Full detailAbout Carter-Finley Stadium
Carter-Finley Stadium, home of NC State Wolfpack football since 1966, has a seating capacity of 56,919. The Carter-Finley Stadium seating chart is a closed bowl: sideline sections have one- and two-digit numbers, with the lower sidelines at 1 to 8 (east, visitors' side) and 17 to 24 (west, NC State side) and the upper decks at 9 to 15 (east) and 25 to 31 (west), while the end zones use three-digit numbers, 110 to 127 in the lower end zones, 210 to 227 behind them and 319 to 326 in the upper north end under the video board. TowneBank Center rises above the west stands with suites, the Dail Club and the Wolves Den. For the best Carter-Finley Stadium seating, look at the lower west sideline near NC State's bench (around 19 to 22) and the matching midfield sections on the east side (around 4 and 5). Students fill the lower end zones and sections 6 to 8, and visiting fans are usually seated in sections 1, 9, 15, 25 and 31. For the 2026 season NC State changed the seat numbers on all bleacher seats, so check your ticket against the new numbering.
Carter-Finley Stadium, officially Wayne Day Family Field at Carter-Finley Stadium, opened on 8 October 1966 as Carter Stadium with double-tiered grandstands on the east and west sides; A.E. Finley's name was added in 1979. A long run of expansions turned it into a bowl: the south end was enclosed in 2001 in front of the Murphy Center football building, the four-level press and premium tower now called TowneBank Center opened on the west side in 2005, and the north end zone was enclosed in 2006 below the video board. A bigger north video board arrived in 2023, and new LED ribbon boards and a new field were added for 2026.

What is the Carter-Finley Stadium seating capacity?
The Carter-Finley Stadium seating capacity is about 56,919 seats. The number in use changes with the layout, so here is how each set-up works.
College football (NC State Wolfpack)
The standard layout, seating 56,919. NC State's bench is on the west side, below TowneBank Center, and the visitors' bench on the east side.
Concerts
Carter-Finley has hosted stadium concerts since 1979, including U2, The Rolling Stones and Beyoncé, and staged summer concerts again in 2026. Field seating is laid in front of a stage at one end; check the seating map for each show.
Other events

What are the seating levels at Carter-Finley Stadium?
Lower sidelines1-8 (east), 17-24 (west)
The main sideline seating, sunk into the bowl so you enter at concourse level and walk down. NC State's bench is in front of the west sections (around 19 to 21) and the visitors' in front of the east (around 4 to 6). Sections 7 and 8, and part of 6, are student seating.
Pros: The closest sideline views in the stadium; Wikipedia notes Carter-Finley has the smallest gap between the stands and the sidelines in the ACC.
Cons: Mostly bench seating, and sections run to about 46 lettered rows, so back rows are a long way from the field.
Upper sidelines9-15 (east), 25-31 (west)
The original double-tier grandstands above each sideline, with around 34 lettered rows in most sections and the entry tunnels at the front. Visiting fans are usually in 9, 15, 25 and 31.
Pros: A full view of the field from the side at lower prices than the lower bowl.
Cons: Entry is at the front, so seats in the double-letter rows mean a long climb.
Lower end zones110-127
The lower end-zone sections at both ends, designated as student seating for NC State games.
Pros: The loudest part of the stadium, with students standing for the whole game.
Cons: Expect to stand; one end has no view of the main video board, which sits above the north end.
200 Level end zones210-227
Sections rising behind the lower end-zone seats, the best-value place to find chairback seats.
Pros: Chairback seats and a good height behind the goal line.
Cons: End-on views, and the north-end sections struggle to see the main video board above and behind them.
Upper north end zone319-326
Small upper sections at the north end, directly beneath the main video board, with the entry aisle at the front.
Pros: Smaller sections that are easy to get in and out of.
Cons: Distant end-on views, and you rely on the smaller corner scoreboards because the main board is overhead.

How do Carter-Finley Stadium seat numbers work?
Carter-Finley uses short numbers on the sidelines and three-digit numbers in the end zones. Lower sideline sections are 1 to 8 on the east (visitors') side and 17 to 24 on the west (NC State) side; the upper decks are 9 to 15 (east) and 25 to 31 (west). In the end zones, 110 to 127 are the lower sections, 210 to 227 the sections behind them, and 319 to 326 the upper sections at the north end. Rows are lettered, with single letters at the front and double-letter rows behind, so a double-letter row is always towards the back. NC State renumbered the seats on every bleacher for the 2026 season, so seat numbers from earlier seasons may not match.
Reading a ticket: Section 27, Row K: the west upper deck on the NC State side. The entry tunnel is at the front of the upper deck, and K is a single-letter row, so you climb only part of the way up the section.
Carter-Finley Stadium floor plan for concerts
For concerts a stage is built at one end of the field with seating laid across the grass in front of it, and the bowl is sold around the other three sides. Layouts differ by tour, so check the Carter-Finley Stadium seating chart for your show.
The floor: Reserved field seats across the playing surface, with a general admission area near the stage at some shows.
The stage: At one end of the field; the end depends on the production.
The end facing the stage gives the straightest view, the sidelines see it side on, and seats beside or behind the stage may be restricted or not sold.
