R+T, the international trade fair for roller shutters, doors and gates and sun protection, returns to Messe Stuttgart from Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027. It is held every third year, so the 2027 edition is the first since 2024, when 61,155 visitors from 146 countries came to see 1,017 exhibiting companies from 43 countries, according to the organiser, Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH. The product range runs from roller shutters, external Venetian blinds and awnings to insect screens, drives and controls, technical textiles, gates, doors, fences, windows and building automation, and the audience spans sun shading and door specialists, metalworkers, window makers, architects, planners and young professionals. Messe Stuttgart sits right next to Stuttgart Airport on the Filder plateau, so hotels at the Messe and airport cluster are the first to fill, with Möhringen and central Stuttgart linked by the U6 and the S-Bahn. A five day fair that comes round only every three years makes R+T Stuttgart hotels worth booking early. Where should you eat during R+T?
Messe Stuttgart sits beside the airport on the Filder plateau south of the city, with the centre 25-30 minutes by S-Bahn (S2/S3). Swabian wine taverns (Besenwirtschaften and Weinstuben) are the local signature - book ahead for the smaller ones.

How do you get to R+T?
From Stuttgart Airport (STR)
- Messe Stuttgart is right next door to the airport; the organiser says you are just 355 steps from your destination after landing
- The organiser says Stuttgart Airport connects directly to 123 short and long haul destinations in 30 countries
- Taxi ranks and shuttle bus access are right in front of the fair entrances and the ICS congress centre
- The Stuttgart Airport bus terminal also serves regional and long distance buses
By rail and road
- Stuttgart is on the ICE high speed network; the organiser says Paris and Zurich are about three hours away by train
- From Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof, S-Bahn lines S2 and S3 run direct to Airport and Fair in 27 minutes, the organiser says
- DB event offers for fair travel give up to 10 percent off, and BahnCard discounts can be added, according to the organiser
- By car the fairground has direct links to the A8 and B27, with 6,700 parking spaces on site plus the adjoining airport car parks
How do you get around during R+T?
Getting to Messe Stuttgart each day
- The S-Bahn stop is about 200 metres, or an 8 minute walk, from the fair entrance, the organiser says
- Stadtbahn line U6 ends at the Messepiazza, a 6 minute walk from Entrance East, with an extra fair stop at Entrance West
- The Baden-Württemberg-Ticket covers a day of unlimited regional trains, S-Bahn, trams and buses across the state for up to five people travelling together

Messe and airport, Möhringen or the city centre?
- Hotels in the Messe and airport cluster put the halls within walking distance, but there are relatively few of them
- Möhringen is on the U6, which runs straight to the Messepiazza
- Stuttgart-Mitte and the Hauptbahnhof area have the widest choice of hotels and restaurants, 27 minutes from the fair on the S2 or S3
- The organiser counts some 12,000 hotel rooms within 20 kilometres of the fair and 24,000 across the region
Do you need a visa for R+T?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Germany is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- The German Federal Foreign Office lists citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries as needing no visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through German missions or their appointed visa centres
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
- Messe Stuttgart offers a visa invitation letter for R+T visitors and exhibitors, which you can request through the visa service page of the R+T site
Documents to carry
- A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
- Your R+T ticket or exhibitor pass, printed or on your phone; Messe Stuttgart lists an invitation letter, confirmed travel and hotel bookings and health insurance as usual visa documents
- Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

First time at R+T?
- Buy your ticket online in advance: the organiser says ticket machines at the venue add a charge, give no discounts, leave out the public transport option, and queues can be long
- R+T runs for five days, Monday to Friday, so you can plan a shorter visit around the days that suit you
- The exhibitor index for R+T 2027 is already online and updated as companies register, so you can map out stand visits before you travel
- The accompanying programme includes the R+T Innovation Award, special shows, forums and workshops
- Children up to and including five years old may visit free only when accompanied by an adult

- If you drive, the organiser's dynamic parking guidance system points you to the nearest free space among the 6,700 on site, and the Bosch car park sits directly above the motorway
- If you fly out on the last day, the airport terminal is a short walk from the halls, so a Friday evening flight is realistic

Take S-Bahn line S2 or S3 from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof to Airport and Fair, a direct 27 minute ride according to the organiser, then walk about 200 metres to the entrance. Stadtbahn line U6 is an alternative to the Messepiazza.
