About Philips Stadion

Philips Stadion is a tight, fully enclosed bowl built for noise. The Zuidtribune (South Stand) is the two-tier main stand rebuilt in 1988, holding the dugouts, players' tunnel, changing rooms, VIP seating behind glass and the bulk of the business/Gold hospitality along the halfway line. Opposite is the Noordtribune (North Stand); the visiting supporters sit in its north-west corner in section MM (split into two segregated blocks of about 800). Behind one goal, the Oosttribune (East Stand) is the fanatical end - sections U to Z in the first ring are official atmosphere sections where standing in front of your seat is tolerated, and this is the loudest, most colourful part of the ground. Behind the other goal, the Westtribune (West Stand) is the members' and family end, home to the Family Corner (section UU) and the youth-only Jongerenrang (section ZZ). For the best view aim for the upper tiers of the South or North longsides around the halfway line; for atmosphere, the East Stand. Concert use centres on Guus Meeuwis's near-annual shows.

A compact, steep, English-style ground where the four stands were progressively rebuilt (1988-1996) and the corners closed off in 2000-2001 to create a fully enclosed bowl with no athletics track. The stands rise sharply and sit remarkably close to the pitch, and combined with the closed corners this produces one of the most intense, contained atmospheres in the Netherlands.

How the venue is set up

Eredivisie / domestic football

Full ~35,000 enclosed bowl. Fanatical home support in the Oosttribune (East, sections U-Z); away fans in section MM in the north-west corner; family and members in the Westtribune.

UEFA Champions League / European nights

Same bowl under UEFA branding (referred to as PSV Stadion); the closed corners and steep stands make European nights especially loud. Away allocation sits in the segregated MM corner.

Netherlands national team (occasional)

Occasionally hosts Oranje internationals and youth/women's fixtures using the standard seating map.

Concerts (stadium shows)

Guus Meeuwis has performed his 'Groots met een zachte G' shows here almost every year since 2006, with occasional other acts. For an end stage, the long South/North sides give the best sightlines; seats behind the stage are not used.

Cons: Shares its north-west corner with the segregated away section; some corner/roof-line seats carry restricted views.

Oosttribune (East Stand)First-ring atmosphere sections U, V, W, X, Y, Z; upper sections behind

The behind-goal home end and heart of PSV's support. The first-ring sections U-Z are designated atmosphere sections where fans are permitted to stand in front of their seats, producing flags, banners and continuous singing.

Pros: By far the best atmosphere in the ground; steep and close to the goal; the colourful, standing home core.

Cons: A standing/singing environment rather than a relaxed seated view; behind-goal angle flattens far-end play, and back-ring corners can have roof-restricted views.

Westtribune (West Stand)Family Corner section UU; Jongerenrang (youth up to 17) section ZZ; members' seating

The behind-goal end opposite the fanatical East Stand, home to PSV members and families. It contains the Family Corner (section UU, for children up to 14 with an accompanying adult) and the youth-only Jongerenrang (section ZZ, up to age 17).

Pros: Relaxed, family-and-members atmosphere; dedicated family and youth sections; behind-goal view of the action.

Cons: Quieter, away from the main atmosphere; a few sections near the roof supports carry limited-view seats.

Public catering points around the Philips Stadion concentrate on quick Dutch matchday staples: PSV and caterer Top Events run a streamlined menu built around broodje kipsaté, hete kip, bal uit jus and kroketten (including a vegetarian version), plus shareable buckets of bitterballen, mini spring rolls and chicken wings to keep queues moving. For a different pace, the Japanese restaurant Ikigai on the stadium's fourth floor overlooks the pitch and opens on all PSV home matchdays.

Transport

The stadium is roughly a 10-minute (about 900 m) walk west from Eindhoven Centraal station, so most fans arrive by train. For big matches and events a temporary Eindhoven Stadion platform opens right by the ground, and away fans are routed via a dedicated footbridge from there. City bus lines 401-403 also serve the stadium directly; driving is discouraged as parking around the Philipsdorp streets is tight.

The area

Set in Philipsdorp in the Strijp district just west of Eindhoven city centre - the historic red-brick workers' district built by the Philips electronics company, whose factories gave both the club and stadium their name. The regenerated Strijp-S creative and cultural quarter, with bars, food halls and event spaces, is close by and makes a natural pre-match base.
