About Utilita Arena Sheffield

Utilita Arena Sheffield is a 13,600-capacity arena, reduced to around 9,300 for ice hockey and around 3,500 in its Steel Hall configuration, and is the home of the Sheffield Steelers and a yearly stop on the Premier League Darts circuit. Its two-tier bowl around a flat floor is split into a Red concourse and a Blue concourse for orientation, and 2025-26 has brought refreshed concourse food outlets, a self-service Boxbar and a new premium tier, The Beat, launching in June 2026 alongside the existing elevated Sky's Edge seats.

Utilita Arena Sheffield opened on 30 May 1991, officially inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II, and was built as the Gymnastics Hall for the 1991 World Student Games at a cost of £34 million. It was designed by HOK Sport with Lister Drew Haines Barrow. It has been known as Sheffield Arena, Hallam FM Arena, Motorpoint Arena Sheffield, FlyDSA Arena and, since 2021, Utilita Arena Sheffield. It is the home of the Sheffield Steelers ice hockey team and has hosted a leg of the Premier League Darts every year since 2007.

How the venue is set up

End-stage concert

The standard concert layout with floor seating or standing facing a stage at one end, with the lower and upper tiers wrapping around the rest of the bowl.

Ice hockey

The floor converts to an ice pad for Sheffield Steelers games, with a capacity of around 9,300.

Steel Hall

A reduced-capacity theatre-style configuration of around 3,500 for smaller shows and events.

Lower TierBlocks 101–120

The lower bowl in blocks 101 to 120, split between the Red concourse (Entrance B side) and the Blue concourse (Entrance C side) to help with orientation.

Pros: Raked seating with clear sightlines over the floor. Corner blocks give near-stage views without the flat-floor risk.

Cons: Central blocks face the stage at a distance.

Upper TierBlocks 201 and above

The upper tier above the lower bowl, with lift access from Entrances B and C.

Pros: Front rows give a full overview of the stage and production. Lift access from the concourses.

Cons: The most distant seats from the stage.

The Sky's Edge

A block of elevated, padded party seats set into the second tier, with QR-code in-seat drinks ordering.

Pros: Padded, elevated seating with a wide view of the bowl and in-seat drinks service, without paying for a full hospitality package.

Access

Accessibility & companion seating

Wheelchair and companion seating sits on concourse level, on the same level as the main walkways with no steps needed, and is positioned near exits and toilet facilities. Free companion tickets are available on production of qualifying evidence such as a DLA/PIP award, Nimbus Access Card or equivalent. There are three sets of accessible toilets on the ground level (Entrances B, C and D) plus four unisex RADAR-locked facilities on the concourse (two Red, two Blue), lifts at ground-floor Entrances B and C, and an external ramp on the Blue side near Entrance C. A Sennheiser Tourguide FM hearing system and ear defenders can be booked in advance, BSL interpreters need six weeks' notice, and assistance dogs are welcome. Concourse outlets are cashless, accepting chip-and-PIN or contactless only. The Hurraah & Whoop stands on the Red and Blue concourses serve hot dogs, vegan hot dogs, nachos and pizzas, while the Cheer & Chuckle stands serve burgers, cheeseburgers, a vegan burger and chips. Gluten-free and vegan options are marked, and the venue has held the top Food Standards Agency hygiene rating every year since the scheme began.

Transport

The arena is beside the Arena/Olive Grove Supertram stop on the Yellow and Blue routes, between Sheffield city centre and Meadowhall. Meadowhall interchange, with rail, tram and bus connections, is a short distance away, and the M1 junction 34 is close by for drivers. Accessible parking is reserved close to the venue, with extra spaces on the Green concourse for ice hockey fixtures.

The arena stands on Broughton Lane in the Attercliffe area, between Sheffield city centre and Rotherham, next to the Valley Centertainment leisure complex of restaurants, cinema and bowling, with Meadowhall shopping centre a short tram ride away.
