It is the UK's trade show for the chemicals, process engineering and formulated products industries, organised by Easyfairs in five show zones: Chemicals Supply, Chemicals Management, Process & Chemical Engineering, Chemical Laboratory and Formulated Product Manufacturer, with a free conference programme alongside. The 2026 edition drew 5,200 attendees and more than 600 exhibitors. Entry is free for professionals aged 18 and over. The NEC sits outside the city, next to Birmingham International station and Birmingham Airport, so the choice for CHEMUK hotels is between the hotels on the NEC campus and a base in central Birmingham, Solihull or Coventry with a short train ride in. How do you get to CHEMUK?

From Birmingham Airport (BHX)

  • The free Air-Rail Link runs from the upper level of Terminal 1 to Birmingham International station; the NEC and the organiser say it runs every two minutes and takes 90 seconds
  • From the station, head straight through to the NEC, which the venue puts a five minute walk from Birmingham International
  • The organiser lists direct flights to Birmingham from Aberdeen, Belfast City, Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and from European hubs such as Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and Zurich, plus Dubai, Doha and Delhi
  • The NEC says over 120 National Express and Megabus coach services a day run to Birmingham Airport from across the UK

By rail and road

  • Birmingham International is next to the NEC; London Northwestern Railway runs direct trains there from London, Milton Keynes and Northampton, according to the NEC
  • If your train does not stop at Birmingham International, change at Birmingham New Street
  • By car, the organiser says to put B40 1NT in your sat nav, then stop following it on site and look for CHEMUK on the NEC signs
  • From the car park, take the free shuttle bus or walk along the signposted footpaths; the organiser recommends pre-booking parking on the NEC website, or you can pay on the day

How do you get around during CHEMUK?

Getting to the NEC each day

  • The NEC says the Hilton and Crowne Plaza hotels on its campus, and the four star Genting Hotel, are a short walk from the halls
  • From central Birmingham, Solihull or Coventry, take the train to Birmingham International and walk through to the NEC and Hall 5
  • TOA taxis wait at the ranks outside the NEC's main entrances and drop off at the Piazza or the Atrium entrance; Veezu is the venue's private hire partner
  • If you plan to drive, follow the CHEMUK signs on arrival rather than your sat nav, as the venue postcode does not take you to your car park

Around Birmingham

  • The NEC campus has bars and restaurants, and Resorts World adds outlet shopping and a Cineworld with an IMAX screen for a quiet evening after a show day
  • Central Birmingham has the widest choice of hotels and restaurants, a short train ride from Birmingham International via New Street
  • Check the last train back from Birmingham International if you plan a late dinner in the city
  • Solihull and Coventry both have trains to Birmingham International and are worth a look if the campus hotels are full

Do you need a visa for CHEMUK?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • British and Irish passport holders do not need an ETA or a visa
  • Most visitors who do not need a visa, including those from Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia, need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they travel
  • An ETA costs £20 and lets you visit the UK for up to six months; apply only through GOV.UK or the official UK ETA app
  • Each person travelling needs their own ETA, including babies and children

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals who are not eligible for an ETA need a Standard Visitor visa to attend CHEMUK; check your nationality on GOV.UK
  • A Standard Visitor visa costs £135 for up to six months, and the earliest you can apply is three months before you travel
  • GOV.UK allows visitors to attend trade fairs to promote their business, but you cannot sell things at a trade fair or do paid work for a UK client

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for your whole stay, the same one you used for your ETA or visa
  • Your CHEMUK visitor badge confirmation and your hotel booking
  • A letter from your employer setting out the business purpose of the trip, in case the Border Force officer asks

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements on GOV.UK before you book.

First time at CHEMUK?

  • Visitor registration for 2027 had not opened when we checked; register your interest on the organiser's site to get an alert when it does, and the free visitor badge gives you the exhibition and most of the show's content
  • CHEMUK is open to visitors aged 18 and over, so do not plan to bring younger family members or students under 18
  • Coming with colleagues? The organiser has offered a team registration form, where it registers everyone and sends the two day badges for you
  • Thursday closes at 16:00, an hour earlier than Wednesday, so book last day meetings for the morning
  • Use the CHEMUK app and its matchmaking tool to see who is attending and pre-book meetings before you travel

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • With five show zones in one hall, check the floor plan before you go and group your stand visits by zone to save walking
  • The conference is free and runs across both days; the 2026 programme covered regulation, PFAS, decarbonisation and supply chain resilience, so check the timetable and book your hotel around the sessions you want
  • Campus hotels suit exhibitors with early starts; if they are full, Solihull and the city centre are a short train ride away
