About the United States Grand Prix

Austin’s home race is a full-blown festival: a purpose-built modern classic of a circuit, headline concerts on the infield stage, and a city that has turned the Grand Prix into one of America’s biggest sporting weekends. COTA in late October is F1 at its most fun.

The 5.513 km Circuit of The Americas was designed as a greatest-hits lap: the dramatic uphill charge to the hairpin at Turn 1, an esses section modelled on Silverstone’s Maggotts-Becketts, a long back straight into the Turn 12 hairpin — the prime overtaking spot — and a tight final sector through the stadium section. The natural elevation (the climb to Turn 1 rises 40 metres) gives grandstands and grass banks excellent sightlines.
