SILMO Paris, the international optics and eyewear fair, runs at Paris Nord Villepinte from Friday 24 to Monday 27 September 2027. The 2025 edition welcomed 33,688 professionals, 52% of them from outside France, with more than 900 companies across 75,000 m² of exhibition space. Admission is free for opticians and optical professionals, while manufacturers and other participants pay a fee. Choosing where to stay is a trade off between fair access and evenings: Villepinte and the Roissy CDG area put you closest to the halls, while central Paris near Gare du Nord is a longer RER B ride but better for dinners and showroom appointments in the city. Commute times are not equal, so pick the base that matches your days. Where should you eat during SILMO Paris?

Paris Expo Porte de Versailles sits in the 15th arrondissement, with plenty of honest bistros within walking distance and the Villepinte fairground reachable by RER B to the north. Reserve dinner tables; many good kitchens serve only one seating.

How do you get to SILMO Paris?

From CDG (Paris Charles de Gaulle)

  • RER B runs from both airport terminals to Parc des Expositions station, two stops and roughly 10 minutes; the station is directly opposite the exhibition centre entrance
  • A taxi from CDG takes 15-20 minutes off peak; the trip is metered, as the fixed city fares only apply to central Paris, not Villepinte
  • Check the platform boards before boarding the RER B: some airport services run express and skip Parc des Expositions
  • Uber and Bolt operate at CDG, but on busy fair mornings the RER is usually faster than the airport pickup queues

From central Paris and Gare du Nord

  • RER B northbound from Gare du Nord, Châtelet-Les Halles or Denfert-Rochereau reaches Parc des Expositions in about 25-30 minutes
  • Île-de-France uses a flat 2.50 euro train and metro fare region wide; load tickets on a Navigo Easy card or your phone
  • Eurostar arrivals at Gare du Nord can reach the venue in about half an hour without changing lines
  • Driving is not worth it: the A1 and A104 around Villepinte jam badly on show mornings and on site parking fills early

How do you get around during SILMO Paris?

Getting to Paris Nord Villepinte daily

  • RER B is the only rail link: trains between 8:30 and 10:00 are packed, so travel early if you have morning meetings
  • The station sits directly at the entrance plaza; from train door to badge scan is usually under 10 minutes outside the peak crush
  • At the 6:30 pm close expect long ride hail queues and surge pricing; many visitors ride the RER two stops to CDG and pick up a taxi there
  • The halls are numbered along one long axis, so allow time to walk between halls when planning back to back stand meetings

Around Paris

  • A Navigo Easy card or the Île-de-France Mobilités app covers metro, RER, tram and bus at the flat 2.50 euro rail fare; airport station journeys cost more
  • Licensed G7 taxis can be booked by app and are plentiful at mainline stations, though evening traffic near Gare du Nord is slow
  • Late September is a busy time for Paris restaurants, so book client dinners ahead
  • If you stay near CDG, note the RER B stops running around midnight; late dinners in the city need a taxi budget back

Do you need a visa for SILMO Paris?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Citizens of around 60 countries (including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, the UAE and most of Latin America) enter France visa free for up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • All visa free visitors are registered biometrically under the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) at the border, so allow extra time on first entry
  • Check shortly before you travel whether the EU's ETIAS pre-travel authorisation has started for visa exempt nationals

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of China, India, South Africa, Turkey, and most of Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia need a short stay Schengen (type C) visa before travel
  • Apply through France-Visas and the local visa centre (TLScontact or VFS); appointments in peak months can take weeks, and applications open up to six months before travel
  • SILMO provides an official invitation letter form when you request your visitor badge online; exhibitors find it in their exhibitor area

Documents to carry

  • Passport valid at least three months beyond your departure from the Schengen area and issued within the last ten years
  • Your SILMO badge confirmation, plus any invitation letter from an exhibitor or the organiser
  • Proof of accommodation and a return or onward ticket: border officers can ask for both even from visa free travellers

Entry rules change frequently; confirm current requirements with the French embassy or the official France-Visas portal before booking.

First time at SILMO Paris?

  • SILMO opens Friday to Monday from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, and one badge covers all four days
  • Visitor registration was not yet open when we checked; register your interest on the official site and request your badge online once it opens
  • Use the cloakroom on site if you arrive with luggage on your travel day
  • International visitors have a dedicated service and rest area called Club International
  • Plan your route by hall and book key brand appointments before you arrive

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • Stay near Villepinte or CDG if your days are all about the halls; stay in central Paris if your evenings are full of dinners and showroom visits
  • Travel to the fair before 8:30 am to beat the busiest RER B trains
  • The weekend days and Monday can feel different on the floor, so ask exhibitors when their buyers are busiest
  • The organiser lists partner hotels at preferential rates; we are independent and not affiliated with SILMO, and show a wider range of hotels near the venue and in Paris
