The UITP Summit, which UITP (the International Association of Public Transport) calls the world's most important public transport event, comes back to Hamburg Messe from Monday 14 to Thursday 17 June 2027, two years after the 2025 edition in the same halls. It brings together operators, authorities, vehicle and rail manufacturers, IT and ticketing suppliers and policy makers for a congress, an exhibition of vehicles, products and services, technical visits and networking events, with Hamburger Hochbahn, MOIA and Hamburg Messe und Congress as local hosts. The Hamburg 2025 edition counted 10,000 participants from more than 100 countries, 401 exhibitors and 373 speakers. Since 2025 the Summit has been held every year, in a different city each time: Dubai in 2026, Hamburg in 2027 and Hong Kong in 2028. The halls sit in the middle of the city between St. Pauli, the Sternschanze, the Neustadt and Dammtor station, and the venue says around 8,000 hotel beds lie within two kilometres. This page shows live Hamburg hotel rates for your dates; Summit passes are sold separately by UITP, from 20 January 2027.

Where should you eat during UITP Summit?

The Messe sits right on the edge of the Schanzenviertel, so the best casual and mid-range tables are a 5-10 minute walk out the north exit; for waterfront fine dining around the Binnenalster take the U-Bahn (U1/U3, ~8 min) or a 10-minute taxi. A local fixer keeps client dinners downtown and quick working meals in the Schanze.

How do you get to UITP Summit?

From Hamburg Airport (HAM)

  • The airport is about 10 km from the exhibition grounds and its terminals connect directly to the hvv S-Bahn network
  • For the Central and South entrances, take the S1 to Jungfernstieg and change to the U2 to Messehallen; for the East Entrance, take the S1 to Hauptbahnhof and change to the S2 or S5 to Dammtor (Messe/CCH)
  • Hamburg Messe puts a single ticket at about EUR 4 and a day ticket at about EUR 7 (after 9am) or EUR 9 (all day)
  • A taxi takes about 20 minutes and costs about EUR 30 to 35, according to the venue; there is no fixed fare

By rail and road

  • Dammtor mainline station, served by ICE trains, is an 8 minute walk from the East Entrance and about 20 minutes from the Central Entrance
  • From Hamburg Hauptbahnhof it is one stop, about two minutes, on the S2 or S5 to Dammtor
  • Hamburg Messe has up to 3,500 parking spaces; the underground garages charge EUR 2 an hour, up to EUR 16 a day
  • Drivers from outside Hamburg are advised to use a Park and Ride station, such as Bahrenfeld, and continue by S-Bahn

How do you get around during UITP Summit?

Getting to the halls each day

  • UITP lists a Public Transport Pass among the inclusions of the Expertise and Exchange passes, so check your pass before you buy local tickets
  • Messehallen on the U2 serves the Central and South entrances, Sternschanze (Messe) on the U3 and S-Bahn the West Entrance, and Dammtor the East Entrance
  • Hamburg's hvv network has one ticket and fare system across all its operators, UITP notes, and the hvv app plans routes and sells tickets
  • Technical visits take Expertise and Exchange pass holders behind the scenes of transport projects in and around Hamburg

St. Pauli, the Neustadt or Dammtor?

  • St. Pauli and the Sternschanze border the fairground, so many hotels there are a short walk from the West and Central entrances
  • The Neustadt and the city centre are one or two U2 stops from Messehallen and have the widest choice of hotels
  • Dammtor and the Congress Center side suit anyone arriving by ICE, with the East Entrance an 8 minute walk away
  • Hotels by the Hauptbahnhof are two minutes from Dammtor on the S-Bahn, handy for early trains home on the last afternoon

Do you need a visa for UITP Summit?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
  • ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
  • Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
  • Hamburg Messe says an invitation letter is generally not needed for a trade fair or business visa; UITP had not published visa guidance for 2027 when we checked, so ask the Summit team if a mission requests one

Documents to carry

  • Your UITP Summit pass confirmation
  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the last ten years
  • Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the German embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.

First time at UITP Summit?

  • Passes go on sale on 20 January 2027; early rates apply until 9 March and prices rise from 10 March 2027
  • There are three passes: Explore (exhibition only, EUR 70 including VAT at the early rate), Expertise (exhibition and congress) and Exchange (adding the networking events, catered sessions and app networking); Expertise and Exchange prices are shown before German VAT
  • All three passes include three days of exhibition access, Expo Sessions and Innovation Guided Tours, while the Opening Ceremony, Welcome Reception and Networking Dinner are for Exchange pass holders
  • Groups of 5 to 9 colleagues from one organisation buying the Exchange pass can get a group rate
  • UITP publishes the full programme in early 2027; study tours run before or after the Summit, have limited places and cost extra

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • Exhibitors: stand space for 2027 is on sale now, priced per square metre for floor space only, with separate rates for heavy exhibits such as rail and road vehicles; the venue can show large vehicles, buses and rail equipment
  • The October 2026 programme overview spans 12 to 20 June 2027, with study tours before and after the Summit days, so delegates joining one may need hotel nights well beyond 14 to 17 June
  • UITP had not named an official hotel partner for 2027 when we checked; Event Escapes is independent and not affiliated with UITP or Hamburg Messe und Congress, and you book a named hotel directly with us at the rate shown
