3daysofdesign, Copenhagen Design Week and Denmark's Official Design Festival, returns for its 14th edition from Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 June 2027. There is no single venue: the festival fills showrooms, studios, galleries and rooftops across the city, and in 2026 these were grouped into 8 Design Districts, from Nordhavn and Frederiksstaden to Kongens Nytorv, Christianshavn, Holmen and Islands Brygge. The organiser reported as many as 125,000 visitors from more than 140 nationalities in 2026, with 572 exhibitions and 894 events. The festival's focus is furniture and interior design, and it is open to the general public: all events are free, though some talks need booking in advance. Because the programme is spread across the city, the most practical 3daysofdesign hotels are central ones with a quick metro link. Kongens Nytorv, at the heart of the old town, is the only station where all four metro lines meet, and the airport line stops there. This page shows live hotel rates across central Copenhagen for your dates, so you can pick a base close to the districts you plan to visit.

How do you get to 3daysofdesign?

From Copenhagen Airport (CPH)

  • The metro station is at the end of Terminal 3, and the airport says trains run every 4 to 6 minutes by day and in the evening, and every 15 to 20 minutes at night
  • The airport is on metro line M2, which stops at Kongens Nytorv; the metro company says it takes 14 minutes to reach the centre of Copenhagen, and the airport puts the ride to Nørreport at 15 minutes
  • InterCity trains run from Terminal 3, tracks 1 and 2, to Copenhagen city centre, and there are also trains between the airport and Malmö in Sweden
  • Buy your ticket before you board: metro ticket machines take coins and cards but not notes, and the airport warns that you cannot buy tickets on the train

Arriving by rail and leaving again

  • Copenhagen Central Station (København H) is on metro lines M3 and M4 as well as S-trains and regional trains, so you can change there for the festival districts
  • The airport points travellers to Rejseplanen (rejseplanen.dk) to check exact journeys and departure times
  • For your flight home, the airport recommends arriving two hours before departure for flights within the Schengen area and three hours before for other flights at busy times
  • With hand luggage only, you can walk from the metro straight to security over a 100 metre footbridge, according to the airport

How do you get around during 3daysofdesign?

Moving between the Design Districts

  • The organiser suggests walking, renting a bike, taking the bus or metro, or catching a boat between venues
  • Kongens Nytorv is the only station where you can change between all four metro lines, which makes the old town a handy base
  • Nordhavn, Christianshavn and Islands Brygge, all 2026 Design Districts, have their own metro stations
  • The free 3daysofdesign app lists every exhibition on a festival map, and in 2026 staffed i-Points in the districts served as meeting places for information and Design Walks

Planning your days

  • Exhibitions are open from 10:00 to 18:00 during the festival, with a variety of events planned for the evening
  • All events are free, but some design talks and events need booking in advance, and the organiser updates the programme as the festival approaches
  • In 2026 the 8 Design Districts were Islands Brygge, Christianshavn, Holmen, Frederiksstaden, Kongens Nytorv, Rosengård, Nordhavn and Kultur; the 2027 districts had not been announced when we checked
  • Group your visits by district: the organiser describes each district as bringing exhibitions, events and showrooms together in one area to explore at your own pace

Do you need a visa for 3daysofdesign?

Visa-free / visa on arrival

  • Denmark is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
  • Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries can visit the Schengen Area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period
  • Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
  • ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly

eVisa / visa required

  • Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through Danish missions or the visa centres they appoint
  • Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
  • 3daysofdesign is free and has no visitor registration, so there is no festival ticket to show a consulate; exhibitors and press should ask the festival team early if they need a supporting letter

Documents to carry

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
  • Your hotel booking, return travel details and, for business visitors, a letter from your employer or details of the brands you plan to meet
  • Copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

Entry and visa rules change; check current requirements with the Danish embassy or consulate, or official EU sources, before you book.

First time at 3daysofdesign?

  • 3daysofdesign is open to the general public and free: there is no ticket for the showrooms and exhibitions, but book ahead for talks and events marked as bookable
  • Download the 3daysofdesign app before you arrive for the full list of exhibitions and the festival map
  • Exhibitions are open from 10:00 to 18:00 on all three festival days, Wednesday to Friday
  • Plan your route by district rather than trying to see everything: in 2026 there were 572 exhibitions and 894 events across the city
  • Bring comfortable shoes, as the organiser encourages walking and cycling between venues as well as the metro

Insider tips from repeat attendees

  • Evenings are part of the programme: the organiser plans events after the exhibitions close, and the Long Table Dinners introduced in 2026 brought guests together around a shared table
  • The festival began in 2013 in an old Nordhavn warehouse as a joint initiative of four Danish brands, and today it extends across the whole city
  • Brands that want to exhibit should note that 3daysofdesign is curated: applications open online in the autumn and exhibitors must meet the festival's criteria
