About Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links
Opened in December 2004 to instant global acclaim, Barnbougle Dunes was designed by Tom Doak and Australian Mike Clayton across a strip of towering dunes overlooking Bass Strait. It proved that a remote, unheralded corner of Tasmania could produce a world-top-tier links, and it kick-started the destination-golf boom that later added the neighbouring Lost Farm. The course is firm, fast and hugely exposed to the wind, with wide fairways, wild contours and the celebrated short par-3 7th, 'Tom's Little Devil'. Crucially, it has no members and no airs: it is a pay-and-play links open to every visitor, year-round.

The par-3 7th, 'Tom's Little Devil', is barely 100 metres to a tiny upturned green — voted Australia's best par 3 and rated by Doak among the finest holes he has built. The beach-hugging holes along Bass Strait make the whole outward stretch a highlight.

Best time to play
The links plays year-round; October to April (spring–autumn) brings the warmest, driest weather and firm, fast turf, while the cooler May–September months are cheaper and quieter but breezier. Wind is part of the challenge in any season.
Dress code
Neat, smart-casual golf attire; collared shirts are standard and soft spikes required. The dress code is relaxed but tidy — no beachwear on course.
Good to know
The Dunes is very walkable and best experienced on foot; buggies, caddies and club hire are all available. Allow around 4 hours, bring a windproof layer for the exposed Bass Strait holes, and consider an all-day rate to play 36 holes across the Dunes and Lost Farm.
