full run. Olympia is in Kensington, west London, with its own station, Kensington (Olympia), right next to the halls. That makes Kensington, Hammersmith, Earl's Court and Shepherd's Bush the most practical areas for Ideal Home Show hotels, and central London works too if you want the West End in the evening. This page shows live hotel rates near Olympia for your dates. Show tickets are bought from the organiser and are separate from your hotel booking.

How do you get to Ideal Home Show?

From London Heathrow (LHR)

  • Heathrow describes the Piccadilly line as the most cost-effective rail route into London: trains stop at all Heathrow terminals and the airport puts the journey to central London at about 50 minutes
  • For Olympia, the venue suggests taking the Piccadilly line to Barons Court or Hammersmith; the organiser puts Barons Court at a 9 minute walk, and Hammersmith at a 5 minute bus ride or 15 minute walk
  • Heathrow says Piccadilly line trains run between 05:00 and 23:30, with the Night Tube running all night on Fridays and Saturdays, though not from Terminal 4
  • Landing late, the N9 night bus runs every 30 minutes from Terminal 5 and Heathrow Central bus station, according to the airport, and the N9 is one of the night routes the organiser lists as stopping near Olympia

By rail, coach and from other airports

  • Kensington (Olympia) station, in London's Zone 2, is next to the venue, with direct trains from Clapham Junction, Balham, East Croydon, Shepherd's Bush, Watford Junction, Milton Keynes Central, Willesden Junction, West Hampstead and Stratford
  • From Clapham Junction, the organiser says trains towards Milton Keynes from Platform 16 reach Kensington (Olympia) in 10 minutes, and London Overground trains from Platform 2 towards Willesden Junction run more often
  • National Express coaches arrive at London Victoria Coach Station; the organiser suggests the District line to West Brompton, then one stop on the London Overground to Kensington (Olympia)
  • The organiser notes that easyBus runs from some London airports to central London, and that groups of three or more can use GroupSave for a third off rail fares

How do you get around during Ideal Home Show?

Public transport to Olympia each day

  • On weekdays, change at West Brompton on the District line, or at Shepherd's Bush on the Central line, for a 2 minute Overground train to Kensington (Olympia)
  • At weekends the District line runs to Kensington (Olympia) only from Earls Court, and the show runs across two weekends, so check before you travel
  • On foot, the organiser puts West Kensington at an 8 minute walk and Barons Court at a 9 minute walk; High Street Kensington is a 4 minute bus ride or 12 minute walk
  • Olympia asks visitors to check the TfL status page for the latest service updates before setting off

Buses, driving and parking

  • Bus routes 9, 23, 27, 28, 49 and 391 stop a very short walk from the venue, with night buses N9, N23, N27 and N28
  • Route 9 runs to Aldwych and route 23 to Westbourne Park, handy if you stay further into central London
  • Parking at Olympia is limited: the venue asks you to pre-book online, pay on the day spaces are first come, first served, and pre-booked cars enter from Blythe Road or Sinclair Road
  • Olympia is inside London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), so check whether your vehicle is charged before you drive in

Do you need a visa for Ideal Home Show?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • British and Irish passport holders do not need an ETA or a visa
  • Most visitors who do not need a visa, including those from Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia, need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they travel
  • An ETA costs £20 and lets you visit the UK for up to six months; apply only through GOV.UK, as other websites may charge more
  • Each person travelling needs their own ETA, including babies and children, and you can apply for other people in your group

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals who are not eligible for an ETA need a Standard Visitor visa to visit the show; check your nationality on GOV.UK
  • A Standard Visitor visa costs £135 for up to six months, and the earliest you can apply is three months before you travel
  • Visiting the show for a day out is tourism; exhibitors staffing a stand should check the GOV.UK rules on permitted business activities, as visitor entry does not cover paid work in the UK

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for your whole stay, the same one you used for your ETA or visa
  • Your Ideal Home Show e-tickets, printed or on your phone, and your hotel booking
  • Return travel details, in case the Border Force officer asks about your visit

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements on GOV.UK before you book.

First time at Ideal Home Show?

  • Everyone needs a ticket except children under 15, who go free with a paying adult; tickets are e-tickets you can print at home or show on your phone
  • General Admission starts from £12, and the VIP ticket adds a goody bag worth up to £75, the VIP Lounge, drinks and cloakroom service
  • Opening hours are 10:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 18:00 at weekends
  • Book online to avoid the queue: tickets are also sold on the door, but all tickets are non-refundable, and moving from a weekday to a weekend ticket costs the difference
  • The organiser says the average visit lasts four hours; Tipsy Workshops are booked separately and you need a show ticket for the same day

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • Individual stallholders are responsible for what they sell, so keep your receipt and the company's contact details for anything you order at the show
  • Goody bags are collected from the Goody Bag station upstairs between 14:00 and 16:00, so plan your day around that window
  • Ramps and lifts serve all the main entrances, but the Grand Hall cloakroom is downstairs and not step-free; the organiser says assistance is available on request
