Accor StadiumSeating Guide: Where to Sit & Best Seats

Accor Stadium (Stadium Australia, Sydney Olympic Park) holds around 83,500 for rugby league and hosts the NRL Grand Final and NSW State of Origin, plus rugby union, soccer, cricket, AFL and concerts. Retractable end stands convert between rectangular and oval modes. Halfway-line sideline seats (east/west) give the best balanced view; upper-tier sidelines are the best value.

Configurations

Rectangular — NRL / State of Origin

Primary rugby league setup; retractable north/south end stands move in to enclose the rectangular pitch. Capacity in the low-to-mid 80,000s; NRL Grand Final record 83,833 (2014). Hosts NSW home Origin matches.

Rectangular — Rugby Union / Soccer

Same setup with moveable end stands in. Used for Wanderers (A-League), Socceroos/Matildas, rugby Tests. Front rows of the relocated end stands can have slightly compromised sightlines.

Oval — Cricket / AFL

End stands pulled back to open a full oval. Oval-mode capacity ~81,500, slightly lower as the end stands sit further from the surface.

Concert — end stage

Stage at one end; field becomes GA standing plus reserved floor seating. Seats directly behind the stage are not sold. Sideline bowl and the opposite end are used.

Concert — in the round

Central stage opening 360-degree seating including the normally-killed ends, maximising capacity.

Seating levels explained

Lower Tier (Lower Bowl)

Lower bowl bays, accessed from Level 1 / ground concourse

Closest tier to the surface. Sideline lower bays give the most immersive view; end lower bays sit behind the try lines / goals.

Pros: Closest to the action; best atmosphere and detail; sideline halfway bays are the premier view.

Cons: Front rows can be exposed to weather and have a low, flat sightline; behind-goal lower bays are end-on; premium sideline bays are the priciest.

Premium / Members' Middle Level

Middle level (via Level 3), centred on the halfway line

Elevated middle ring with an ideal balanced sightline. Houses members' reserved seating, premium categories and corporate suite balconies.

Pros: Best overall sightline (elevated but not distant); covered by the roof; lounge/dining access.

Cons: Most expensive general categories; much of the prime middle is restricted to members or hospitality.

Upper Tier (Upper Bowl)

Upper bowl bays, reached from the upper concourses

The large top deck with a wide, panoramic, tactical view, well back and elevated.

Pros: Most budget-friendly; broad panoramic view; fully under the roof except the highest peripheral rows.

Cons: Distant with a steep rake; detail and atmosphere reduced; corner and back-row upper seats are the weakest.

Try-line / behind the goalsLower bays at the northern and southern endsEnd bays put you in line with tries and conversions and close to scoring action.
Best valueUpper tier sideline bays (Levels 5–6) toward the halfway lineCheaper upper-bowl pricing while still on the sideline; strong panoramic view, fully under cover.
Best atmosphere / active supportLower end bays behind the try lines (north/south)Where the loudest fan groups and club general-admission members congregate; away supporters are grouped at one end.
Concert — front (end stage)GA floor / front floor seating facing the stage, plus lower sideline bays nearest the stageFloor standing closest to the stage offers the most direct view; lower bays beside the stage are the most in-demand reserved seats.
Shade / sun avoidance (day events)West sideline bays and any Level 2+ seatingThe sun sets behind the western side, so the west sideline shades earliest; any seat on Level 2+ is under the roof.

Seats to avoid & obstructed views

  • Seats directly behind the stage at end-stage concerts: Not sold / curtained off — no view of the performance.
  • Back-row and corner seats of the upper tier: Furthest from the field, steep angle and corner perspective — the weakest sightlines.
  • Very front rows of the lower bowl: Low, flat sightline; players/sideline staff can block the far side, and these rows are most exposed to sun and rain.
  • Front rows of the relocated north/south end stands (rectangular mode): The retractable-stand design can give a slightly compromised low end-on sightline.
  • Highest peripheral rows at the back of the bowl: The roof does not cover 100% of seats; the absolute back/top rows can be exposed.

Frequently asked questions

What is Accor Stadium's capacity?

Around 83,500 in rectangular (rugby league/soccer) mode and ~81,500 in oval (cricket/AFL) mode. It opened in 1999 with a temporary Olympic capacity of ~110,000+ and was reduced during the 2001–2003 redevelopment, with a further small reduction when a giant LED screen was installed in 2022.

Which seats are under cover and which are exposed?

Both long sidelines (east and west) are well covered by the two arched roofs; the north and south ends have less coverage. As a rule, anything on Level 2 or above is under the roof, while the very front rows of the lower bowl and the highest peripheral back rows can be exposed.

Which side gets the sun and where is the shade?

The sun sets behind the western side, so the western sideline falls into shade earliest while the eastern sideline stays sunny until late. For day events choose the west sideline or any Level 2+ seat.

Where are the best seats for an NRL match or State of Origin?

Lower or middle-level sideline bays on the halfway line (east or west) give the best balanced view. Behind-the-goal lower end bays are best for atmosphere; upper-tier sideline seats toward halfway are the best value.

How does seating work for concerts?

Most concerts use an end-stage layout: stage at one end, field as GA standing plus reserved floor seating, and seats directly behind the stage are not sold. GA floor closest to the stage is the most direct; sideline bowl seats facing the stage give an elevated, covered view. Some tours use in-the-round.

How do the levels and seat numbers work?

The stadium has six levels. Level 1 serves the lower bowl, Level 3 the premium/members and suite/box level, and Levels 5–6 the upper bowl. Bays are numbered sequentially around the field; within a bay, low row numbers are closest to the field.

What premium and members’ seating is available?

Members' Reserve along the east/west sidelines, Private Suites (14/20/40 seats) and Zone Boxes (8/12/16 seats) on Levels 3 and 5, the Platinum Lounge, and official Gold/Silver/Bronze hospitality categories with lounge access.

How do I book accessible seating?

Wheelchair and companion seating is available on multiple levels, served by lifts, ramps and accessible toilets on every level. Book in advance through Ticketek or the stadium accessibility service rather than the standard online seat map.
