Euroanaesthesia, the annual congress of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC), comes to Bella Center Copenhagen from Saturday 29 to Monday 31 May 2027. The congress moves to a different European city each year: it was in Lisbon in 2025 and Rotterdam in 2026, and ESAIC has announced Vienna for 2028. It covers anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, with scientific sessions, e-Poster presentations, hands-on workshops, industry sessions and an exhibition, all in English. The 2025 congress counted 6,674 delegates from 113 countries, 1,320 abstract presentations and 86 participating companies. Euroanaesthesia 2027 is hybrid, so sessions are also streamed to virtual delegates, but e-Poster presenters must attend in person. Bella Center sits in Ørestad, between Copenhagen Airport and the city centre, with its own metro station on line M1; ESAIC puts the airport about 10 minutes away by taxi. How do you get to Euroanaesthesia?
Flying in: Copenhagen Airport (CPH)
- Copenhagen Airport is Denmark's main international airport, and ESAIC says it is just 10 minutes by taxi from Bella Center Copenhagen
- By public transport, ESAIC suggests a regional train one stop from the airport to Ørestad Station, then metro line M1 one stop to Bella Center station
- Metro line M2 links the airport with the city centre if you are staying in town; Copenhagen Airport says you cannot buy tickets on the train, so buy one before you board
- For your flight home, the airport recommends arriving two hours before Schengen flights and three hours before other flights at busy times
By rail and road
- Direct international trains run from Hamburg and from Sweden, including Malmö and Stockholm via the Øresund Bridge, to Copenhagen Central Station (København H), ESAIC says
- Bus line 30 runs between Copenhagen Central Station and Bella Center, according to ESAIC
- Drivers take exit 19, marked Ørestad, from the Airport Motorway (E20); Bella Center has around 1,700 parking spaces on site
- Use Center Boulevard 5, Entrance 4, 2300 København S, the congress address ESAIC gives, for your satnav and taxi
How do you get around during Euroanaesthesia?
Getting to Bella Center each day
- Bella Center metro station on line M1 is next to the venue, and ESAIC puts central Copenhagen around 10 minutes away by metro
- M1 runs about every 2 minutes in the rush hours (07:00 to 09:00 and 14:00 to 18:00) and about every 3 minutes at other times during the day, the metro company says
- All regional trains stop at Ørestad Station, one metro stop from Bella Center, which suits hotels near the main station
- Public transport is not included in the congress fee, so plan your tickets; ESAIC points delegates to DSB, Copenhagen Metro and Rejseplanen for journeys

- Ørestad is the closest area: Bella Center says the AC Hotel Bella Sky is directly connected to the venue, and the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers is nearby in Ørestad
- Islands Brygge is on line M1 between Bella Center and the centre, a quieter base by the harbour
- ESAIC says most of its own partner hotels are in the city centre and well connected with the venue by public transport, which suits delegates who want the city in the evening
- Kastrup, by the airport, works for a short stay with an early flight; check each hotel's position on the map before you book
Do you need a visa for Euroanaesthesia?
Visa-free / visa on arrival
- Denmark is in the Schengen Area; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens travel with a passport or national ID card
- Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries can visit the Schengen Area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period
- Non EU travellers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, with fingerprints and a facial image taken at the border, so allow extra time at passport control
- ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, was not yet in operation when we checked; the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead, so check before you fly
eVisa / visa required
- Nationals of countries such as India, China, South Africa and Türkiye need a Schengen short stay (type C) visa, applied for through Danish missions or the visa centres they appoint
- Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel; standard processing takes 15 days and can be extended to 45
- ESAIC issues an invitation letter with the congress confirmation once your registration fee is paid; it is only for fully registered participants, and does not cover travel or accommodation costs
Documents to carry
- A passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
- Your Euroanaesthesia registration confirmation and photo ID, plus proof of your 2027 ESAIC membership if you registered at a member rate
- Hotel booking and return travel details, plus copies of your visa supporting documents and travel medical insurance if you need a visa

First time at Euroanaesthesia?
- Early registration runs from 11 November 2026 to 17 February 2027; the early in person fee is 581 euros for active and affiliate members and 887 euros for non members, excluding 25 percent Danish VAT, and fees rise after that
- Member rates only apply if your ESAIC membership for 2027 is in place before you register; membership bought afterwards does not give a retroactive reduced fee
- If you present an abstract, you must register for the full three day in person congress by 25 March 2027, or the abstract is withdrawn
- Workshops and simulation sessions need separate pre-registration, places are limited, and they are not included in the congress fee
- The exhibition is open from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, 09:00 to 18:00 on Sunday and 09:00 to 16:00 on Monday; you can also register on site with a daily pass or a three day pass, paid by Visa, Mastercard or cash
