About Michigan Stadium

Michigan Stadium is a single continuous below-ground bowl, numbered in sections 1 to 44 around the field with premium 300 and 400 club levels above the sidelines. The west sideline (roughly sections 20 to 26) is the Michigan bench side and the shade side, tucked under the press box, while the east sideline (1 to 4 and 42 to 44) is the visitor side and takes the afternoon sun. The student section fills the south end, with visiting fans in the upper south end zone. Because it is one deep bowl the best sideline seats sit at midfield and the top rows feel like an upper deck; most seating is backless aluminium bench, with chairbacks only in the west premium area.

The largest stadium in the United States, built as a single continuous bowl modelled on the Yale Bowl with most of the seating below ground level, so it looks deceptively small from outside. It is essentially one deep bank of seating rather than stacked decks, so a single section can climb past 90 rows and the highest rows feel like an upper deck. The 2010 renovation added the brick sideline structures housing 83 luxury suites, club seats and the press box, and there are two large end zone videoboards; the bowl itself is open air with no roof.

Transport

Michigan runs a strict no bag policy: no purses, clear bags or fanny packs, only medically necessary items in a clear plastic bag through the exception gates at Gate 3 or Gate 9 West, with a bag check near Crisler Center. Parking fills the Blue, Brown and Maize lots plus the U-M golf course and downtown structures. Ann Arbor's TheRide runs a gameday FootballRide shuttle every twenty minutes or so that drops at Gate 2.
