Can I play Cape Wickham Links?
Yes — Cape Wickham is a public course and any visitor can book and play; there is no membership barrier. Because it sits in a remote spot at the northern tip of King Island, tee times are arranged directly with the course and paired with island travel and lodging. Both international and interstate visitors are welcome, at different rates.
How to book: Book by contacting the course directly (email is best) to lock in tee times around your King Island travel dates; on-site retreat accommodation and packages are available. Because access requires a flight or ferry to the island, plan and reserve well ahead. Group cancellation policies apply — small groups get a full refund with 30 days' notice, larger groups 60 days.
About Cape Wickham Links
Opened in 2015 and designed by Mike DeVries with Australian golf writer Darius Oliver, Cape Wickham Links occupies a spectacular headland at the northern tip of King Island in Bass Strait. Nine of its holes straddle the coastline, with fairways running along beaches and clifftops around the 19th-century Cape Wickham lighthouse, and it rocketed straight into world and Australian top-course rankings on debut. Built wide to cope with the relentless Roaring Forties wind, it rewards bold, strategic play and delivers a finishing hole — the beach-hugging 18th — regarded as one of the best in golf. Despite its fame and remoteness, it is a public course any traveller can play as part of a King Island adventure.
Signature hole
The closing par-4 18th sweeps down to and along Victoria Cove beach beneath the towering Cape Wickham lighthouse — a genuinely world-class finishing hole. The clifftop and coastal holes on the back nine, wrapping the headland, are the course's signature stretch.

Best time to play
The peak season runs roughly September to May, with the warmest, longest days over the southern summer; the June–August winter is cheaper and quieter but colder and wetter. Wind off the Roaring Forties is a constant, so the course is built wide to accommodate it.
Dress code
Smart-casual golf attire with collared shirts and soft spikes; the tone is relaxed but appropriate golf wear, not beach clothing.
Good to know
The links is walkable but hilly and exposed; buggies and club hire are available and worth considering given the coastal terrain and wind. Allow around 4.5 hours, pack proper wind and rain layers, and treat the trip as a full King Island escape rather than a quick round.
