Where should you eat during TOC Europe?

The Messe sits right on the edge of the Schanzenviertel, so the best casual and mid-range tables are a 5-10 minute walk out the north exit; for waterfront fine dining around the Binnenalster take the U-Bahn (U1/U3, ~8 min) or a 10-minute taxi. A local fixer keeps client dinners downtown and quick working meals in the Schanze.

How do you get to TOC Europe?

From Hamburg Airport (HAM)

  • The airport is about 10 km from the exhibition grounds and its terminals connect directly to the hvv S-Bahn network
  • For the Central and South entrances, take the S1 to Jungfernstieg and change to the U2 to Messehallen; for the East Entrance, take the S1 to Hauptbahnhof and change to the S2 or S5 to Dammtor (Messe/CCH)
  • Hamburg Messe puts a single ticket at about €4 and a day ticket at about €7 (after 9am) or €9 (all day)
  • A taxi takes about 20 minutes and costs about €30 to €35, according to the venue; FreeNow, Uber and Moia also operate

By rail and road

  • Dammtor mainline station, served by ICE trains, is an 8 minute walk from the East Entrance and about 20 minutes from the Central Entrance
  • From Hamburg Hauptbahnhof it is one stop, about two minutes, on the S2 or S5 to Dammtor
  • Hamburg Messe has up to 3,500 parking spaces; the East and Central underground garages charge €2 an hour, up to €16 a day
  • Drivers from outside Hamburg are advised to use a Park and Ride station, such as Bahrenfeld, and continue by S-Bahn

How do you get around during TOC Europe?

Getting to the halls each day

  • Messehallen on the U2 serves the Central and South entrances, Sternschanze (Messe) on the U3 and S-Bahn the West Entrance, and Dammtor the East Entrance
  • Exhibition hours in 2027 are 10:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday and 10:00 to 15:00 on Thursday, and registration opens daily at 08:30
  • Bring your e-badge on your phone or the registration voucher from your confirmation email to have your badge printed on site
  • The hvv app plans routes and sells tickets, with a 7 percent discount on some single and day tickets according to the venue

St. Pauli, the Neustadt or Dammtor?

  • St. Pauli and the Sternschanze border the fairground, so many hotels there are a short walk from the West and Central entrances
  • The Neustadt and the city centre are one or two U2 stops from Messehallen and have the widest choice of hotels
  • Dammtor and the Congress Center side suit anyone arriving by ICE, with the East Entrance an 8 minute walk away
  • Hotels by the Hauptbahnhof are two minutes from Dammtor on the S-Bahn, handy for early trains home on the last afternoon

Do you need a visa for TOC Europe?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
  • ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date ahead of time, so check before you fly

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
  • Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
  • Hamburg Messe says an invitation letter is generally not needed for a trade fair visa; if a mission asks for one, it can be requested through the Hamburg Messe visa service, usually no earlier than about six months before the event

Documents to carry

  • Your TOC Europe e-badge or registration voucher
  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the last ten years
  • Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the German embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.

First time at TOC Europe?

  • In 2026 a free visitor registration covered the exhibition hall, the TECH TOC theatre and the basic event app, and an Executive Visitor Pass at €615 plus VAT added full conference access, lunch, the evening networking reception and HHLA port tour eligibility; check the 2027 pass types when they are published
  • For 2027 the organiser currently offers a register your interest form for updates; pre-registering once registration opens avoids queues and delays at the entrance
  • TOC Europe is a trade event and anyone under 16 is strictly not admitted at any time
  • The last day closes at 15:00, so an evening flight or train home on Thursday is realistic
  • In 2026 the networking reception was held at Park Café in Planten un Blomen, which the organiser describes as a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Messe

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • In 2026 the HHLA port tour for exhibitors, speakers and Executive Visitor Pass holders ran on the Monday before the show and was fully booked, so book a Monday night if you hope to join a tour
