IMOT, the Internationale Motorrad Ausstellung (International Motorcycle Show), returns to Messe München from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 February 2027 for its 34th edition. It is a public show for riders and anyone thinking of getting on a bike, with the big motorcycle and scooter brands showing the new season's models alongside electric bikes, custom builds, clothing, accessories and motorcycle travel. IMOT began in 1994 and spent many years at the MOC in Munich Freimann before moving to the main exhibition grounds in Riem in 2023; for 2027 it fills halls C3, C4 and C5, with the IMOT Arena for live shows back in hall C3. It runs alongside f.re.e, the travel and leisure fair, and the Münchner Auto Tage, and one ticket covers all three on the day you visit; together they drew more than 130,000 visitors in 2026, according to the organisers. With three busy shows on the grounds that weekend, IMOT Munich hotels are worth booking early. The U2 reaches Messestadt Ost from Munich Central Station in about 20 minutes without changing, so central hotels work as well as those in Messestadt Riem. How do you get to IMOT (Internationale Motorrad Ausstellung)?
From Munich Airport (MUC)
- Messe München is 42 km from Munich Airport, according to Messe München
- S1 and S8 S-Bahn trains leave from below the airport's central area every 10 minutes for the city centre, a ride of 45 to 60 minutes depending on the route; then take the U2 towards Messestadt Ost
- Messe München runs its own airport shuttle bus only during some trade fairs, and we found no shuttle announced for IMOT, so plan on the train or a taxi
- If you take a taxi, ask for the East or North entrance, the two entrances the IMOT organiser names for its halls
By rail and road
- Long distance trains arrive at München Hauptbahnhof (Munich Central Station), where the U2 towards Messestadt Ost reaches the fairground in about 20 minutes without changing
- By car or taxi from the station, Messe München suggests allowing at least 25 minutes more than the U2
- Messe München sits directly on the A94; the IMOT organiser names the Feldkirchen-West (6) and München-Riem (5) exits, and signs on the motorway guide you to the car parks
- Parking costs €12 a day in the open-air car parks and €16 a day in the multi-storey car park, and the IMOT organiser says motorcycles park free in a signed motorcycle area
How do you get around during IMOT (Internationale Motorrad Ausstellung)?
Getting to the halls each day
- Take the U2 to Messestadt Ost; the IMOT organiser says visitors reach the show through the North and East entrances, and the North entrance leads straight into the IMOT halls C3, C4 and C5
- Messe München says its print at home tickets for f.re.e do not include free public transport, and the IMOT pages do not mention transport, so buy an MVV ticket for your journey (fare zone M)
- Doors are open to visitors from 10:00 to 18:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- In 2026 there was also a €6 car park at Am Mitterfeld, outside the grounds, served by a shuttle; check whether it runs again in 2027
Messestadt Riem or central Munich?
- Messestadt Riem is the closest base to the halls, but check each hotel's position on the map, as not every hotel described as near the Messe is within walking distance
- The Hauptbahnhof and the Altstadt are on the U2 line or close to it, so a central hotel still gives you a direct ride to the fairground with Munich's restaurants and beer halls close by in the evening
- Haidhausen, around Ostbahnhof, sits between the city centre and the fairground and is a good middle option
- If you come by motorhome, Messe München runs a motorhome site in the east of the exhibition grounds with showers and supply points, listed at €35 a night; book it online in advance
Do you need a visa for IMOT (Internationale Motorrad Ausstellung)?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
- IMOT is a public show, and the organiser's pages we checked do not describe a visa invitation letter service, so exhibitors who need one should ask the IMOT team early
Documents to carry
- A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
- Your IMOT ticket, printed or saved on your phone, or your exhibitor badge
- Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa
Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the German embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.
First time at IMOT (Internationale Motorrad Ausstellung)?
- IMOT tickets go on sale on the organiser's website from December 2026; buying online costs €3 less per ticket than at the box office on site, and you can show the ticket on your phone
- A ticket is valid for one entry on one day, and on that day it also gets you into f.re.e and the Münchner Auto Tage; you do not have to choose the day in advance
- Ticket bookings cannot be cancelled once completed, so settle your plans before you buy
- Children up to and including 5 get in free: collect their free tickets at the info counters with your own ticket and the children with you. For 2026 the organiser listed day tickets at €17 online for adults, €13 reduced and €8 for ages 6 to 14; check the 2027 prices when sales open
- Dogs are not allowed on the grounds (assistance dogs excepted), but you may bring your own food and soft drinks
Insider tips from repeat attendees
- f.re.e starts two days earlier, on Wednesday 10 February 2027, and runs to Sunday 14 February, so expect demand for hotels near the Messe across the whole week, not just the IMOT weekend
- Exhibitors build on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 February and break down from Sunday evening until 18:00 on Monday 15 February, so stand teams arriving for the build may need hotel nights from Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 February through to Monday 15 February; IMOT can charge €500 if a stand is cleared before the show ends
- In 2026 the IMOT Arena in hall C3 put on freestyle motocross and trial shows, and the IMOT Forum hosted talks on riding technique and motorcycle travel; the organiser says both return for 2027

Can I ride my motorcycle to IMOT?
Yes. The organiser says motorcycles park free in a signed area at Messe München; follow the signs on arrival. Cars pay €12 a day in the open-air car parks or €16 in the multi-storey car park.
Does booking a hotel include an IMOT ticket?
