The SEMA Show is the premier trade event for the automotive specialty-equipment and aftermarket industry, bringing manufacturers, distributors, builders, retailers and media from around the world to Las Vegas each year. It takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), one of the largest exhibition venues in the United States, and spills across the surrounding campus with vehicle displays and demonstrations. For a hotel-booking traveller, Las Vegas is well suited to a big trade show: thousands of hotel rooms line the Strip, most within a short monorail, shuttle or rideshare hop of the LVCC. Staying near the convention center or along the monorail route minimises travel time on busy show mornings. Because SEMA is a trade-only event that overlaps with other large conventions, demand for well-located rooms is intense and rates rise significantly, so booking early and choosing a location with easy LVCC access pays off.

Popular areas for attendees: The Strip · Convention Center District/Westgate · Downtown Las Vegas.

  • The LVCC sits just off the Strip, so a well-placed hotel means a short monorail, shuttle or rideshare trip instead of a long daily commute.
  • SEMA draws well over 100,000 attendees and often overlaps with other conventions, driving strong demand for centrally located rooms.
  • Las Vegas hotel rates climb sharply during major show weeks, so early booking locks in better value before inventory tightens.
  • Choosing a hotel on the monorail line or on a SEMA shuttle route lets you skip Strip traffic and parking hassles.

Getting there

From Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)

  • Harry Reid International (LAS) is only about 10-15 minutes from the LVCC by taxi or rideshare outside peak traffic.
  • Taxis and rideshare (Uber/Lyft) have designated pickup zones at the airport; rideshare is often cheaper for Strip hotels.
  • There is no direct train from the airport, so most visitors use taxi, rideshare, hotel shuttle or the RTC bus.
  • LAS is one of the busiest US airports with extensive domestic and international connections, so most attendees fly in directly.

Getting to the venue on show days

  • The Las Vegas Monorail runs along the east side of the Strip and stops at the Las Vegas Convention Center station beside Central Hall.
  • SEMA arranges morning shuttle buses from many Strip and off-Strip hotels directly to the LVCC.
  • Rideshare and taxis use designated LVCC drop-off lots; allow extra time at open and close when traffic peaks.

Getting around during SEMA Show

Monorail, tram and transit

  • The Las Vegas Monorail links seven stations along the Strip's east side, including the LVCC, with trains every few minutes during conventions.
  • Free trams connect some resort clusters (for example Mandalay Bay-Luxor-Excalibur) on the south Strip.
  • The RTC Deuce bus runs the length of the Strip and to downtown, a budget option though slower in traffic.
  • The free Vegas Loop moves attendees quickly between LVCC halls across the campus.

Taxis and rideshare

  • Taxis and rideshare are plentiful; rideshare pickup points at resorts are sometimes in parking structures, so allow a few extra minutes.
  • Expect surge pricing and queues around the LVCC at show open and close.
  • Walking between adjacent Strip resorts is often faster than driving during peak convention traffic.

Visa & entry

Visa Waiver Program / ESTA

  • Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries can visit the US for business or tourism for up to 90 days with an approved ESTA travel authorization.
  • Apply for ESTA online well before travel and carry a passport that meets US validity and e-passport requirements.
  • ESTA covers attending a trade show as a business visitor, but confirm your activities fall within permitted visitor rules.

B-1/B-2 visitor visa

  • Travellers from countries not in the Visa Waiver Program generally need a B-1 (business) or B-2 (tourist) visa obtained in advance.
  • Visa interviews at US embassies or consulates can require long lead times, so apply early.
  • Bring documentation such as show registration or an invitation if requested at the consulate or on arrival.

Entry rules change; confirm current requirements with the United States embassy or official immigration site before booking travel.

First time at SEMA Show?

  • SEMA is trade-only, so bring business credentials and register in advance; the public cannot buy tickets at the door.
  • The LVCC is huge and spread across multiple halls plus outdoor areas, so plan your route and wear comfortable shoes.
  • Book your hotel and any SEMA shuttle option early, as rooms near the LVCC go fast.
  • Las Vegas is in the desert; carry water and expect big temperature swings between air-conditioned halls and outside.

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • Stay on the monorail line or on a SEMA shuttle route to avoid Strip traffic and parking headaches on show mornings.
  • Use the free Vegas Loop to hop between LVCC halls quickly rather than walking the entire campus.
  • Schedule off-site meetings for early morning or evening, since midday travel across the Strip is slow during convention season.
  • Leave the venue a little before the closing rush to beat the taxi and rideshare surge.

SEMA Show travel FAQs

Where should I stay for SEMA Show?

Hotels near the Las Vegas Convention Center or along the monorail line give the easiest access to the halls. Central Strip resorts served by SEMA shuttles are also popular, balancing show access with dining and nightlife.

How much do hotels cost during SEMA Show?

Rates rise significantly during SEMA week because the show overlaps with other large conventions. Prices depend on location and resort tier, and rooms near the LVCC command a premium, so early booking usually saves money.

How early should I book hotels for SEMA Show?

Book several weeks to a few months ahead. SEMA draws well over 100,000 attendees and well-located rooms sell out early, with rates climbing as the show approaches.

Which airport do I fly into for SEMA Show?

Fly into Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), about 10-15 minutes from the Las Vegas Convention Center. It is a major hub with extensive domestic and international service.

How do I get from the airport to the venue?

Take a taxi or rideshare from LAS to your hotel or directly to the LVCC in around 10-15 minutes. On show days you can also reach the venue via the Las Vegas Monorail or a SEMA shuttle from many hotels.
