About RAC Arena

RAC Arena, still called Perth Arena by plenty of locals, is Western Australia's main indoor arena: a compact, steep bowl on Wellington Street at the northern edge of the Perth CBD, holding up to 15,000 for a concert, 14,846 for basketball and 13,910 for tennis. It opened in 2012, it has a retractable roof, and its folded facade was drawn from the Eternity puzzle. The seating layout is straightforward. Numbered floor blocks sit on the arena floor for concerts, the 200 level is the lower bowl ring closest to the action (sections 201 to 222), and the 300 and 400 levels sit above it in the upper bowl (301 to 323 and 401 to 407). Because the bowl is small and steeply raked, the difference between the best and worst seat here is smaller than at the eastern states arenas. For an end stage concert the sweet spot is the lower bowl sections closest to the stage, 203 and 215 first, then 204 and 214, which give you a better view than most of the floor. For Perth Wildcats and West Coast Fever games the side on 200 level sections are the pick.

Opened on 10 November 2012 and unmistakable from the street: a folded, angular shell whose geometry was drawn from the Eternity jigsaw puzzle, so no two facades read the same way. Inside it is a compact, steep bowl with a retractable roof, 36 corporate suites and a 680 bay underground car park. Its attendance record is 13,661, set in December 2025. It was the anchor building of the Perth City Link project, which sank the Eastern Railway to stitch the CBD back together with Northbridge.

How the venue is set up

End stage concert

Stage at one end with numbered blocks on the floor in front of it and the bowl wrapped around. Sections behind the stage are removed from sale or sold as restricted view, and the best reserved seats are the lower bowl sections flanking the stage.

Basketball (Perth Wildcats)

Court in the middle of the floor with courtside seating around it. The NBL regular season capacity is capped at 13,000 even though the arena holds 14,846 for basketball. The Wildcats crowd is one of the loudest in the league and the noise holds under the closed roof.

Netball (West Coast Fever)

Court centred on the floor, same bowl layout as basketball. Fever regularly fill the lower bowl, and the side on 200 level sections are the seats to want.

Tennis

A single show court laid on the arena floor for a capacity of 13,910, the layout used for the Hopman Cup from 2013 to 2019 and for exhibition and tour events since.

Cons: The sections directly behind the stage end are the weakest tickets in the ring, and the corners angle sharply. Check where the stage sits before you choose.

300 level (upper bowl)Sections 301 to 323

The main upper ring, steep enough that the row behind clears the row in front cleanly.

Pros: Much cheaper than the lower bowl, and in a bowl this compact the view of the whole stage and lighting rig from a central 300 level seat is genuinely good.

Cons: Steep steps, and the sections that curl around towards the stage lose the face on angle.

400 levelSections 401 to 407

A short run of sections at the very top of the bowl.

Pros: The cheapest tickets on sale, and still inside a small arena rather than a stadium.

Cons: The furthest and highest seats in the building, with the least detail on faces.

Private suites let annually or by event, with their own entry, which is one of the three fully accessible entrances to the building.

Transport

The arena is at 700 Wellington Street on the northern edge of the Perth CBD, a few minutes' walk from Perth station and Perth Underground, and about the same from Yagan Square and the Perth Busport. Free CAT buses run past it, and Northbridge is directly across the City Link. There is a 680 bay car park underneath, with ACROD bays near the Milligan Street car park exit, but on a sold out night the train is faster out.

The area

The northern edge of the Perth CBD, on the seam between the city and Northbridge. Everything is walkable: Yagan Square and the Perth CBD hotels to the south, the bars and restaurants of Northbridge to the north, and Kings Park a short ride west. It is the easiest major Australian arena to walk back to a hotel from.
