About Utilita Arena Newcastle

The North East's premier indoor arena seats around 11,000 for concerts, with a classic 1990s bowl layout of a flat floor, two steep seating decks and a small balcony. It has hosted concerts by David Bowie — its first show — and most major touring acts, along with basketball, ice hockey, darts and boxing.

Utilita Arena Newcastle opened on 18 November 1995, the vision of former Animals star Chas Chandler and his partner Nigel Stanger, who built it at a cost of £10.6 million to bring arena-scale entertainment to the North East. David Bowie played the first concert a month after opening. Designed by the Ogden Corporation and operated by ASM Global's Legends business, it has been known as Newcastle Arena, Telewest Arena, Metro Radio Arena and, since 2019, Utilita Arena Newcastle.

FloorBlocks A–E

Cons: A long way from the stage at the back.

BalconyBlocks 300–302

A small three-block balcony above blocks 208–210, with six rows lettered A to F. The eleven VIP Executive Suites sit behind the balcony.

Cons: Furthest from the stage; six rows only and accessed by lift or stairs.

Accessibility & companion seating

Accessible tickets are booked through the venue's dedicated access line (0191 618 1697) and, for ticketed events, require a free AXS Digital Access Pass or a paid Access Card (£15 for three years), which unlock accessible seating in the AXS.com ticketing system. There is a dedicated Accessible Entrance at the front of the building, level access to the floor, lifts to the upper tier (blocks 200–218), balcony (300–301) and suites, and wheelchairs available to borrow. People using crutches or walking aids are not admitted to a standing floor for crowd-safety reasons, but the venue says it will always try to find an accessible position elsewhere in the arena. Assistance dogs from ADUK member organisations are welcome, an induction loop serves Block 104, and BSL interpretation can be arranged with around six weeks' notice. The venue holds Silver status in Attitude is Everything's Charter of Best Practice for 2024–2026.
