Getting there
From Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
- The Venetian is about 3 miles from the airport; a taxi or rideshare takes 15-25 minutes depending on Strip traffic
- Rideshare pickups are from the terminal parking garages; the Sunday and Monday arrival waves of re:Invent bring long queues and surge pricing
- Taxis to mid-Strip typically cost in the USD 25-35 range; confirm the driver takes the tunnel-free direct route if traffic is light
- There is no direct rail link from the airport, and RTC buses are slow with luggage, so effectively everyone rides
Arriving by road from Southern California and the region
- The I-15 drive from Los Angeles takes four-plus hours and jams badly on the Sunday before the conference
- Hotel parking on the Strip is mostly paid; if you drive, plan to park once and use the campus transport all week
- Some regional attendees fly into LAS via short hops from Phoenix, Salt Lake City or the Bay Area, which are frequent and often cheaper mid-week
- December evening temperatures drop near freezing in the desert, so pack for cold waits at valet and pickup zones
Getting around during AWS re:Invent
Getting around the re:Invent campus daily
- AWS runs an official shuttle network between campus venues during conference hours; it is the default way to jump from the Venetian to MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay
- The Las Vegas Monorail parallels the east side of the Strip, with the Harrah's/The LINQ station across from the Venetian and stops near MGM Grand, useful when shuttle queues spike after keynotes
- Venetian, Wynn and Caesars Forum are within walking distance of each other; Mandalay Bay is not walkable in any practical sense, so cluster your session picks by venue
- Allow 30-45 minutes for any cross-campus move at peak times, and treat back-to-back sessions in different venues as impossible
Around Las Vegas
- Rideshare works well off-peak but surges hard at 18:00 when sessions end and again after re:Play and the big evening events
- A multi-day monorail pass pays for itself if your hotel sits on the line
- Walking the Strip looks feasible on the map but property frontages are enormous; one 'block' can be a 15-minute walk

- Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries, including the UK, most EU states, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, enter with an approved ESTA for stays up to 90 days

- Canadians need neither visa nor ESTA for a conference visit

- Attendees from India, China, Brazil, South Africa and most other non-VWP countries need a B-1/B-2 visitor visa with a consular interview

re:Invent week is one of the priciest conference weeks in Las Vegas; campus hotels often price at several times their quiet-December levels, and remember resort fees are added on top of headline rates. Value improves fast one monorail stop off campus.
How early should I book hotels for re:Invent?
