About RheinEnergieStadion

The RheinEnergieStadion is 1. FC Köln's 49,698-capacity home, rebuilt in its current form in 2004 around four two-tier stands with a transparent roof over every seat. Each stand is split into a lower and upper tier of numbered blocks (for example W1–W8 and W11–W18 in the West Stand). The Südkurve standing end drives the famous Cologne atmosphere, the East Stand carries the main hospitality lounges and boxes, and the ground has hosted World Cup and European Championship matches.

The RheinEnergieStadion is Cologne's largest stadium and the home of 1. FC Köln, rebuilt between 2002 and 2004 on the site of the Müngersdorfer Stadion, which had stood there since 1923. Operated by the city's Kölner Sportstätten GmbH, it holds 49,698 spectators for domestic matches, 45,965 in all-seated international configuration and between 35,600 and 60,000 for concerts. Four separate two-tier stands enclose the pitch, with business lounges and VIP boxes running through the side stands and the red-and-white steel towers rising above the ground as local landmarks; the transparent roof keeps the steeply raked seats under cover. The south end, the Südkurve, is the spiritual home of the club's support, while the rebuilt stadium's quality brought it six matches at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and further fixtures at UEFA Euro 2024. The complex also houses the FC Köln museum.

Accessibility & companion seating

The stadium has 100 wheelchair and personal-assistant positions in the East Stand (Osttribüne), close to the pitch behind row 3, in blocks O2 to O7; personal assistants sit in normal seats in front of the wheelchair user. Extra-legroom seats are available in blocks O2 to O7, row 1, for a personal assistant seated alongside instead. Twenty positions for visually impaired visitors plus a personal assistant are in block O6, second row, with 20 pairs of commentary headphones distributed and collected on matchday. A special 'Ost-Mitte' entrance reduces waiting times for disabled spectators. Five step-free toilets, opened with a Euro key, are on the East Stand between blocks O4 and O5. Car park S1, close to the stadium, has 40 wheelchair parking spaces with a step-free path to the Ost-Mitte entrance. For FC Köln home games, wheelchair and visually-impaired tickets are booked via Eventbrite (since the 2018/19 season); for concerts and other events, tickets are bought only through the event organiser, with the stadium's Visitor Centre able to help make contact.

The KVB tram line 1 stops directly outside at 'Rheinenergie-Stadion' and connects into the Deutsche Bahn network at Bahnhof Weiden-West and Köln Messe/Deutz. Drivers leave the A1/A4 orbital motorway at the Kreuz Köln West interchange (exits Köln Bocklemünd, Köln Lövenich or Köln Weiden/Frechen from the A1; Köln Klettenberg or Frechen Nord from the A4), for around 7,500 car parking spaces around the stadium; about 3,200 bicycle stands are also provided.
