Full detailAbout Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a 9,525 capacity open air concert venue carved between Creation Rock and Ship Rock in the foothills near Morrison, Colorado, owned and run by the City and County of Denver. The Red Rocks seating map is simple: there are no sections, just 70 curved rows of wooden benches rising from Row 1 at the foot of the stage to Row 70 below the Top Plaza, about 100 feet higher. Rows are widest in the middle of the bowl (the official map marks Row 50 running to seat 153) and narrow towards the front and back. Seating charts vary by event: some shows are reserved by row and seat, others are general admission. There is no roof over the seats, the stage has a roof, and two I-MAG screens beside the stage can be seen from every seat.
Red Rocks is an open air amphitheatre set between two huge sandstone monoliths, Creation Rock to the north and Ship Rock to the south, dropping to Stage Rock behind the stage. Architect Burnham Hoyt designed it to do 'a minimum of architecture', and it was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and dedicated on 15 June 1941. Ledges at the base of Creation Rock forced the builders to move the northern stairway, so the bowl is asymmetrical, with fewer seats on the north side than the south. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2015.

What is the Red Rocks Amphitheatre seating capacity?
The Red Rocks Amphitheatre seating capacity is about 9,525 seats. The number in use changes with the layout, so here is how each set-up works.
Reserved seat concerts
Tickets give a row (1 to 70) and a seat number on the benches. Rows 1 to 4 are non transferable and must be used by the original purchaser, and promoters can extend this further back for some shows.
General admission concerts
For general admission shows the benches are unreserved and first come, first served, so arriving early matters. The venue advises allowing plenty of time, as nearly 10,000 people enter at once.
Film on the Rocks and other events
The summer Film on the Rocks series (since 2000) and the Easter Sunrise Service use the same bowl. Outside event hours the amphitheatre is open to the public as part of Red Rocks Park.
What are the seating levels at Red Rocks Amphitheatre?
Front rowsRows 1-4
The rows closest to the stage. Row 1 (the official map marks it running to seat 86) is the wheelchair accessible row, and Rows 2 and 3 hold limited mobility seats (seats 6 to 13) and seats for guests who are blind, have low vision, or are deaf or hard of hearing (seats 14 to 21). Tickets in Rows 1 to 4 are non transferable.
Pros: As close to the artist as Red Rocks gets, with no steep climb from the stage level entrances.
Cons: Non transferable tickets, and the ends of the front rows look at the stage from a sharp side angle.
Lower rowsRows 5-24
The lower part of the bowl, where the rows widen quickly (Row 24 runs to seat 125 on the official map). The mix area, where the sound desk sits, is in the centre of these rows.
Pros: Close to the stage with enough height to see over the crowd, and the centre seats near the mix area hear the show as the engineers do.
Cons: Seats directly behind the mix area can have the desk in the line of sight, and end seats are side on.
Middle rowsRows 25-50
The widest part of the amphitheatre, with Row 50 running to seat 153 on the official map. From here you see the stage framed by Creation Rock on your left and Ship Rock on your right.
Pros: The classic Red Rocks view of the stage and the rocks together, usually at a lower price than the front.
Cons: A long climb from stage level, and the artist looks smaller without the screens.
Upper rowsRows 51-69
The top of the bowl, narrowing to Row 69 (seat 89 on the official map). The top row sits about 100 feet above the stage and close to the Top Plaza, concessions and the Visitor Center.
Pros: Usually the cheapest seats, with the widest view of the whole setting and the easiest access to food, drink and restrooms on the Top Plaza.
Cons: Furthest from the stage, and at 6,450 feet the climb up and down the stairs is tiring.
Row 70 and the Top PlazaRow 70 (accessible platform, to seat 24)
Row 70 is the wheelchair accessible row at the very top, with folding chairs provided and accessible family restrooms next to it. The Top Circle Lot accessible parking is about 500 feet away, and the Row 71 Bar sits behind the Top Plaza.
Pros: No stairs from the Top Circle Lot, and close to all Top Plaza facilities.
Cons: The furthest row from the stage; sold only as accessible seating with up to three companions.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre view from your seat
Row 1 and the front rows
Rows 1 to 4You are right at the foot of the stage, looking up at the performers. Row 1 is level access for wheelchair users, entered through the Southeast entrance, and the North Concession Stand and South Ramp restrooms are either side of the stage.
Tip: Tickets in Rows 1 to 4 are non transferable, so the original buyer must arrive with the whole party.
Lower centre
Rows 5 to 24, centre seatsClose, raised views straight at the stage, with the mix area in the middle of this part of the bowl. The benches rise steadily, so you see over the rows in front.
Tip: If you want the best sound, aim for seats just around the mix area rather than directly behind it.
Lower ends
Rows 5 to 24, far north and far south seatsAngled views across the stage from near the rock walls. The north side has fewer seats than the south because of the rock ledges at the base of Creation Rock.
Tip: Pick a higher row if you are at the far end, as the angle softens further back.
Middle of the bowl
Rows 25 to 50The widest rows, with the full picture of the stage between Creation Rock on your left and Ship Rock on your right, and Stage Rock behind the stage.
Tip: The two I-MAG screens either side of the stage help from here, although some artists choose not to use them.
Upper rows
Rows 51 to 69High, wide views over the whole amphitheatre and down to the stage about 100 feet below. The rows narrow towards the top.
Tip: Closest to the Top Plaza food stands, restrooms and the Row 71 Bar, so trips out cost you less of the show.
Row 70
Row 70The accessible platform at the very top of the bowl, looking straight down the length of the amphitheatre to the stage.
Tip: Accessible parking in the Top Circle Lot is about 500 feet from Row 70.
How do Red Rocks Amphitheatre seat numbers work?
Red Rocks has no sections. Seats are identified only by row and seat number: rows run from Row 1 at the front, by the stage, to Row 70 at the top, and seats are numbered along each curved bench. On the official Red Rocks Amphitheatre map, Row 1 runs to seat 86, Row 24 to seat 125, Row 50 to seat 153, Row 69 to seat 89 and the Row 70 accessible platform to seat 24, so the middle of the bowl is much wider than the front and back. All seating is on wooden benches with concrete walkways, and your belongings must fit in the 18 by 12 inch space under your seat.
Reading a ticket: Row 50: the widest row, about two thirds of the way up the bowl, with seat numbers running up to 153.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre floor plan for concerts
There is no separate floor at Red Rocks. The stage sits at the bottom of the bowl on the east side, in front of Stage Rock and under a roof, and all 70 rows of benches face it.
The stage: At the foot of the amphitheatre, in front of Row 1, with Creation Rock on the audience's left (north) and Ship Rock on the right (south).
Seating charts vary by event: reserved shows sell a row and seat, general admission shows leave the benches unreserved. Wheelchair accessible seating is only in Row 1 and Row 70 at every show.
